US-based Scotts Head businessman gives thumbs down to parl rep

Jeff Bellot aims to be Parliamentary representative for Soufriere in the future
Jeff Bellot aims to be Parliamentary representative for Soufriere in the future

The Parliamentary Representative(PR) for the Soufriere constituency Sam Martin has been given the thumbs down by a US-based, Scotts Head native, for what he describes as Martin’s non-performance in that community.

Businessman, Jeff Bellot, told DNO recently, after donating some 3,000 educational books to the Soufriere Primary School, that he is disappointed and called it a sad day for the people.

“I contacted the parl rep on several occasions to assist with the books to the Soufriere school. He never got back to me. I even called on a popular program called the Talking Point and talked about the issues hoping to get help but up to this date, nothing,” Bellot said, adding, “Today I would like to make public my disappointment and concern with the PR (parliamentary representative) in the Soufriere Constituency. A lot of people have been talking and are afraid to make things public, but I would like to address these issues because I feel like I am the messenger for the people,” he said.

He said Martin did not attend the function and made it clear to him that he, Martin, did not want to be involved.

Bellot who has aspirations of representing the people of the Soufriere constituency in Parliament, said he has been a great contributor to the communities of Soufriere, Scotts Head and Gallion and even Pointe Mitchel, and he is always trying to find new ways to improve his community and country.

He pointed out that he had had good relations with the former Parliamentary representative but “unfortunately today, our PR, I don’t know, what is he thinking, but not very responsible in communicating and that’s why we have these issues”.

He mentioned pointed to his involvement in efforts to resolve a water shortage problem in Scotts Head by “putting pressure on DOWASCO” and said his attempts to obtain about 20,000-30,000 used trash cans and because of the laissez-faire attitude of Martin who did not show interest, the cans were lost to Haiti and Nicaragua.

He said Martin is a clear example of a parliamentary representative that “should not be re-elected, because he has failed the people, and it was time to let their displeasure heard.”

Bellot gave the assurance that “if I ever represent the people in the Soufriere constituency, I will guarantee the people of projects that we wouldn’t even have to get funding from the government to do. We can do ourselves.” Two such projects which he says he would tackle are the “Brooklyn” playing field that’s abandoned and the conversion of the Scotts Head government school which has been shut for sometime into a technical school.

He also aims to revive the now stagnant Freedom party and contest the Soufriere seat but did not say how soon he intends to do so.

When DNO contacted the Soufriere Constituency Parliamentary Representative, Sam Martin for comment, his response was:  “I have no comments on the matter.”

I am not a politician and I don’t favor one party over another as long as there is progress am ok, but what happen to those days when people do good just for doing good sake? I would like to know? today everybody is looking for something in return, If your calling is to donate books do that, but if you are looking for votes in return then your donation become worthless, vain.

If we don’t give him a chance to see what he really has to offer then how do we know for sure that he is just “ANOTHER” politician?? Furthermore being a politician is a job so why is it the first thought that he is looking for fame?? Why not reward the man for his good deeds seeing that the parl rep cant do any better?! If he is really doing it for fame then he too shall get his share! Time will tell…

Grand standing! If u want to give back something
to your country that is great. But it does not necessarily mean that the Whole of Dominica should know. It is the Heart and the children who are going to benefit from it. I know of some other
Dominicans who have donated books and pay tuition
for some children and it was done privately. The most important it was done from the Heart and that’s all.

Labour has done massive developments in the Soufriere constituency. For over 30 year people in the constituency voted for Freedom. Freedom did nothing, 4.5 years of UWP, they did the salamon road in Pte Michel and that was it. They did nothing for Scott’s Head, Soufriere and in Gallion they attempted to put water up dere but it had to take the Labour Party to complete it and give the households water. The soufriere to Scott’s Head road, many ppl living in this area would remember the problems face with high sea and the loss of lives, now we have zero problems with this particular road. Alot of project in Pt Michel, one can see the building of the stall that are now being built to help the livelywood of these ppl. School grants, never before have we had this. parents were owing bus driver for many months now the headache is gone. Housing assistant for all, gas station, boats and engine for fishermen. Scholarship have been given to numerous student and lots more. So that is the reason why the Soufriere Constituency will continue to vote Labour. And i will say nothing will shake us.

      January 16, 2014

lol, are u serious, you said the ‘attempted’ to put water in gallion? everyone knows u.w.p bring water to gallion. enough of the lies. a party in power for just 4.5 years impacted the constituency while taking care of other places.

we literally had to beg d.l.p for a seawall, thanks God it’s there. you talk like pointe michel isn’t part of soufriere constituency. you say uwp did seawall in pointe michel and none for scotts head. laughable again. get back to the drawing board.

how dare you spew such lies, and propaganda. the truth remains our parl rep is a just a watch dog, in fact, this is a high title cause he isn’t even watching. he is merely a sleeping guard dog.

