Too little, too late: Green criticizes PM’s move to construct offices for opposition’s use

Opposition Leader Ron Green

Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) Ron Green says Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit’s plan to establish an office for the leader of the opposition is long overdue.

At his swearing-in ceremony, following the December 18 general elections, the prime minister expressed his view that the leader of the opposition should have an office to work from.

“It’s something that has been pending for the longest time and to the extent that he has stolen an election and is now saying that, as far as I consider it is merely talk… after an election to soothe and calm those that are outraged.”

Prime Minister Skerrit said he is also considering the establishment of constituency offices for parliamentary representatives, explaining that constituents who live in rural communities have to travel to town to meet with their parliamentary representatives.

Green said his party has been calling for resources from the Roosevelt Skerrit-led administration for a long time now.

“For the longest time we have advocated and called for resources to be put in the hands of the opposition, and he has refused. He has been there for nine years; his government and his party and they have refused… it is something we see as a necessary component of the democracy that we are trying to bring,” he explained.

He regards Skerrit’s pronouncement as too little too late, adding “for him to come now after what has happened and say he’s going to do this and going to do that, I frankly take that as irrelevant and nonsense worthy.”

When asked whether the opposition would utilize such an office if there was no boycott of parliament, Green said all actions taken by his party will be as a result of that straightforward commitment.

    Mr Green,

This is why UWP lost so badly.

Stop thinking about self and Party.

Start thinking about the future and Dominica.

Going forward, this is a good thing.

Mr. Ron the office the PM is suggesting is for the opposition to at least have a chance in the next election 2015, because it was very clear that you guys were not prepared, not even with an office for your supporters to come to you and relate what their concerns were, it is to late now because the people has spoken, and all that talk of people coming to vote, if its true they were not a majority of the population and the mojority of the population voted labour full force, grow up , politics is not telling tails and trying to undermine others it takes work and constant relating with the people, i can’t beleive that you and the uwp dont have an office in 2010 come on and you really want someone to take you guys seriously.

    Balizier La Plaine,

Mr. Green was in government and he did nothing for La Plaine. He is not even the leader of the opposition why is he belly-aching. He should gladly accept his senatorship and make way for Sam Raphael as leader of the opposition! It was always known his non-action and squeaky clean facade would get the better of him someday. December 18th was that day. You can fool some people sometime but you cannot fool all teh people all the time! Go Petter, Go!

This guys is a joke. The UWP did not create an office for the Opposition from 1995-2000…and Rosie did not ask for it either, nor the Charlo or Mamo.

    These guy is an…..
Their approach has been to deny, attack and confuse….

    Dominicans see thru this already.

They ask for elections, got caught with their pants down and now they crying…..

A man who did not win his seat……is demanding elections in two years.

    Hey Mr Green:

    1. Dis-associate yourself with Groovey Bat and Lennox Linton-They do not contest elections…..

    2. Demand that Eddison resign and move ………

3 .When you say corruption, Dominicans see roads being built contruction…etc….they see tangible items of development.

600 people did not change the election, your party is circling the drain.

  14. January 7, 2010

If u think it’s a story I CAN BACK THAT UP! We had the better game plan, the better coach, the better team as for your team u all were like security guards who fell asleep on their watch so check this out u think a BLOWN OUT GAME WAS A STOLEN GAME the PM should hold back the office untill D’A has an opposition leader who can make sensible critisism. What Mr Ron Green needs is a SCHOLARSHIP to study GAME for the next 5yrs to see if he can win back the laplaine seat untill then do us a favor BACK OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

……..”TOO LITTLE TOO LATE” these were Eddies words when the PM made the MOU with China available to him. He had been asking for so long and when they get it they vex. And this my friend is the biggest problem with workers. They cannot say thanks. They ENGRAS. Now God does not like engras people. Remember when he healed the 10 lepers. One ONLY went to say thank you. Jesus could have said you are welcome go in peacce. BUT NO> HE WAS HURT AND HE ASKED FOR THE NINE OTHERS. RON learn to say thanks when you get something, like the bus fare the pm paying for all the children.WORKERS TOO. REmember you had ask for subsidy . BUT THE BLESSED AND HARD WORKING PM PAID IT IN FULL> GOD BLESS SKERRIT> GOD BLESS DA.

Some of you who makes such negative and nasty comment about Mr. Green do not have the courage, the moral and the fortitude to ask the populace for their vote. Means your personnel defeat would be soooooooooooooooooooooo humiliating. All you does is feed on others success and be parasites. If you all are so honest with yourselves you stop such remarks. And that APPLIES to all parties. You know Ron is stil an icon, Icon to who you are? Ask yourselves that question. Icon of hatred yes. Ask yourselves another question, Is it a UWPite that …..How divisive is it ?????????????

