UWP interim leader ‘awaits delegates conference’ to comment on her readiness to lead

UWP Interim Leader Francisca Joseph

Interim Leader of the Opposition United Workers Party (UWP), Francisca Joseph said she awaits the party’s upcoming delegates conference before she can make any statement on her readiness to lead the party.

Lennox Linton who held the position as leader of the UWP submitted his resignation letter to the President of the party (Isaac Baptiste) with immediate effect September 30, 2022.

With Linton’s resignation, Deputy Political Leader, Francisca Joseph, ascends to the position of party leader until that position is determined at the party’s delegates conference which, according to one UWP member, is due to be held in November this year.

She told Dominica News Online (DNO) during an interview that she did not want to comment on whether or not she would actually want to lead the party in the next general election.

But, according to Joseph, women have the “capabilities and effectiveness” to do as much as anyone else

“When Mr. Linton resigned, I obviously became the interim leader and I cannot comment yet on anything further,” she said. “We have a delegate’s conference coming up and I await.”

She continued, “We await the delegates conference and see what transpires and emerges and we continue to do the work because we are a united party and we will fight for the cause of freeing our country from poverty and unemployment.”

Joseph mentioned further that she knows a lot of the ladies are supportive and are happy that a woman can hold a top position in any organization.

“It is a good day for women in Dominica,” she stated. “You know in the old Dominican sphere that women tend to be scared of getting into the political realm. You have to be strong.”

The top UWP official added, “I am speaking for young women and for girls that you too can stand up and you too can have the opportunity to be what you want to be in spite of the circumstances and you can stand strong.”

She said the party continues to do the work and focus on the issues which are affecting the country, “and to listen to the people.”

“We need their ideas, we need their suggestions, we need strategies as together we move this country forward for the benefit of everyone,” Joseph noted.

Meantime, she said Linton continues to be a leader even though he is not the political leader of the party.

“We know of the many issues that Linton has raised throughout his tenure as political leader and leader of the parliamentary opposition as well,” she said. “We know how passionate he is about Dominica being the best place to live, to work and enjoy life, a place where everybody can enjoy.”

Joseph said that in spite of the situation and what Linton has been through, “he still stood.”

“This is a leader that you want to emulate; this is somebody that is so passionate that you cannot help but like his passion about people and about country, not for self,” she stated. “Because if it was for self, I think he would have left the party a long time ago.”

“The UWP commends Linton and continues to stand with him,” she declared. “We stand together. We want everyone in this country to progress to a better stature of life.”

This lady is a very poor substitute for Mr. Linton even if it is temporary. She and her conspirators do not have the gravitas, persuasive articulation, popularity, visibility, and tact of the leader they overthrew.

They will be taught a lesson. Backstabbers and hypocrites are frowned upon by the overwhelming majority of society.

Let me ask the present executive of the UWP this. How do you expect people to have confidence in you after your disgusting action of sabotage? You have created your own doomsday.

You are so right with your comment. Do you remember when The PM was chosen by The DLP to lead the Country at such a young age and looked very shy, yes we should take the wait and see approach.

Shut up Gary, DLP did not select Roosevelt to lead: That crook had his backstabbing knife which he used to stab Pierre Charles in his back; actually sending him to his early grave!
Remember he ran to Barbados playing big going to Chines say he looking for help; when they told him they can’t deal with him because he is not the prime minister of Dominica?
Then after Charles demise, Revere became Prime Minister, when that little boy Roosevelt the corrupted crook Skerrit, harassed him to death; I believe Roosevelt caused the death of both his predecessors, and siege power!

And don’t forget he also stabbed my cousin St. Hillier from Wesley who should become the leader then, Roosevelt bullied his way with the corporation of a few crooks behind him to the top.

When a position is not deserving, and we force ourselves into; no matter what we do, it will never result in success.
If I get a position by killing people, it renders a curse on me oui!
        Hahahahahahahah!
        Him kill people eh!

One thing I will say to the interim and future leader of UWP and all other political parties, “strengthen your backbone!!!!!!

DA people not easy and they will attack from all directions. Firm up!!! Rise up, keep others around you strong. Our murdered sistren, Nelly Stharre (Raffoul) said in one of her songs ‘Let your children see you strong. Don’t let them break you or you lose your mind, don’t you know that Jah made you one of a kind, you got to stand up strong, you are Woman”!!!!

UWP and all other opposition parties need to come right if you all expect a change. Do your job and do it well!!!!

Don’t bother Ms. Francisca Joseph. That statement to DNO is weak and suggests a lack of leadership skills. Leadership is not given to you. You must take initiative, build a coalition, and have supporters rally around you. “She told Dominica News Online (DNO) during an interview that she did not want to comment on whether or not she would actually want to lead the party in the next general election”.
    Next candidate please.

There is a tendency for lots of words to be thrown out all over the place but where is the action to help the development of the country

Yes, you asked a pertinent question, where is the action to help the development of the country. I’m assuming this question you are referring to the newly appointed leader of the UWP as to what are her plans of action for development of The Country. That is one side of the coin, now are you not seeing what the Government action is in developing our Country.

When a Political Party is divided with squabbles among its member and supporters, do you really think that the party can come up with a plan of action to develop The Country. This New Leader has to disassociate herself from the past leadership and not embrace a failed model, they will not get to form The Government. The snake which cannot cast its skin has to die, this also includes the minds of the leadership of The UWP, and it’s grassroot political operative supporters that does not want to change their opinions on certain issues, stop deceiving yourself, and yes there is more drama to come.

Why are you trying to be sarcastic, about a person appearance, look at the issue at hand rather than a person appearance, such a silly ideological statement, “Rastar Doh care yeh what allyou say but mamzelle need to loose dat wig wi!!!”

Ms Joseph is in a very difficult position as the interim leader of the party. I am quite sure she is not going to be the leader going forward and therefore it’s difficult for her to say anything on behalf of the party since she doesn’t know who is the next leader going to be. I think the leadership of the party needs to push up the date of the delegates conference so we all could know who our next leader is as soon as possible even if Ms Joseph is the interim leader. At least as interim she could discuss with the new leader so there could be a vision we can all follow. With the state of Dominica we need to help immediately man

I heard the good lady with a short address this morning directed to the teachers on this Teacher Appreciation Day.

Honestly, I can’t recall one word from that shirt congratulatory speech. It was bland and did nothing to inspire. Whenever Mr. Linton speaks he commands attention by being on point and his exceptional eloquence.A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

My confidence in the discredited BACKSTABBERS of the UWP to rescue Dominicans from the jaws of a most malevolent and disastrous TYRANT is waning in what I know and see.

Well IBO, you do a lot of talking on DNO, now is the time to do some walking. Why don’t you throw your name in the hat for party leader of your beloved party? Let us see your pedigree. Or are you just an empty barrel like Ugly Lenny, bereft of ideas and just love listening to the sound of your voice?
