Salybia MP criticizes UWP’s “1,000 Patriot March”

MP for the Salybia constituency, Casius Darroux has criticized and raised a number of questions over a planned “1,000 Patriot March” by the United Workers Party (UWP) slated for later on Thursday.

Darroux, who was addressing Parliament in the ongoing Budget debate on Thursday, argued that instead of coming to Parliament and giving meaningful discussion to the debate, “we are hearing the members of the opposition on the radio stations, in the media, writing all fancy types of papers on the internet, they are planning a 1,000-man march.”

According to him a few months ago the UWP demonstrated and damaged government property by blocking roads in Salisbury and recently dumped bananas in Marigot.

He said he has 11 questions for the UWP on the march.

“Madam Speaker, the 11 questions I am going to ask is what is this march about? What is it? Is it because there is a tax free budget?” Darroux asked. “Are they marching, Madam Speaker, because this government is giving $10-million to farmers at 3 percent interest rate? Are they marching, Madam Speaker, because this government is giving $15-million to the hotels for the tourism industry? Is this a march because this government is giving 50 percent increase to the senior citizens of this country? Is this a march because of this government going into renewable energy by developing the geothermal plant?”

He further asked, “Is this a march because this government is giving a pilot health insurance scheme for our mothers and children who are the most vulnerable? Madam Speaker is this march because of the $23-million that we are going to spend on feeder roads? Is it a march because of the $279-million raised from the CBI Programme? Is it a march because we have to use more of our eco-friendly products? Is it because of an establishment of a vulnerability risk and resilient fund set up by this government?”

Darroux made it clear that if these questions are the reasons why the opposition are going to march, he is also prepared to march.

“Because if we are prepared to march for this, Madam Speaker, I will be marching this afternoon and all of us will be marching but if it is to march to cause chaos in this country all of us, Madam Speaker, should take a stance and condemn it…,” he stated.

Leader of the UWP, Lennox Linton had earlier said the march was one for jobs, for justice in Dominica, improvement in the quality of life, a reduction in the cost of living, for electoral reform among other issues the public are faced with.

The event is expected to place at the Lindo Park in Goodwill from 4:30 pm.

It is unfortunate that Mr. Cassius Darroux as a parliamentary representative and the Minister of Kalinago Affairs keep following the direction of his colleagues by criticizing positive contributions highlighted and brought forward by the opposition, instead of analyzing and taking the positive from the message. you should realize that all the answers do not lie in the Labour Party camp,
The Carib Act that you use to Change the name from Carib to kalinago, have you realized that it is excluded from the Constitution and that affects you, your family, your people and you as a parliamentarian need to do something about it,
have you realized that your very P M hijacked us$10 million dollars from your people and you never uttered one single word about it.
From that same amount he promised 1 million then 1.5 million to the public servants of the kalinago territory and after 8 years not one cent has been made available, but gradually he is offering them undercover help to build, while he…

Having outlined the few instances of concern as there are many more my most disturbing moment came when the invited guest gave the PM a standing ovation at the end. I was totally dumb founded to see people who know better, who know of the poor and stagnated state of our econmy, who are fully aware of our consistent last position in economic performance among the OECS ; who are fully aware of the lack of transparency, accountability, good governance and the lack of prudent and fiscal discipline in government and of the absence of consultation and inclusiveness; also of the nepotism, cronyism and victimization, of the international scandals yet to be addressed. To know all that and to still afford a standing ovation reduced in my mind the men I once knew to little boys. The opposition asked some burning questions and made some sound recommendations which unfortunately for the most part was responded to by the government side with personal attacks. What travesty to Dominica

The opposition did the only thing they do best , they walked out of parliament encore.

Would you hire anyone who you know willing walks off the job whenever they want. Someone who cannot perform under pressure and does anything but the job they are hired to do?

Someone please tell the UWP that we the voters are their employer.

The UWP it is clear to see knows nothing of the constitution because they are unaware of the role or not know what is the difference between opposition and government as far as this poster can see.

On budget day the opposition leader leads a match instead of doing what he was elected to do and where most Dominicans believed listening to the budget was of more importance to us than following someone who cannot do anything for their future, the choice was easy to make. The. Budget and the various responses and contributions were in our best interest.

At review time we will tell you exactly what we think of your performance.

so before the marchs Mr. Darroux did not have anything to say in Parliament -debate the budget and leave Linton alone.

Mr Daroux there are so many other pressing matters to discuss. Mr palrep, why wasn’t the Marigot Hospital Hospital which serves part of the kalinago constituency mentioned ? These are the issues that needs to be addressed. Why is it that you have said absolutely nothing about the displacement of the KT bus stop in roseau? Come on Mr Palrep. Our roads need immediate repair, and why is it that you Mr Palrep have so many people involved in the nternal affairs of the Kalinago people? Mr palrep you need to stand proudly and represent your people better.

Life and death I am satisfied with your point however gracefulandwiseliving4elohim has not realized that honorable Linton was including them as the people of Dominica

Honorable skirt does not have all thee answers neither do the remaining members of his government. Hon Linton cant have all the bad ideas that a page can’t be learnt from his book. It’s only pride and arrogance that exists in the minds of the ministers of the ruling government.

