Third session of People’s Parliament set for next Tuesday

Hector John is the elected parliamentary representative for the Salisbury constituency

PRESS RELEASE: The Movement to Restore Democracy (MRD) and the Dominica Citizen’s Forum invites the general public to attend Dominica’s third “Peoples Parliament”, which will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 6:30pm at the Salisbury Government School.

The Peoples Parliament is an ongoing public forum that facilitates public discussions by a range of voices on national issues. It also performs the important function of serving as a public platform for opposition Parliamentarians, who are boycotting the House of Assembly, to discuss the issues of the day with the Dominican public.

This session of the Peoples Parliament will feature a special presentation by a prominent Dominican physician on the state of “health” in Dominica. This presentation will be extremely timely in light of Government’s recent issuance of a permit to establish an asphalt plant on the Layou River and their deliberations on other initiatives that may be detrimental to public health.

There will also be two important presentations on economic issues. One presentation will be a road map on the revitalization of the national economy. The other will focus on local economic issues around the Salisbury constituency. As usual, a major part of the program will be deliberations on issues of the day by duly elected opposition Members of Parliament. The parliamentarians will update the public on ongoing matters pertaining to electoral corruption and the abuse of public office. The public will be encouraged to share their opinion on these issues.

The first and second sessions of the People’s Parliament, which were held in Roseau South and Marigot were interactive, lively and informative. Both sessions were well attended with standing room only, so attendees are encouraged to be on time.

The Movement to Restore Democracy and the Dominica Citizens Forum are civil society committees which are dedicated to the promotion of democracy, the rule of law and other good governing practices. The opposition members of parliament are engaged in a boycott of parliament to register their displeasure with the unlawful manipulation of the electoral process which resulted in an overwhelming Dominica Labor Party victory in the December 18, 2009 general election. The opposition parliamentarians intend to maintain the boycott until new elections are called with adequate provisions in place to ensure that the new elections are free and fair. The Peoples Parliament will be held at different locations around the island from time to time to keep the people informed.

People like Ron Green Provost and James should take a political retirement and let John stirve in the days coming a head of him, he is young and have plenty to offer. We all have to get old one day, so do not be jeolous of John that heis young. Please Please Please Old Men you had you time. Let My john go to the house and do his duty to the people who put him there.

I am a hard core labourite but I am also a young, highly educated and succesful individual and my advice to Mr. John is “don’t allow Ron, Prevost and Eddoe to destroy your life / future”!!! Those guys have lived their lives. They are politically irrelevant!!! See yourself as the future of the opposition.Take heed.

See us crying on each others party. A set of greedy guys longing to stay in power. Increasing their salary almost 100% . Their bread well buttered. Our bread with water.

We are employing those greedy politians. They are craving for the job. Things must be sweet.

Yet still, they are telling us things are bad. They cann’t do nothing much!

THE RED, THE BLUE AND THE GREEN.

You all were voted by the people and for the people and the place you all have to go is in the HOUSE of parliament to represent them, those in favour, I, the I’s have it!

To political watcher have you ever ask yourself what MARIGOT people are all about we are not the type of folks that stand for nonsense the election is over the PM and DLP won, but that is not what is at stake our CONSTITUTION and our DEMOCRACY those are the issues so get with it

  7. April 14, 2010

Hector John, do not be misled by the disgruntled few and make good your contract with your constituency. The kangaroo parliament that your party has been promoting is nothing more than moot exhibition of political impotence.
But you are young. “There is a tide in the affairs of men……” that favors positioning yourself to introduce new initiatives instead of wallowing in the mud of discontent. I challenge you to get to the house of assembly and make the contribution that is expected of you.

