UWP ‘Team Dominica’ embarks on Caribbean tour

They are back at it again.

This time the United Workers Party (UWP) is targeting the Dominican diaspora living in the Northern Caribbean.

Members of the party are set to leave Dominica on Monday for a meeting with Dominicans living in Gaudeloupe on Tuesday.

“We are on our way to Guadeloupe … that is the opening part of the Caribbean tour,” Dr. Thompson Fontaine told Dominica News Online on Monday morning. “The meeting with Dominicans is tomorrow (Tuesday) … so we will engage the Dominicans in Guadeloupe tomorrow night (Tuesday) at 7 o’clock at Baie Mahaul (part of the capital). We will also be meeting with some investors that have some interest in doing business in Dominica tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.”

The team includes Fontaine, political leader Lennox Linton, deputy political leader Claudius Sanford, candidate for Castle Bruce Isaac Baptist, opposition leader Hector John, and Laplaine candidate Ron Green.

They leave on L’espress des Isles at 3:00 pm and will return on Wednesday.

“Then we come back to Dominica and leave on Friday 25th for St. Croix and return on the 30th,” Fontaine explained. “We will do St. Croix, St. Thomas, British Virgin Islands, St. Maarteen and Antigua.”

He stated that many of the islands to be visited are population centers where many Dominicans live.

“We think it is important for us to reach out and to meet Dominicans living in the diaspora to inform them of their rights with regards to voting, and to inform them of the legal process,” Fontaine said.

He stated that the UWP is aware that many people in the diaspora voted in the last general election without full knowledge of the election laws.

“So we are looking to make clear what the laws state with regards to elections, with regards to persons spending time outside Dominica and their eligibility to vote,” he noted.

He also pointed out that the tour is paid for by the UWP’S campaign funds.

Recently the UWP visited the United States of America and Europe in attempts “to educate and engage” Dominicans living there.

    Here are the facts:

UWP will win 8 seats at the next election cycle.
There is no way they will win La Plaine because on the ground Ron is MIA. Thomson will lose Grandfond if he continues to neglect his ground work. Castle Bruce is a big Maybe.. They should have encourage Giselle to run and have Urban bring his support to her…..Central Roseau is gone.

For all those who think there isn’t truth in this, go on the ground. That’s where it begins and ends.

Even the horses in the race will admit that.

Wat is MIA? More Involved & Active? Because Ron has never left the “ground”, continues active in organizing sports, & lives in de community unlike others I know. Where do u live?

@UWP, You said the voters will judge the UWP? Well I can say that I am a voter who has only voted DLP from 1990-2009. However, I am sorry to say that I have judged this new and disguised version of the DLP and whenever elections are called, I will reject them because they have rejected DOMINICA. Concerning the UWP, I falsely accused them, judged them, rejected them and hated them in the name of partisan politics. This I deeply regret, and on behalf of my family I ask DOMINICA to forgive me for the pain and hardship I caused them by supporting a failed DLP that does not care a thing about our beautiful people and nation.

    • UWP?
      April 15, 2014

Well, whether you vote for them or not, it is a judgement call you will have to make.

By the way stop with that nonsense about asking for forgiveness. You back to playing the same politics. Every five years you have a right to choose who you thing is best suited to run the country. Dominica rejected UWP three consecutive times. This wasn’t a mistake and untill we can acknowledge that fact, UWP is going no where.

      • Labour Power!!!
        April 15, 2014

@UWP, I did not vote them for none of the three terms and as I look back, I can tell it was a serious mistake which resulted in the deaths of two of our well loved PM’s while in office, which led to a national whip and hurricane called Skerrit and the elevation of the most DLP hated and betrayed freedomite as president. Those three terms were very costly for Dominica and for this I ask for your forgiveness.