‘ BALANCE’ I find it outrageous for you to say Mr. JAMES HAS MARIGOT PEOPLE LIVING IN POVERTY AND THAT’S WHY WE ARE NOT GETTING ANYWHERE. Next time you have some spare time go to MARIGOT look around ask some question and tell me if you find MARIGOTIANS LIVING IN POVERTY. ARE YOU FOR REAL MAN.. Check out our surroundings full of FOOD AND WATER THE BASIC NEEDS. If you find MARIGOT is not getting anywhere take that up with your PM. Do you have any idea what the STARS ON OUR FLAG SYMBOLIZE? Allow me to EDUCATE YOU.

IT SYMBOLIZES HOPE AND EQUALITY FOR THE 10 PARISHES NOT JUST A FEW. THE UNFORTUNATE THING IS THAT PEOPLE LIKE YOU SEE MARIGOT NOT BEING IN ANY OF THE PARISHES. AM WONDERING IF YOU KNOW WHICH PARISH MARIGOT FALLS UNDER AND THE HISTORY OF THAT PARISH. AT THE END OF THE DAY WE ARE ALL DOMINICANS OUR NATIONALITY hasn’t CHANGE. Love to you from a MARIGOTIAN IN THE DIASOPRA. PEACE AND GOD’S BLESSINGS.

What does the UWP really seek to accomplish?

As I have said many times before, I see the need for electoral reform and ID cards, BUT the UWP has NO ONE but itself to blame for its loss. They ran a disorganized campaign which they set off with allegations from early 2009 till December 18. And they were unable after all those months, including the 9 years in opposition to prepare a plan for the country, which they would have run in the same disorganized manner the campaign was run.

It is time for the UWP to sit together, iron out their issues and give to DOMINICA and DOMINICANS the quality of representation that is due. Their way of handling politics is disgraceful, mediocre, irresponsible and unacceptable. Because, as politicians in whom we entrust the government and affairs of our country, they are not doing justice to anyone of us Dominicans.

And this has to stop! So Mr. Green, I like you a lot, but put your darn act together!

  21. January 7, 2010

I would just like to tell Mr. Green that the Hon, Micheal Douglas was a member of the Oppostion during the time of the Eugenia Government, He was not the leader of the Opposition and he had an office n Portsmouth where he served the people of Dominica and it was not funded by the government. That office served the people of Dominca and not only the people of Portsmoth. The Prime Minister should not have to tell the Opposition that they need to build or rather have an office to serve their constituents and also the members or rather Parliamentarians should know in order to serve their constituents they should have an office where the will be able to serve their constituents in a much beetter mannae.
Mr. Green stop complaining and the role of the opposition is not only to oppose for the name sake. Accept defeat gracefully and move on. To all the negative thinkers, Dominica is on the right track and let us work to build Dominica. This is the 20th century not the time of PJ or Eugenia time. Always bare in mind that Portsmouth already had a constituency office funded by th late Hon. Micheal Douglas.

You had your time, give others a break. When you should have spoken, you were moomoo and let Eddie speak out over you. You should be silent and let the elected members air their views now. But it seems all of them are still confused and moomoo. Let Skerrit lead the way.

I have a major problem with the opposition in Dominica. They sit out this function and that function and everything they want.
However, what is especially galling is they stay away from National Ceremonies like independence day celebration etc.

My worthy Dominicans these national ceremonies are not Labour or UWP or Freedom. They are the Nations. It is the heights of disrespect for the people of Dominica, not least of all your constituencies for the opposition to simply boycott National Ceremonies with impunity. You talk about Skerritt wants to set up a dictatorship in Dominica but by boycotting, and not doing your job the people voted you to do, you are both encouraging and endorsing him.

We are forgetting that the opposition is part of the Governing body in the country. The Legislature. There is this nasty feeling that since I am not the ruling party I am vex and abstaining. Stop that little boy attitude and get on with doing your damn job.

May I emphasise that the oppositions job is even more important, since they are the ones to police the Government and protect Dominicans . You were elected to do a job so get off your duff and get to work.

    Great work Hon. PM.

I know you realise by now that Ron Green political philosophy is closer to yours than Edison James. He secretly admires with mixed envy your accomplishments, charisma but more than anything else your foreign policy. He is confounded that you took the China and venezuela risks with political impunity.

You would do well to treat him well. As Abraham Lincoln said in victory,” goodwill to all and malice towards none”. Offcourse his comments above is only political grandstanding for his audience, pay that no mind.

I am impress with disbursing your cabinet port folios. Your criteria was mixed but emphasised the constituency. Great! People were given portfolios that would allow them to work in their constituency. Timothy the Hospital to be built. Dr. Darroux fisheries, Fond St. jean, Ian Tourism etc.