Mr Bellot, I have 2 words for you……. TEAM DOMINICA !!!

  21. Not me alone
    January 15, 2014

Mr. Bellot it is a DLP problem. When I look at what is happening today I have no doubt that it is Skerrit’s strategy to promote his personal agenda and be seen as the savior and king. After all, when all parlreps fail and Skerrit succeeds, will he not have grounds to fire them and have the people to say, “Is Skerrit I voting for and not parlrep?” Now if Dominicans were smart enough to say since they voted for Skerrit and Skerrit failed them, then we will vote him out, that would for sure solve our problem. So a Sam Martin failure is a Skerrit failure and a Skerrit failure is a DLP failure and that’s why they MUST BE VOTED OUT!

  22. Not me alone
    January 15, 2014

It would be a serious mistake for anyone to conclude is a Sam Martin problem, Folks, even if we try to play blind and dotish we cannot hide away from the fact that this is a DLP problem. There is not one constituency won by the DLP that is not suffering from that same problem. Look, Matthew is a paid failure in Paix Bouche, So too is Ian Douglas in Portsmouth; so is Austrie in Cottage that someone from the even threatened to challenge him. Don’t even mention Colihault, St. Joe is the same mess. Though not so much complain in Mahault, Blackmoore is more a talker than anything else. In Roseau North, Timothy has failed and most likely will be replaced; Ambrose is the biggest of failures, Grandbay is a failure and so to is Petete Savan, Roseau Valley…BIG FAILURE! Castle Bruce has failed; Petter St. Jean has failed big time in La plaine, Carib Territory is a disaster and so too is Wesley. Did I miss anywhere? Oh Viellecase, the home of Skerrit. In terms of community development and togetherness he has failed big time but because of his very, very, very deep pocket, all voters wish they were from his constituency because their chance of getting a $100.00 would help cover up the big problem.

Once one is receiving Black Sigatoka Plywood and other building materials it is expected that this person must remain silent. Now when someone is independent and not receiving red clinic high blood pressure tablets if that person speak is personal attack by Laborites.
Now this is a young man that has been involved in community building for many years while in Dominica and while residing abroad.

Doesn’t the man have a right to comment on the performance of the Parl Rep. In fact not one Laborite blogger has denied that the Parl Rep has been a dummy or a scarecrow in the garden of corruption. You when Laborites cannot stand on the issues they turn to character assassination just like Tony Astaphan continue to teach them.

I say way to go Dominica – let us continue to deride those who not only want to speak the truth but also those who dare to converse on an intelligent and relevant basis. With this attitude do we expect our young people to move away from the violence and lawlessness.
Joshua threw his hat in the ring he represent rum shop bandits.
Monelle – is half and half

Ronald Charles- work for car dealership and others have a bomb shell cooking up.

No wonder this Labor Party administration is more than happy to keep the people poor , subjective, ignorant and lacking in self motivation.

Seek search and destroy any opponent of the Labor Party criminal movement then come stand in line to receive a red clinic shot while Tony astaphan , Lennox Lawrence, Karmaline and karmala continue to spread the virus of ignorance , lies and deception.

As a private citizen if you use your position for gain it is a private matter; but as a political aspirant the people has a right to know your ethical violation, because you were trusted as a man of the law. lawyers, you took an oath, the matter should be straighten up before you put yourself in the limelight.

Since independence governments have tried to put Dominica on the world map in terms of tourism, sports, infrastructure, education and youth empowerment. Thomson in one speech in the Bronx, New York placed Dominica and Dominicans under the bus when he ripped us to treads. He made a general statement that during their 21 in 25 Dominican youth asked them (UWP) for guns to kill Chinese and Haitians and failed to mention any solutions he offered if he was ever told that story. What made Justina Charles a politician; Skerrit, Petta St Jean , Joshua Francis, Toulon, etc. This is the level of kindergarten type mentality you Laborites have. All it takes is an interest in people – that is all and the rest will fall inline including corruption and lies.

I guess if he was giving out pit toilet, building material , turkey and ham and red clinic cash for the day then that would be kool but he is giving out books to our children hopefully to help eliminate ignorance and that is not good enough. But note how you conviniently avoided everything else that he spoke about – the other ventures that he tried to get done with the help of the Parl rep.

Why am I not surprised that your immediate reaction is to try and destroy someone who has expressed interest in the politics outside the red sea of corruption. This is the MO of a corrupt administration – teach their loyalist to be attack dogs for anybody who dare question the integrity of the government operatives.

He never gave the impression that he is a god; adding insult to the injury you inflected on him you suggest he is no politician, it takes more than that! So, in reality you are saying that the quantity of books he donated value nothing.

For your information Rass, if this bought these books in the United States, you can be assured they must have cost him a bundle, even if he bought them in bulk. You are quick to assassinate him, while at the same time ignores the fact he said he contacted the Parliamentary Representative, who apparently ignored him and his offer to help.

