UWP promises modern hospital for Dominica

Francis said Dominicans deserve better healthcare

An upgraded and modernized hospital is on in the books for the United Workers Party (UWP) if the party is elected into office.

The promise is part of the UWP’s manifesto for general election.

UWP candidate for the Roseau South constituency, Joshua Francis, told supporters at a UWP rally that Dominicans deserves the best healthcare service.

“I say to you brothers and sisters that Team Dominica United Workers Party will ensure that we get an upgraded and modernized hospital in Dominica,” he said. “Team Dominica will construct a modern hospital in Marigot but more so we are committed to build an International Airport and as part of this package a hospital must be part of it.”

He said it is unacceptable that babies are dying in Dominica because of improper facilities.

“It is unacceptable that only a selected few in Dominica can be flown to Martinique, and be flown to Barbados and be flown to Miami,” he stated. “Each and every one of you here deserved the best healthcare service in Dominica, and that is why Team Dominica United Workers Party, as part of its core priorities, will ensure that we have an upgraded and modernized hospital.”

Francis stated that healthcare services is not just about physical infrastructure but also training of personnel involved in providing these services.

“We must look at the intellectual and the human resource base at each and every clinic in Dominica and as such that is why Team Dominica has consulted a few medical engineers, doctors and nurses so that when we get into power, we will ensure that you get training, nurses, fire officers, I say to you, each and every service provider will be afforded the opportunity to get training,” he said.

Francis went on to say that any government that shuts down a hospital near to its main airport must go.

“Any and every serious government will understand that as part of security that a hospital is a must next to its airport,” he sad.

Asking questions are in fact good thing if you are not understanding something fully, but this post provides good understanding even.

Gulfstream i agree with you, hospital are not located next to an airport, but they are not hours drive from an airport either. they are usually minutes drive away from the airport.

I love that phrase. “We lead and the others follow.”

UWP tell us something new you can do and where you will get the financing; something not in the DLP Manifesto.

Something we can give credit to the UWP that they can accomplish. Something that would not take us back to when you where in government and almost destroyed Dominica.

Anything you say is either a copy cat on the work already done or being done by the DLP that you have already heavily criticized or something to destroy the country; You are not ready yet to run a country like Dominica.

These two entities are desperately required. If the ‘Woodfordhill area is suitable, we can start with a new airport and extend the runway length over a period of time. Those who are advocating the status quo with Melville Hall Airport do not have Dominica’s best interest at heart.

Einstein once noted that, “The definition of insanity is repeating the same action multiple times and expecting a different result.” Dominica simply cannot move forward with that airport. We can change the name one million times and the end result will be the same.

Allowing the Marigot Hospital to fall into disrepair so close to the Island’s main airport was simply preposterous. According to the MOU with the People’s Republic of China, a new hospital was part of the MOU. If they are successful, I doubt the new United Worker’s Party Government will sever diplomatic ties with China.

Is long time i want to hear about a hospital , but why wait when election around to say all that stuff. In this case i must say these two political parties should know that a promise is a comfort to a fool.

We need better diagnostic care..these nurses are clueless half the time. Tell me what’s bloody wrong! And better dental care…why go to you, when I have to go to a private dentist and pay hundreds of dollars in reconstruction. Our health system scar me… I don’t need to go the hospital to buy vitamin B and paracetamol – for everything.

    Good!

The citizens of Dominica can look forward to better healthcare since the Labour Party has been speaking for quite a while about a new hospital in Roseau, complete with plans which the professionals have already examined and commented on, and importantly, the source of funding. I believe they have also spoken about a modern one in Marigot to replace the old one. If the UWP is now promising the same, then things are indeed bright healthwise for Dominicans.

As a matter of fact, I have noted that in the last few weeks almost all the Labour Party’s social programmes, yes we care, housing revolution, free health care for young and elderly, red clinic etc. which had been hitherto criticised heavily by the UWP are now being endorsed almost full scale. The only one left for endorsement is the eradication of pit latrines which was the source of amusement but as crunch time draws near, it may well be endorsed as well!

Barbara Saunders this guys are full of it..Skeritt was the one that had the vision for this things..He started out by getting your people educated..putting a good nursing program together and sending children and study in Italy and Morocco, this is called a system. Workers was going to make an international airport years ago with the most important roads in the country being a mess.

This guys couldn’t even build a good road from the Town to the airport that was at Canefield. This government had to endure so much struggles from the economic depression in 2000 to hurricane Dean or wateva it was in 2004. They had all this things against them now they kinda stable things all you want to come in power and jst ride on another man work and talk about “RE-VAMP”.

