UWP ready for general election – Linton

Linton said the UWP is excited over the prospect of change

Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) Lennox Linton said the party will be ready whenever the next general election date is announced.

Linton, who was addressing a press conference on Monday, said so far the party is excited over the prospect of change.

“We are very ready, we have spent the last six months or so fine-tuning our preparations and looking at the essential things that need to be done, preparing for them. The critical activities in the home stretch of the campaign is to be adequately funded and brilliantly executed,” he noted. “So far, so good, we are excited about the prospect of change and a new government for Christmas would be nice.”

He stated the party’s main concern has to do with the strategy that the ruling Dominica Labour Party (DLP) government is employing in order to win the election.

“It’s not a strategy based on honest engagement with the people of Dominica, as to what the issues are, what development needs of the country are, what we should do for our young people, what we should do to employ our young people who are sitting at home and what we should do for our senior citizens,” he explained.

Linton revealed that the UWP has remained standing due to growing popularity and not because of money.

“The reason we are standing, we are growing in popularity across Dominica. It’s not because we have money,” he stated. “The party that has the money is the one that finds itself struggling. With all the money they have it was still necessary, on September 11, for them to have an entire meeting in Lagon to talk about one man leading a party with little money, Lennox Linton.”

Linton stated further that every initiative by the UWP to make people know better and do better in Dominica is criticized and shot down by the DLP.

“They criticize us for asking people for money, they criticize us for a radio fund that raises $20,000. They say I use it to go here and there,” he remarked. “The reason they can criticize us for being honest in the engagement of our people is because they know that money is not a concern for them for the election.”

He stated when it comes to fooling and bribing people, “there is no shortage of money” for the DLP.

More wishful thinking. Are they saying it is okay for a Christmastime Election this time?

Does the UWP remember anything they have said in the past?

Unbelievable to say the least Lennox. You are unaware of your audience. You are addressing grown people like preschoolers. Are you really on planet earth? How can you promise fish tanks and swimming pools to adults and expect to be taken seriously? Oh for crying out loud! You will be defeated, you are a confused, comedian party. Swimming pool and fish tank. Hahahahahahaha! :-D

It is time for candidate number 3 to make itself known to the people, otherwise, not much is going to change. If they are still dumb enough to vote for 1 or 2, then their fate is sealed.

You better be ready for Skerrit to pull out all the stops to stay in power. People had best start signing up for shifts to watch over the voting and the ballots. No electronic voting. ID required.

I think Lennox Linton is not serious. Lennox spent the beter part of the last ten years denigrating Roosevelt Skerrit at every opportunity he got. the last five years was the worst. Skerrit greedy. Skerrit corrupt. Skerrit thief, Skerrit this , Skerrrit that and more Skerrit. Can we forget the program “between me and You”. Every Saturday Lennox spent three hours on Roosevelt Skerrit. Let us calculate that. Three hours per week; Four weeks per month and twelve months per year for five years. 720 hours of time spent on Roosevelt Skerrit calling him thief and corrupt etc. To add to his listenership Justin case he missed somebody on the Saturday, Lennox would rush to the radio station on a Monday morning. For some time he was a regular feature on Monday mornings to emphasize some of what he said on the Saturday and later the Sunday. To Lennox’s calculations can be added that of Matt Peltier, Carlisle Jno. Baptiste, Angelo Allen and Arundel Thomas, Lambert Charles etc etc. Roosevelt Skerrit came under the political gauntlet in ways that would make the ordinary man crumble. Today Lennox is in politics. He wants to be PM on the basis of his smooth talk and eloquence. He is thin skinned to questions about the details of his economic development program. He is ill at ease with his name being called. After one year and one meeting he is complaining bitterly. Wait till the bell is rung Lennox.

We need change. 14 Years is enough and people are still eating crumbs . People that don’t like themselves that will continue to support that government .
Labour will give you galvanize and make u stay another five years for the plywood.

Change is a must not an option.

Lennox what happen you cannot take more blows?
Is the kitchen too hot for you now?
Why are you so obsessed with general election?
You stayed 14 years giving Skerrit blows now you in the ring not even a good year you crying stop it. You seem to forget too quickly.
Look like the faster election is called the less blows you will get.
Well bro you lie. Skerrit has to take his time and call election when he finds it fit.He has up to May 2015 to do so. So in the mean time you got some blows to take for sure. Longer election takes to call, more blows on you. Stop crying because your crying won’t brake Dominicans heart. You are reaping just what you sow.

I think the prospect of a new government for Christmas will be as delicious as our Sorrel, Black Pudding, ginger beer and all the other good stuff we have come to associate with Christmas.
I believe the idea of political change, when it happens, will be something our fore fathers will be pleased about and will be smiling down from their heavenly rest.
We must never forget that there are countries on this planet that do not have the luxury of being able to change a government at will, and if no no other reason, Dominicans can and should demonstrate that they are able to peacefully change a government that has been in power for 14 years… a very long time for one political party to be in office.
We all know that power corrupts and this current regime has more than abused their welcome and have turned the country into a cess pool of corruption that can only be reversed by ushering a new government.
I honest believe that it is now or never.
We will have ourselves to blame if we reelect DLP and later find out our constitutional rights are abrogated and the freedoms we have come to take for granted are no longer guaranted.
This thing called democracy cannot be taken for granted and the only way to ensure that this commonwealth remains a democracy is to vote a ruling party out from time to time. We did it to Freedom and we should do no less to Labour. They deserve to be reminded that the power of the people is vastly superior to the people in power.

    • Ahful
      October 18, 2014

It’s that same democracy that will return the DLP to government. Sad try.

Lennox forget that for 14 years he was talking about one (1) man: Roosevelt Skerrit. Lennox was not in national politics at the time but he is in it now and he should just prepare to take blows.

Prepare yourself lennox because you have more blows to get. Novice you will always remain. You may be parl rep of Marigot but you will never be prime minister of this beautiful country Dominica.

Apart from Papi Lennox is the worst political candidate in the history of Dominica. He is delusional if he thinks he going to win that election and his supporters even more delusional than him if they think he is going to win that election.

People who keep asking me where i stand I dont stand for any party I stand for whats best for Dominica and in my opinion that is not Lennox. Say what you want everybody entitled to their opinion.

this is one thing I don’t understand with UWP and Labour supporters. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. You may not agree with Blaze, but why do you have to go into name calling and pettiness. The person voiced their opinion, that is the right of every citizen of this country. This is the problem we have in Dominica now. No one wants to allow people the right to voice their opinion – you just agree or disagree with them and move on…sigh… It’s high time this country got over politics.