Who is the better of the two men; the incompetent politician who does not have the commonsense to take some time out to exchange a few words with a citizen; even to simply find out what does the citizen want, or the man or the man who proved himself by letting his actions speak as loud as his voice!

Be reminded it does not take much to be a politician in Dominica; since the prerequisites are the trashing, and assassination of the characters of anyone in the political arena.

Please people from the soufriere constituency tell me what has same done up here. Both playing fields in Pointe Michel and soufriere are in a mess. Soufiere for example a fishing community why did not try to build a fishing complex in that area? Sports- look at the playing field.A community of so much great potential in cricket. what is he doing. Pointe Michel- A community with so many great footballers- what is he doing with that playing field. Music- how can he contribute to regenerate first seranade? SHAME ON THIS GUY!!!

Should i assume that the projects u have undertaken are because you have political aspirations. Since this being the case, one is left to wonder what sort of approach was made to the parl rep and maybe that was why the parl rep responded the way he did? Mr. Bellot you have made your intentions clear and lets hope there are no cobwebs in your closet!

quite a few constituents have been voicing complaints among themselves, to scared to make their voices heard, I hope you all remember the silence of your ministers on election day – as I am pretty sure you will be seeing them and receiving several promises on the days or during the week leading up to election.

I have met quite a few people who have in many ways tried to contribute to Dominica and are met with great difficulties (mostly port fees and lack of interest by gov officials) and when they try contacting the authorities – they are met with ‘silent walls’!

    Another one is Kelvar Darroux!

At least Reginald tell Jesus Skerite that he study Jungle dog barking in Guyana and he has Petro Caribe itchy fingers; Tim Tim just sailing wherever the boat go; Blackmore have his brother and Public Works. agree. However before Mr Bellot left the island he was active in the community, so I am not surprised he still is. He is quite right about Martin, this man never even walks through the village. He drives through and stops by some of his people and a particular bar by the bay, ZERO representation!!!! a total waste of a salary. If this is what a P R amounts to, we dont need one.

Always no comments from these POLITICIANS. These guys are like empty bags, they can’t stand on their own. After he takes it daddy skero, he will come out with a response which I’m certain will be a “mepwi” type response. It’s high time that they be exposed. FYI, there is also a white elephant in the Castle Bruce constituency who is doing nothing for the people except attend funerals. He has been nick named Jon-Yes, since all he does is say yes every time someone speaks to him and does nothing to assist. But as they say, yes is peace. DNO, I would like you all to get some photos on the Reunion Center in Castle Bruce to see how beautifully dilapidated it is, a center which is roughly 10 years old. A center built for indoor sports yet served as a storeroom for building materials of a private hotel while the young people are prohibited to enter there to play. Margweh sa.

Please mr. Bellot, that would be a dream come true if you are abale to rebuild the freedom Party because there are many of us who would never vote for UWP and are totally dissatisfied with the Labour party. Please however find fresh equal minds who are motivated by the need to develop our country and especially our Human resources. It is about time that we have people who will provide representation fitting the people of Dominica. we are sick and tired of the gutter politics which is being demonstrated by the current political parties.

      January 16, 2014

I am amazed by the ability of my fellow constituents to use selective amnesia!
The Freedom Party did absolutely nothing to develop or promote the Parish of St Mark, despite being voted in for far too many years by the St Mark constituents
I do concur that if a parliamentary rep is not delivering, he
/she should not continue in that post, however, there is a correct protocol which should be adhered to.
DNO has provided a platform which should be used constructively and should not be used as a vehicle for puerile and inane comments such as your comments about the defunct Freedom Party.

Here we go again another political aspirant, one who thinks that government should solve everybody’s problems. Your work and contributions would be better appreciated if you did not induce your political point of view. There a lots and lots of people who usually go through the same hassle and resolve it in professional and non political manner. You ulterior motive is pure political. POLITICS AND POLITICAL WANNA BE ARE KILLING THE NATION.

    Just one calypso verse ok:

    They will never be interested
in anything that doesn’t give them
the means to line their pockets
even if is to teach the children
but we must teach the children how to live
and how to give a helping hand
if is not for all but atleast for some
is not one set to live grand

so when you have a job a do
    do it well,
and when help is coming through
    see it though
    you have a responsibility
    it is your governmental duty
to be a positive impact on your constituency.

For those who disliked my comment and for those who came and say that he s doing it as a political stunt. Facts remain facts. He is giving something to the children so they might as well receive it. At the end of the day, each man has to face their own karma but at least, the children got something from it. So it Red wanna give children something, take it, if blue comes along, take it, if green, Yellow or Orange comes, take it. Let them give. they have so let them give. At the end of the day, is you and you alone to decide for yourself what is genuine or not.