Casino is singing for his supper because he is afraid of being kicked out and the speaker of the house cannot tell him to shut up because he is trying to put a tick on hon skirt plate. Dominica is plagued with hardship that that a weekly wage is 125.00 and the weekly debt is 575.00

The CBI program racked 279 million. I cannot see 10 new businesses employing the people of Dominica much more for at least 1000 new businesses that the money would have created I. E. 279000000 divide by 175000 equal 1594. This the reason for the March…

Why would the same Gov’nt spend 18 million of our money to build a bridge and the same bridge is built by bajans?
Why would the same Gov’nt not build a hospital in marigot to serve your territory, and you?
While you increase your NEP program by 50% playing politics, is that sustainable? I do hope you are following the news in Venezuela? Dominica seems soooo close!
Finally why would this same Gov’nt not engage its citizens into meaningful projects? Stop giving the bread crumbs!

No love lost. Pay no mind to those who give thumbs down. They are the ones who deserve thumbs down. I have noted those who do not support UWP will get them on this Website which appears to be a pro UWP.
I endorse your comment. I have been accessing DNO for a few years and have noted their comments. From what I have read about Linton and his attitude, there is no way I could support such a Party and with Linton, troublemaker at the helm.
If D/cans ever elect that man as PM, woe to them. They will be courting trouble and misery.
Take it from me. My words are never stated in vain. I am on the right side of love, peace and justice. I know there are many D/cans who are on the same side as you, in Dominica and abroad.
God wants a happy and peaceful Dominica! It will not be found in Linton and his disturbing and disrupting tactics.
Watch out! One day I may establish my own fair, Website. I do think D/ca needs one. Nonsensical comments will be prohibited.

Listening to the budget for the 2015/2016 fiscal year i am confident that this budget seems to bring hope to the citizenry. I am in support of Cascius Darroux 11 question. After listening to the budget i was confused as to what the intentions of the leader of the opposition. Lets face it, why would one want to apply weedicide his plot of Vetivey when a company has indicated that its gonna start processing the plant to produce products for fragrance? I hope you get my drift.

I saw a crowd of about 300 persons attended the 1000 Man Match. I believe that if that cause was justified persons would have shown much more interest. I am of the view that the UWP has there pool of followers however has continued to fail in their desperate appeal to move the masses.

The nation continue to watch as the demagogue leader Lennox Donald Trump Linton continue singing from the same hymn sheet of similar lyrics and melody hence failing to empress the judges.

It’s amazing out of 18 Ministers and 5 senators on the government side not one can find any serious way to challenge their government on issues of governance or to agree to some of the very pertinent points coming from the opposition. On the contrary the opposition on occasion has pointed to aspects in the
budget they agree with however all they are asking is there be more inclusion, better prioritization , more transparency and accountability given all that is happening around us. Compare what is happening in the US campaign not all democrats agree with Clinton or all Republicans agree with Trump yet still they remain as members of their respective parties. Down here I do not see this happening especially with the government’s side. The UWP seem more open to decent and democracy in its ranks than the DLP. The Joshua independent mindedness is an example. The DLP on the other hand seem not to have any independent objective and clear thinkers. They simply tow the party line. Sad

Lennox Linton is a troublemaker. Cease stirring up trouble in Dominica. Does this man know what he is doing?
From what I read especially on DNO, I do think that the PM is doing an excellent job. What more do this opposition want him to do? Do they think they could do better?
Linton harbors a hatred for the PM. This is projected in his attitude and this match.
Lennox, get with it. You have never once supported the PM; never satisfied with what he has done and plans to do. Are you really of the opinion that the PM is not exercising his elected duties satisfactorily? You have a severe problem. Concentrate on helping the people of Marigot who, through James, voted for you which caused you to be in Parliament.

Give me a break. Let the people march peacefully against the injustices in DA. What is the problem with a peaceful march? Soon I will be organising a march for all residents of Rose Street and surrounding streets to protest the deplorable condition of Rose Street for past 10 years. Gov’t sends workers to fix 50 ft of road directly in front 1 residence while there are large potholes some deep enough to bathe a small child in other areas. How can any gov’t with a good conscience go to homes of people of Soufriere asking them to give them a list of what they WANT in order to buy votes while the taxpayers of Rose Street and surrounding streets can’t get a basic road that they NEED to go about their lives comfortably.

This is the worst and most boring parliament in the world. The members on the government side can hardly speak properly English, or be fluent. Poor examples of speaking in public.
This young parl rep from Kalinago territory should be asham of himself for boasting about nothing special in his constituency.
Imagine he is making a big show about 70,000 dollars for furniture enterprise. Then he went on the question the opposition March.. But the speaker never told him about stickin to the budget.

I’m appalled at how seemingly convinced the members on the government side are, that the state of affairs in Dominica is where it should be after 16 years of this administration. Now they fixing feeder roads when Agriculture is fragmented and farmers on their own..
Why is it necessary for the government to be “giving” so much? Is it because they have created such a “need” over the last 16 years?
I wish that the ppl of Dominica could be empowered to do something for themselves instead of waiting to receive “so much” that the Government has to give, perpetuating the cycle of dependence.
Dominicans need real sustainable Jobs. Jobs in higher paying industries, like manufacturing and technical services..over 1000 employed in the NEP but the vast majority remains at levels requiring low skill or training. The gov’t needs to get serious about attracting the right kind of foreign investments to employ Dominicans with higher education skill sets..