@Not Me Alone Well My friend i am sorry to have thought that you were DC. I do agree with you fully On the issue of “Between You and Me”. I have already expressed on this medium that this was the Most Dynamic and most listened to Radio Programme in Dominica, and the Caribbean. It even had a very good international appeal. WOW THIS WAS GREAT STUFF!!!!! BY A GREAT LOCAL MAN! During my days as a Labourite, i could remember labour stalwarts saying to labourites that they should not listen to this programme. Being the type of person that i am,I LAUGHED AND DEFIED THEM. I decided to listen to it one Saturday. On this Saturday Professor Linton gave his audience a comprehensive rundown of who ‘The Villas ” belong to. E-mails after E-mails after E-Mails were read in a chronological order, and i was nore than highly impressed. I kept on listening RELIGIOUSLY every Saturday from then on, until i became one of the most regular listeners to this programme. I liked Lintons command of the english language, he sounds more honest that many of the greedies in the Labour party, and I JUST LOVE THE MAN.
On the issue of Francis, Fontaine and others making more use of Q95 i agree with you fully, AND I HOPE THAT THE PARTY’S HEIRARCHY IS READING THESE BLOGGS.

On the other hand, the name Chickubgunia sounds like a name associated with the Middle East or Bangladesh. Perhaps you are overlooking one thing. Our people overseas are more numerous than those at home and are a potential source of investment capital. I suspect that many Dominicans overseas would invest back home if the economic climate were to improve and create the right incentives. It is not just about direct votes but also the influence that can be brought to bear on voters in Dominica, who depend on assistance from family and friends overseas.

    • Dominica
      April 15, 2014

Because you do not understand what they are doing. I can see you are not a listener of Q95, when you listen to the other radio stations you end up in the situation you are now. They are going to the diaspora to say what they have always been saying, which is “IT IS OK TO COME DOWN TO YOUR COUNTRY TO VOTE BUT VOTE ACCORDING TO THE CONSTITUTION” the people never once said do not come down to vote and leave us in misery, we Dominicans on the ground are the ones who are saying that. Right now all kinds of names are appearing on the voters list, Haitians who just enter the country are on the list, names of person who are in the diaspora and is overseas for more than 5 years are being registered. For example, I saw a name on the list, of a child who just turned 18 in January because she was born on the same day with my son, but have not been in the country within 5 years. Her aunt is the one registering persons and she is on the list. So God knows how many others are doing that. This is wrong!!!.

I know UWPites will give me thumbs down but as a person who will be voting UWP come next election, I don’t like their winning strategy. On Vision to move Dominica forward, I give them A+. On quality of candidates I also give them A+. But on winning strategy I give them C-. now is not time to waste time and money travelling. It’s time to use plenty time and resources in Dominica, particularly in constituencies where they have a good chance of winning. They should leave the Caribbean for Q95, since most Dominicans residing abroad listen to Q95 than those leaving in Dominica. In fact Lennox needs to go back or spend more time on “Between you and me” which was once upon a time a very powerful 4 hour class and has now been reduced to 2 hrs with a host that is not as effective as Lennox.

    • Not Me Alone
      April 14, 2014

It was “Between You and me” that made lennox popular to the point where he was able to resurrect a UWP party that was not too appealing. So Lennox needs to make use of that a little both on Saturdays and Sundays to educate those leaving abroad, while they spend more time and resources in constituencies like Wesley, Salybia, Grand Fond, Castle Bruce, Laplane, Roseau Valley, Roseau central, Roseau North, Roseau South, St. Joseph, along with Marigot and Salsbury. I feel they have a good chance in Colihault and Soufriere. The election is theirs to lose and they just need to come up with a winning strategy to cement it for all Dominicans.

It was the truth and education I got from teacher Lennox every Saturday evening that drew me to UWP. Do I miss him? You bet!. I am not saying he should resign from UWP to continue the program. I am simply saying that he should spend more time hosting that program and that UWP should make more use of Q95 to reach those of us residing outside. Because DLP PRO Philbert Aaron said on the public record that UWP under the leadership of Lennox Linton believes in the politics of truth, he went on to say that truth has no place in politics. That is why we rely on the factual and unchallenged information about the state of the economy put out by the UWP. Skerrit and the DLP have been trapped lying so many times on Q95 that we have lost count. After elections, Linton will accuse the DLP of stealing the victory and he and his team will spend the first 3 of their next 5 years in opposition stirring up daybah, fighting in court, boycotting, spewing venom on everyone and everything remotely linked to the DLP…Wait awhile, it seems that we already have been receiving all this from them. Sigh!

After elections, nothing much would have changed.

