UWP boycott to end

Edison James - says he will return to parliament following by-elections

The elected member for the Marigot constituency Edison James says the United Workers Party will return to the parliament following by-elections.

The three UWP elected members have been boycotting the parliament following the December 18, 2009 general elections which resulted in two members losing their seats.

James said he is not only confident that the UWP will be victorious at the July 09, 2010 polls but they will return to parliament.

“We have every intention of serving in the parliament. We respect the institution of parliament. There is a fundamental right of any group of people to take whatever action they have to take to draw the attention to issues affecting them,” he said.

James said while the UWP will return to the parliament, there is a still a level of concern regarding the electoral reform that has not been addressed by the prime minister.

“We ask Mr. Skerrit, do you intend to do something with respect to the removal of some of the barriers going forward?”.

James was addressing a forum on Saturday organised by some members of the community.

Eddy James is not the MP for Marigot. As i write there is a campaign on for a bye-election inMarigot to fill the parliamentary seat that eddy vacated by is boycott. He is likely to win. When that happens then he can be referrd toas the member for Marigot. Now he is the former MP for Marigot.

There was no sense to this boycott of parliament in the first place. These guys were elected to do a job and they chose to not do it! They shouldn't even be allowed in the pool of electorates.

    Alas Mr. James!

    That is pure lie!!!!

Is either you come to your senses and realize that Marigot People doh fraid u or u have them where they cannot think for themselves again!

And coming to think of it, when was the last time u ever hear School Child from Village get Island Scholarship? That is a big failure on your part as leader of a once prestigious constituency where the better brains of Dominica came forth and represented Dominica the world over!!!! What has gone wrong Mi Sa? Is what happen to d pickney dem? Or is it poor representation?

You declare that u not protest no more and start house to house campaign to get back in d house. Now from 1990 to now this be your 6th election and you breaking bigger records. In 2000 you dissolve house when u did in charge and on stage 6 months earlier than was necessary and up to this day u be in d yard. Now in 2009 to 2010 u doh even take oath of office after wining in December 18 , 2009 election much less to get d little paycheck and u in another election again for your same seat.

So is what masa? You not campaigning for 2014 or 2015 election or what? Are u saying that if you win come July 9 2010 that has to count for 2014 or 2015 election? Wel sa ur logic sophisticated and I suspect is d only way you can become leader of d opposition again for another 10 years. Well well well sa u have head!!!!!!!!

    What a FLIP FLOP!

You win your seat, you declare you boycotting because elections were not fair.
You boycott three times, while at the same time sending letter requesting to be excused from the House.
Your seat declared vacant, you going court because 'nobody' has the right to declare it vacant.
By-election declared, you running for seat under the same conditions that you boycotted for in the first place. You not even waiting on a decision from your court case first, you drop your hat in the ring.
You now coming and declare that you will go to the House when/if you win. Magwaysah!

Ah Dominicans are we so without pride and shame that we let our political leaders get away with them kind of nonesense? In what way is this guy any better than the PM? It is not shame on these guys you know, but it is shame on us, the electorate, the true owners of the country, who allow these guys to play games with us like we are little children. The only reason all this happened is because these guys were certain that whatever happens, what ever they do, they are sure to win their seats.

It is we who are responsible for all this comess. Because we put political leaders before the love of our country. Whether its for Skerrit or Eddison James, we come and make excuses for these guys, no matter what. When they're good we have to say they're good, when they're bad we have to say they are bad too.

How in any moral, straight decent society could these guys ever think of running for seat in by-election again?

Shame on us Dominicans, shame on us.

Gimme a break! It states in the constitution that if u miss three consecutive sittings then your seat is declared vacant. They can read! They didn't even need the Speaker to tell them so.They did it deliberately and so there MUST be bi-elections! The UWP should be made to pay for this waste of our time with bi-elections! How can the PM be to blame for bi-elections?! Do some of you actually read what you type before sending?! Sheeesh!

    I smell a daed rat!!!!!!

This is all a hoax folks. Now that bi-elections are inevitable, Mr. James declares that the three little boys will now behave themselves properly in school just so that the electorate will vote them back in again. This statement is one of desperation just in case any of their supporters were thinking of jumping ship with the upcoming bi-elections. Rest assured that they have no plans of changing tactics if re-elected. They will do the same crap again. This is not about party politics folks, this is about true and proper representation of the electorate.

Is people like you that making the PM and his coherts to believe they above the law and can do as they please.

We are in a democratic country. If something aint right we got a right to speak up. If speaking up gets you no where and demonstration is the next step then this we shall do. It is so heart rending to see that Dominica has so much so called “educated people” yet they act as illiterate fools. How can you leave in a country where you can ask a PM a decent question and get a decent response. Why is the PM and his coherts always goin around in circles when questions are asked. Have you thought of the DosEquis?

Right now Dominicans are really DOMMIES IN A CAN as the calypso goes. Dominica is running in a RED. yet all the labour fools are so blind under the red spell they cant see that. Plea tar Plee twis

well we all knew that Edison and the gang would come up with something at the last minute, this is their new ploy, thats all, they consistantly treat their people as a joke, you boycot and you say its to make a statement so why go now? what has changed? nothing its all a political joke at the cost of your own people they had no representation since the last election and as the servey is showing the people are feed up with their nonsence and they may lose their seats because of it, so there he comes we will go to the parliament after the by-elections, what was stoping you from doing so all along, people wake up these men dont care for you and your children future they only care about their own rare end and right its in hot water..

  25. Ron
    June 21, 2010

In spite of the numerous bad decisions that the UWP has made, they should be commended for their intentions although we have to wait and see what tricks they have up their sleeves. Could this be a strategy for people to vote them back in? Whatever the case, these old men are under some serious pressure from their supporters. It seems like Ron is slowly being pushed out because of his worthlessness politically .

I don't understand why Mr. james would now say that he will return to parliament following the by- elections.

what then was the point of his staying away?

how should i interpret this?, is this an election ploy?

why and where should i now cast my vote again? and if i vote again for mr. james. will my vote truly merit my voice in parliment.
