Simeon Albert back in

Simeon Albert

Chairman of the Canefield Urban Council Simeon Albert has been voted back in – though he will not be considered chairman until the necessary procedures are conducted.

The council held its general elections yesterday in which four members including Albert were elected out of nine candidates.

At present, there is a tie between candidates Evander Joseph and Joyce Dupuis. A recount is currently being conducted to decide who will fill the fifth spot on council’s management team.

Five persons are required to run the affairs of the council.

The possibility of the election was questioned by many following reports that Michael Coipel, a candidate who had been disqualified, had allegedly filed an injunction to prevent the proceedings.

More details on this matter later.

Stop shouting! Cool down and be respectful! Lower case please! This is computer etiquette. Furthermore it is difficult to read what we could call “block/capital letters”.

@naturelover: You are in the dark and trying to defend what you do not know about. It’s better to shut up. Some things are better left unsaid so what you do not know, stay out of it. Go read some news paper or an educational book

Congratulations to all those who were elected. It’s however time to put an end to partisan campaign in local government elections. I do hope the team, it appeears with different political persuasions, will put aside to work for the benefit of the Canefield community. I do hope that you elect from among your team of elected and nominated councilors a Chairman who can best represent the interest of the people of the Canefield community.

For the education of the public. The Canefield Urban Council has a Chairperson and not a Mayor. Only the Chairperson of a Town or City has the designation/Title of Mayor. Please check the Laws of Dominica on that…

Canefield Urban Council elections seem to be second place only to national elections nowadays. What is it about Canefield? Is it because Canefield has the only Urban Council on island? I don’t think so! Before the advent of Simeon, elections for the Council was a very low-keyed event. But what goes on nowadays seems more like politicising a local government activity. A win for Simeon is taken as a plus for the ruling Labour Party since Simeon makes no bones about his allegiance to the Skerrit government. A loss is seen as a blow for Labour popularity in Canefield. Please do not consider me one-sided if I say that renewed efforts at unseating Simeon may have much wider origin than governing the municipality of Canefield. It seems that opposition to Simeon may not be targeted at Simeon but the ruling Party. Supposing I am correct, I wish the Labour government to diagnose the discontent of Canefield residents and prescribe some solutions.
For Simeon, this should be seen as a call from the community for him to balance his personal political persuasion in such a way that he is seen to be true to his municipal calling first, i.e. before his partisan calling.

@Dominica gurl: It has become extremely mind- boggling to understand what influences the citizens of Dominica. The community did not need an SUV. Is not that people of the Canefield community need. The chairman himself indicated to the public that he was in possession of the vehicle 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Which other council in Dominica and its chairman has that luxury and possesses council transport 24/7, with the excuse that he works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? No other chairman in no other council in Dominica has that luxury. Prove me wrong. I dare anybody could prove me wrong. A few Council members agreed to that travesty and misuse of Council’s property for personal use.

Many Canefield citizens are still saying that’s OK. How many and which community projects or concerns are dealt with at nights? Shouldn’t that Council’s property be parked after 4,5 or 6 p.m. by the office? But in this country, Nothing wrong is wrong. It is the right things done that are wrong. One of those good days people you will get up with a country enveloped in a heap of filth and to clean that filth would be too much to handle. Through Govt. appointment of its persons, who were not candidates in the Council election, that former chairman could still end up being chairman. Democracy?

people must learn to be positive and give a man his flowers while he is alive and they must learn to spell properly because the world is reading there comments, congatulations to those who was elected and those who did not , please be good and helpful to the elected members they represent you .

The results of the election speaks volume. If Mr. Albert had done enough for the community I think he would have been # 1 or 2, not 3 and the results show. Never before have I seen so much bad road and grass. The local government should examine the days under Freedom reign and see that there was little political interference. The coulcils should be indepenent of any and all political party. I wish Ms. James and Mr. Powell all the best and when they get there to make the development of the community their first priority.

Then Canefield will get to the next level, whatever that is.

i dont back this regime but honestly majority of dominicans are sympathic to DLP and it make sound hard but unless the oppostions forces can get something mobilzed either in or outside to remove this regime….honestly i can see DLP ruling DA for another 20 years! thats a fact!