      • mujahardin
        April 15, 2014

And according to Philbert Aaron since Lennox believe in truth, the only way DLP can win elections in Dominica is how they did it for the past 2 election, by stealing. Skerrit has never won elections in Dominica. Ask Tony Astaphan about that. You don’t listen to Q95 so you will definitely not understand what I am talking about. DLP is making you live a lie. You need to wake up for your own good. Show me that you are not afraid of truth, listen to Q95. You can only honestly criticize Q95 after you have listened to them for yourself, not listening to what other people tell you about Q95. Listen for youself so that you can come to an honest conclusion. Stop making others think for you.

On the so-called Animal Show on Saturday, Tony told the Dominica Labor Party Supporters, there are two reasons why the UWP wanted Skeritt to call the Election so badly. First, they were burnt out with all the travelling and bankrupted of new ideas. Second, they had no more campaign funds. Once again, Mr. Linton has caught the jokers napping. Remember, the famous declaration, “I am a novice in politics,” today them fellers cannot find a solution to Linton’s wizardry. Remember the famous words of Skeritt,” why doesn’t he leave the radio microphone and enter the political ring,” today, guest who is asking him to go back to his radio program.

The same attitude is observed in the DAAS with landgate , annual rafflegate and DAASgate. That is how they finance their campaign. There is more according to word on the street. You seem a very good fit for that company. You knew how to finance your vree lifestyle.
Dominicans are finding out that those new uwp teamers are . They are idle but can produce 10, 000 jobs, BUT cannot produce ONE for themselves. Talk about corruption. There are 3 type of lies. (1) LIES , ( 2) dam lies ,and (3)whatever you and the new uwp team say.

Workers have a very good team, a very good vision to rebuild Dominica but a very poor strategy in winning the next election. I feel they need to place more emphasis on winning in constituencies they stand a very good chance of winning and then do what they need to do later to cement the win. They need to make sure that they take back Wesley, Salybia, Castlebruce, Grandfond, Laplaine, Roseau North, Roseau Valley and St. Joseph along with keeping Roseau Central, Salsbury and Marigot. If they win these seat, they form the next election. They also have a good chance in Colihault, Roseau South and Soufriere. Going all over the Caribbean and the world is just wasting resources they need to win the above constituencies. They need to come with a good winning strategy to get their message in every hole in Dominica, knowing that laborites don’t listen to Q95 and both DBS and Kairi that most laborites listen to are anti UWP. This election is their’s to lose and they better come up with a gooooooood winning strategy.

Emile; the late Paul Southwell born in the Village of Castle Bruce, a former police office during the colonial era served in St. Kitts. He then turned politician, and was deputy Chief Minister to Robert Bradshaw.

When the West Indies Federation was formed, and Bradshaw took up his post in Trinidad which was selected as Capital of the West Indies, Paul Southwell became Chief Minister of St. Kitts, after the collapsed of the Federation Robert Bradshaw returned to St. Kitts, and took over his old position as Chief minister.

After Independence, Bradshaw died while in power, Southwell again became Prime Minister, and eventually died in office while he was on official governmental business; I am not sure if it was in Trinidad, or Barbados he expired, that was in the late 1960’s early 1970’s.

By the way Paul Southwell was born in Dominica to Antiguan parents, who were from the village of Sea View Farm in Antigua, they migrated to Dominica in the 1920’s, remember in the 1920’s and even in the late 1940’s people immigrated from Guyana, Barbados, Antigua, Montserrat, St, Kitts, and Nevis, and a few Anguilans.

We must not forget also that Perceval, and also Jerald Watts who served in government on the island of Antigua are born to Dominica parents, and the man who along with old man V. C. Bird who formed the Antigua Trade and Labor Union, the Levi Joseph was Dominica born also, a village boy born in Thibou.

Oh dear! Such a confused bunch! They brag about credentials, however, their actions contradict their claims. They don’t have the slightest clue about winning an Election. Lennox was on the radio this morning predicting that election date will be announced soon, however, they have embarked on a journey to satisfy their selfish needs, rather than focus on the people on the ground. UWP will continue to learn by observation of the DLP, since they have yet to achieve more than a D. The UWP have not proven their ability to lead, therefore, they will face defeat at the next election which they so desperately want. Needless to say, they are not ready. DLP, all the way!

Baie-Mahault is a town in Guadeloupe which hosts the largest Industrial Zone of Europe (Guadeloupe being an integral part of France).
It is not however a part of the chief admistrative town of Basse-Terre. Guadeloupe is not a country but a region/department of France and consequently does not have a capital.