Offcourse Pepper has been campaigning for Education so long and hard, you could’t not give it to him.
Anyway so far so good. Give Allo lots of visibility, we want Roseau Central. Johnno I dare say should be with you not Blackmore, and Stephenson will need close supervision to perform.

And please watch everybody especially those who believe Labour synonymous with their family name. Pay close attention to the Southern Alliance its base is restless. God bless my friend God bless.

    January 7, 2010

So you mean to tell me, them workers supporters so shame and bias they have no comment to make on this topic but attack a persons simple spelling error? This is not school and nobody’s writing an essay. Whether lionpaw said matches, marches, or matchez…allu know what he means and that is a non issue. The issue at hand is Ron Green’s none sense and the only reason you focusing on a little slip of the finger in a simple spelling error is because u are afraid to actually discuss the issue at hand. Ron Green is an embarrassment to Dominicans, those who voted for him and those who did not. End of story.

Frankly, I believe that Mr. Green had nothing to say. It’s a fact that every time he ask for something, when ever he gets it, it’s always too late or not good at all. (that’s the man)
    1. he asked for IPO, when he got it, it was useless.
    2. he called for elections, then when the PM gave the date, he Ron said that the timing was not fair and illegal.
    3. he said that the public finance committee was anticipating information which he Ron and others could use to damage the PM, and up until now, the results of the investigation which he carried out cannot be released to the public. Mr. Green, this Government has put the education of Dominicans as priority and it’s really working. We have become an intelligent people and we know now when people like you are running short of ideas.

To state it’s comical and sad:( The state in which of Dominica has found herself or has become) is to put it mildly
The opposition screwed -up colossally. It is an accepted fact they were ill-equipped hence got their combined butts wopped by an organized pirate incombant party. That having been said, clear and present danger for DA is irrefutable. It sequencial for all and sundry apart from those blind and indenial that the government of Roosevelt (D) Skerrit is is way passed …. to the next level. It is ironic, but Mr Green supposed to be the one time… in his earlier days. However, it is the RDS regime who’s considering the building of offices for pal reps in every constiutuency:explaining that constituents who live in rural communities have to travel to town to meet with their pal reps. I must confess this is more than amusing and copy cat psychology. That’s the best the pseudo- psychologist P.M has to offer? lol!
This comes straight from the communists MO. … new found friends at home and abroad. He has a former/cafeteria commie supporting him now ,a cross -over from the uwp, the one who defected with the new Minister of Health.
Someone claimed that 61 % voted for the infiltated- DLP, rejecting the UWP, DFP etc in a post querring Ambrose’s inclusion in the newly repeat election of the I-DLP attempting to justify it.. Therein is the essence of my opening remarks. D/cans ( most)got the Gov’t they deserve (the 61% )that is those who accept corruption as the next level. Development or corruption which comes first?
The infiltrate-DLP has convinced the 61% they are compartible.

Hon. Ron Green, oh no you are Mr. Green no longer the Parl Rep. You lost the the election fair and square so please focus on the participating in the general development of Dominica, do the humble thing and concede. Also please thank The Pm for making you realize the ‘components of democracy” though the real action of DLP. Send the UWP parl reps to parliment and make his pronouncement “relevant and worthy” because it benefits the people of Dominica through effective opposition particpation in parliment- you can hold him accountable. Since you were absent from parliment so often we cannot recall your claim that “For the longest time we(UWP) have advocated and called for resources to be put in the hands of the opposition, and he has refused. Y’all need to stop being so ignorant and fast at critising Mr.Green.What the man is saying there does makes some sense. Maybe the PM should not have broadcast it as he did because it sounds hypocritical;and it should not take 10 years to decide on something like that.

MR.Green i know you are angry but remember your party once held power and never in your fifteen years as palrep you ever kept an office in your constituency.Your words hold no power. The PM doesn’t need your approval for anything so please don’t waste whatever is left of your pride. You lost the election because you was an inefficient palrep.

Lion Paw, before you dis, check your spelling!

In the present context, the proper word is ‘MARCHES’ . Unless you want to light dominica on fire with your ‘matches. Green has a good point.

Why must you speak anyway? Wasn’t your party also in office at some point in time? Did you provide the opposition parties of the day with such resources. Such an office will assist with the rebuilding of Mr. James’ party.

Happy New Year Mr. Green!! AA. You looking a little better in that picture.

You look a lot more rested after the last election.

Please note that nothing is never too late as long as you have life and health.

You have to remember in 1995 while you all were doing things toopatu you all never gave the opposition any resources and things were good then!

If that is not true then is lie you all were lying!!