Hey Spaggs you are my cousin and I love you man but I honestly don’t think that you are giving Salisbury, Morne Rachette and Coulibistri proper representation bro. To be fair, I don’t even mind Salisbury not wanting the Labour party, simply because personally I don’t like the idea of a one party state, but if I was living back in Dominica I would have had no choice but to vote for them because so far they have shown us progress. Regardless, you have a solemn duty to fulfill on behalf of the people of this territory and I think that it would be in the best interest of us all (you included) if you executed your duties to the best of your ability. You need now to put aside grudges and the disappointment of the party loosing the election, and put your back to the wheel because with your leadership Salisbury could have good things in store for it. I know that you are young, vibrant and intelligent and in light of this you must by now have figured out that the stance which you and your comrades have taken is tantamount to flagging a dead horse.

… ask RON and EDDISON why were they campaining in these islands? they are too bias, why Dominicans need VISA to go to Canada? who sold DOMINICA Passports to CHINESE?

    ….

The DLP is there to stay and even though if United Wicked People win 5 seats, they still will not govern Dominica. Dominica Labour Party is here to stay.

A BUNCH OF OLD MEN …AFRAID OF A YOUNG ENRGETIC AND VIBRANT MAN

SKERRITT …… THE PM FOR DOMINICA, AS A YOUNG MAN, I’M PROUD OF HIM.

    Great move.

    Keep them following…Follow the leader…
He won his seat in spite of the irregularities/ voter importation/ lack of access to the media/ internet jamming/ Virus attack on this site/ cell phone jamming/ internet jamming/ war ship intimidation/ voter list longer than number of voters…
    That is true leadership.
And yes willing to hold yet another peoples parliament without being paid.

    We want to hear about:
    1. Chavez nuclear program http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKTRE63115A20100402
(“Chavez’s government is turning to Iran and Russia for help to develop nuclear energy.”….Chavez said Moscow and Caracas would strengthen security ties to “continue increasing Venezuela’s defense capability” and move ahead with cooperation on nuclear energy.

    2. How French man can get Colas contract to displace the only Dominican colas workers
    3. why d dpp not arresting those who have broken the oaths act, Anti Dual citizenship parliamentarian law, treason act, declaration of campaign funds act, illegal appointment of police commissioner…
    4. Is it safe for us fishers to return to sea? or are we going to continue to disappear or be riddled with bullets.
    5. Has the French agent stopped the Coast guard from protecting our resources from being taken by the Pirates?
    6. Why the Venezuelans could boldly say in courts that they have been fishing here for the past 10 yrs.
    7. What kind of “fish” they fishing for?
    8. We want one of the elected Dominicans opposition to go to the meeting in Barbados to hear what the US Defense Secretary has to say on his visit Caribbean
    9. We want you to continue to serve the nation by having constructive dialogue with only those Dominicans in the DLP who got genuine votes. Its time for them to stop this partisan nonsense and take back the nation from those with foreign allegiance.

Yes since the Peoples parliament is carried live and the mock parliament is not, we need all the secrets brought out for us to hear/ listen and be enlightened…
We certainly don’t want the secretive governance like CUBA, China, Venezuela ….

What a waste of time… these Rum Shop Parliaments are an embarrassment to Dominica. The UWP lost the elections fare and square, but instead of taking it like men and maintaining some dignity they just crying and fussing like babies. They are old tired men…

Democracy is alive and well in Dominica, just asks the thousands that voted in the General Elections. No one was denied their right to vote as they saw fit. Just because you loose isn’t a reason to imply the system didn’t work… it’s just the people didn’t want you or your party!

  13. April 14, 2010

    Spaggs,
you are my friend long befor you got into active politics, dont you believe that you are foming the fool with yourself, and that you should move on as a states man and do the work of the people sir?

    Wow!
Now that the third meeting of the real parliament has been announced we hear immediatley about the People’s Parliament. Ready, steady and go. We need politicians with the testicular fortitued who will stand up to Skerrit – irrespective of the consequences. So April 29 is near at hand and we go see what happens to the elected MPs from Roseau Marigot and Salisbury. Will they stand up and be counted or or will they find some lame excuse to slide back in, like dogs with a cut/damaged tail, We really go see
