UWP and MRD are not the same – Green clarifies

Ron Green

Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) Ron Green is denouncing suggestions that there has been a marriage with the Movement to Restore Democracy (MRD) and his party.

Critics claim that both organizations are one in the same.

The MRD which consists of several opposition members was formed following the general elections.

Several other prominent individuals, who vocally opposed the Dominica Labour Party are also members of the MRD.

But Green told a press conference recently that the UWP is a member of the MRD and the decision of the UWP to boycott parliament was the main reason behind the new movement.

“It was our calls that lead to the formation of the MRD. We are members and we remain active in the Movement like other members of the public,” he said.

why cripple the country with all this legal BS. If there are election irregularities i support letting the law have its say., but the correct place for members of the legislature to challenge the executive is in the parliament and in the streets. stop cluttering the legal system with all this BS.

Mal Finni Ron needs to stop this rubbish.

Ron, please go and join Norris in the Catholic Church. Try to get on some board or commitee. Be of some value and stop the politicking. Elections are over. MRD and UWP are one and the same. No fooling us. Wake up and smell the coffee.

Ron Green is fooling no one. We are too intelligent for that. It’s time Ron find some work to do and be of some value to the nation. He is a pathetic man. I really feel sorry for him. But someone in his camp with some level of intelligence should approach him and speak (counsel) him before something happens. Who knows? The man need some help. He is in a world of his own, and he seems very lonely out there. I feel his pain. He must learn to be a man and to know when he is beaten. Thats life. He can run again in five years and probably receive some sympathy votes. But is high time he wake up and smell the country. DOMINICA IS ON THE ROAD OF PROGRES. NOTHING STOPPING US NOW. NOTHING!!!!!!!!!

      • really???
        March 17, 2010

hahahahah….Good one! Sam does not want to associate himself with UWP….so he made his own organization and invited the UWP, and Ron being desperate agreed. Who are the other political parties in the MRD? I haven’t heard Pestina or Para speak with, for, or on behalf of the MRD…only Ron, Edison, and Sam Rapheal.

Dear Editor I have been reading about this for a while and never wanted to comment but I have to The UWP gives me no choice. Firstly let me say here and now that what the UWP is doing is quite appropriate, because our type of Parliamentary system and democratic process dictates this, However my pain in all of this is the Margin of victory the Incumbant part won at the last Elections no way in Dominica that the DLP could have manipulated these 17 seats at least it’s impossible!
Yes I understand there may have been voting irregularities but exit polls and the fact the UWP went to the polls meant they had a chance but was beaten quite comfortably by the Ruling party. Mr. Ron u should never have advised your people to vote u knew all along the irregularities that would come up and u took a gamble and lost and this is where u went wrong and cannot be vindicated.
The people rejected your party at the Polls and thats a fact, if u knew the list was wrong and all sorts of other irregularities your party claims u made a great blunder and u must shoulder that responsibility now and look forward to next elections. Have u begun to address the problems early for the next elections? time awaits no one and 5 years will be around the corner shortly what are u doing about it? Sir please with all due respect things are too hard the world over to be embroiled with election petitions think quickly work something out amicably with Mr. Skerrit I am sure he will listen get your guys involve and vigorously persue electoral reform, do it now! I do not want any party running the country without a mandate and clearly, Sir they have been given one its not like in Antigua where its 9 seats to 7 and theyre in court and it was reported that the entire civil society knew there were problems, but in your case everything went smoothly independent observers confirm this. I understand the irregularities but they cannot be fixed at election time u need the parliament go there and change the laws governing electoral reform, clean the list, ongoing registration, house numbers and so on. Come on we have a Country to build it comes first not ourselves, we need work opportunities and so on, Dominicans are a peace loving people the world over. Get with it! God Bless Dominica and its people.

    Ron Green,

You have the power in your hands to prevent Dominica from becoming a one-party state. Why are you throwing that away and then complain that Skerrit wants to make Dominica a one-party state. Are you listening to yourself. Keep your three seats, seat in parliament and then you will effectively prevent a one-paryy state, But you are jeapordizing what you already have and then cry foul, fowl foul. You expect the people to vote for you again after you refused to recognize and make use of their mandate to your party in St. Joe, Marigot and Roseau

Oh! Mr. Green. Where has your reasoning gone? To Brutish beast?

      March 16, 2010

Ron is just showing Dominica how pathetic UWP is. They’re just incompetent and thirsty for power. They are trying tostop progress on the island by some foolish court appeal, and they making Trinidadian Lawyer come and help them in the process, they know for sure that no Dominican Lawyer will back them up

    March 16, 2010

But why somebody not telling Mr Green to take a vacation nuh? Sir we are tired with allu MRD and UWP. You guys are truly pathetic. We do not care about allu MRD nonsense. As for UWP , we not voting for allu again.

Let me tell allu something. Old people like Skerrit, Little children like Skerrit, and young people like me like SKERRIT. So allu block all ways and it burning allu.

SO take your no use clarification and go rest yourself. And you yourself Mr Green did not even win your seat. Imagine a leader of a party losing his seat. You should be so ashamed.

I am not a Skerrit fan at all but the opposition need to focus on better things as we (WE) try to move D/ca. I don’t condone the reckless behavior that occured over the las 5 years nor do I accept lawlessness thus if Skerrit or any other breaks the law they should be punished . I believe that the opposition should take active part in the parliamentary proceeding while they pursue justice.

Ok…i’m not into politics like that…but as a child my parents supported UWP. I migrated elsewhere as a minor so I wasn’t able to vote regardless, Edison James, Ron Greene and the likes of them need to go sit their sorry behinds somewhere. I’m getting tired of all this BS”…focus together on building the country…Dominica’s population is not high enough to support such democratic division. I agree everyone has their political rights but Gooshhhh…take a seat pause, focus and restrategize a proper plan to make sure you and your team have a chance on the next elections. BTW politics in D/a has left a bad taste in my mouth. (NO offense given, none taken:-)

  23. MRD and UWP are the one and the same.
    March 16, 2010

MRD and UWP are the same

Peoples Parliament was held at Harlem Plaza (owned by Bobby Fredrick) a former UWP candidate.

2nd Peoples Parliament meeting was held in Marigot ( Eddison James) and UWP’s power base.

3rd Peoples Parliament will be held in Salisbury (Hector John constituency) another UWP strong hold. There is a direct connection between MRD and UWP.