People in Dominica just believing this guy and his silly rookie politics. Guy says Skeritt spend over 200million USDollars on his campaign. But looking at the country GDP that doesn’t make sense, the GDP is actually between 400-500million . So basically everything that Dominicans spend, Businesses spend, and money spent on Export of goods was spent by Labour for their campaign but the GDP during election year and 3 yrs before when there were no elections is basically the same thing.

I do one semester of Economics in stockfarm college and that don’t make sense to me. Workers people are not here to make sense they are here to SHOUT “CHANGE IS A MUST” ask them fools what that means they cannot tell u..

It is good to make such an ambitious promise but please let us know how this will be paid for? I know DLP has its source from the Chinese and V. Where is your source? Would you continue the relationship with China? The country that you are now opposed to? Hmmm..Don’t give a carrot then pull it back. You know what happens when you do that. Just saying…

    • who pays the debts
      December 2, 2014

who is going to pay for the source of funding that you are speaking about? what are the terms and conditions of these millions given to us? have we ever thought that nothing in life comes for free? what is it in Dominica for countries given us grants and special concession loans? WHO IS GOING TO PAY?
WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR FUTURE? WHAT IS THE MOU OF THESE LOANS? could you please sit to ask yourself these questions? we as a country have no source of income? balance of trade deficit is at it all time worst. as much as I support any government which has good plans outlined but I would like to know at what cost things is going to happen. and most importantly the collateral damage- who is going to be affected..

I get your point, but most importantly, I will like to know where the UWP will be getting the funds as all those negetives applies to them also. I have not heard an explanation on that front- That makes me very uneasy.

An airport area hospital is needed now…in case of an accident at the airport…..transporting people to Portsmouth or Roseau are not realistic options.

It was always shameful that Labour prioritized a State House over a hospital.

  15. Wept
    December 1, 2014

I was taken a back when I saw the state of the hospital and I see a govt Palace being built. Shameful . Whats worse is the dumb Dominicans that follow Skeritt for the crumbs of his table dont see that.

It is about time we in Dominica get some attention to our helath care system. Gov’t after Gov’t have come and go but we arestill seeing the same or worse conditions at the hospital.
Shame on DLP for spending so much on campaign but nothing on health care.

    December 1, 2014

That’s my next Parl Rep. Joshua you will do well. You have my vote!

  18. December 1, 2014

In all reality the abandonment and eventual closing of the Marigot Hospital should have long ago sealed the fate of the Dominica Labor Party. Dominicans who understand the vital importance of a Hospital in close proximity to a Country’s major airport have already lost all faith in the DLP. However, for DLP faithfuls the potential major loss of life is of no consequence. These blind supporters only see an “us against them”, “we win you lose” and ” as long as my party is in power” reality. If hundreds die as a result of a catastrophe at the airport it won’t matter to Laborites as long as it’s the DLP in power. I can personally tell you if the UWP was in power and the closest Hospital to the airport is forced to close its doors, I would be the first to condemn and question my Government’s priorities!!!!

Now u are blaming the PM for the closure of the hospital, no it’s because the Parl. Rep. was not doing the People’s business in the House Of Assembly, instead of discussing the state of affairs of the Marigot Hospital in the House , he and his associates {UWP} were staging walk out off parliament and rather to have People’s Parliament around the various communities. all that time the situation was getting worst,

      December 2, 2014

The former Prime Minister resides at Marigot why he cannot to help change things.
He was an opposition leader that is where he have to talk about his problems. Instead he walks out because he wanted a recount smh>>all u Dominicans just repeating stupid talk.

“Team Dominica will construct a modern hospital in Marigot but more so we are committed to build an International Airport and as part of this package a hospital must be part of it.”

lol.I bet how? When your PM want no advisers and 10 people in cabinet. The China people already done have that plan for us. Workers always have a plan..smH but it never making sense. Marigot dough get nice road nah..and lights. More important than having a great hospital is access to it ..IDIOT..access..You can have the best hospital and to access it takes 2hrs on old road people still gonna die..

Workers have a set of plans but none of their plans shows any logic..They want a state of art hospital that going to produce so much ELECTRICITY. u guys sold Domlec..U have no plans of alternate source of energy..U want big air port ..I hope treasury can pay the utility bills..cuz I want all workers Pay as U Go light in all u hospital to go one night..

What am trying to say is..leave these problems up to Skeritt..Skiri sorry but stop making Edison James right your Lines for you..OH SORRY..YOUR LIES FOR U..

UWP please tell us sources of financing for the new hospital. What negotiations are ongoing for such activity if being successful at the polls? How much is the new hospital gonna cost?
In all my travel, I’ve never seen hospitals located next to main airport. What I’ve seen are paramedics stationed next to airports.
