UWP thinks last general election was ‘free and fair’ – PM

Skerrit

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has responded to the United Workers Party’s (UWP) decision to withdraw election petitions that it had filed against the Dominica Labour Party.

Skerrit said the move means the UWP thinks the last general elections were “free and fair.” He said this while addressing the official opening of a new water supply system in Petite Savanne Friday.

UWP leader Ron Green said lawyers for his party have advised them not to pursue allegations in court that there was bribery and “blockage of access” to state media during the 2009 election campaign. The two matters were among five election petitions the UWP had filed in court; but the matters in question were struck off and the UWP subsequently decided  not to take them to the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal.

However, the Opposition says it is strongly pursuing the case of dual citizenship it filed against Skerrit and Minister for Education Petter Saint Jean.

No human has the right to hate gays. We all fall short of gods loving kindness and wisdom because we were born in sin . No sin is greater than the other. Just because their lifestyle disgusts you doesn’t mean they are not human they deserve to be happy at the end of the day God will not punish you for their sins this means more space in heaven for us. The same way we tolerate lieing homosexuality should b tolerated they are both sins that society despise . U cannot lash a person for lieing allu do is turn away so y should it be different for gays. Y can’t they raise children. They are not animals they are human like all of us. Go gays !!!!!

DNO was actually looking for the story on the Petite Savanne water project…..but guess that was the only thing that the PM said of importance, or was it the only part of the speech that would bring more viewers, comments, etc. U so called “journalist” and “media” personnel really are something else when come to reporting. You guys never report the important stuff or what the ppl/readers would like to to know, but ur biased take on the news items….or the comments of soundbites that are more controversial…..smh

I am waiting for the nasty comments from all an sundry….but guess what my back is large and its like dasheen leaf….and FYI i am a Dominican not any “ite”…SO BRING IT!

AND WHILE THE PM IS GIVING EXPLANATIONS, WHAT ABOUT THE AGREEMENT THAT WAS MADE WITH THE UN TO ACKNOWLEDGE GAY RIGHTS? DNO WILL YOU INCLUDE THIS ARTICLE ? I AM DISGUSTED. DOES THAT MEAN THAT GAYS CAN GET MARRIED IN DOMINICA? DOES THAT MEAN THAT GAYS CAN ADOPT OR RAISE CHILDREN IN DOMINICA? DOES THAT MEAN THAT GAYS CAN LIVE TOGETHER, HAVE SEX, GO TO CHURCH, AND RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION. I WOULD LIKE THE CHURCH TO GIVE ME SOME ANSWERS ON THAT ALSO. WHAT AN ABOMINATION! WHAT ELSE DOES THE PM HAVE FOR THIS COUNTRY. DOMINICA WAS THE ONLY EASTERN CARRIBBEAN COUNTRY TO SIGN THE DECLARATION. WELL WELL WELL. ARE WE STILL THE SWEET GOD FEARING NATION?

Well am no gay dont believe in them boys sleeping in same bed but on the other hand how can u blame the pm when u know half of the men in da is gay cause they hiding it by having wife, and kids.
some of u tend to turn a blind eye so even if he sign with the UN or not there will still be gays in da stop being a hypocrite.

    • The truth
      April 10, 2011

Loads of countries give gays standard human rights. Rights and having the ability to adopt, get married and all of the above are not exactly all the same. When these things are being done they have to take society into consideration along with what it will put the kids who are being adopted through. I honestly think that the way it is in dca, any child with two fathers would probably be bullied in school. Hence, the gov would probably opt not to implement it. That’s one example. What happens in the western world cannot always be practiced in ours because our culture is different. That would cause chaos

It wasnt the PM who signed on to Gay Rights , I dont know where you get the News from? Leave the man alon Eddison James and Ron Greene spent 5years in Goernmntbeing American citizens and right now they trying to penalise the PM for having dual citizenship?

I wrk at the Airport and I even check in those guys with American passports to St Thomas, St Croix and even Pueto Rico, they even have green cards, please investigate , i can even pull records of their passports, they have to drop that case before they’re EXPOSED.

U.W.P. asked for international observers before the elections and they got them. When the election results came out, oops they decided that the international observers opinions were not valid enough to indicate a free and fair election.

Then they say they wanted i.d. cards, but i.d. cards were not used for the by-elections in Marigot and Salisbury. Anyway ahah they agreed with the results. So I think that the story is clear. Wherever they win they say things were fair but wherever they loose they call it voleer. The election petitions were all nonsense from the start. And so is the pass-port story a big joke.

Go on P.M. keep strong and keep the faith. And know that people doesn throw stone at ole mangoe. You are a man worthy of praise.

Why does Mr. Skerrit keep insulting the intelligence of the Dominican people. Or is it that he is so wrapped up in his own world that he really thinks that all Dominicans…I am not talking about the illiterate ones that seems to worship the ground that he walks on. But I believe that we have a lot on intelligent thinking Dominicans who can read between the lines.

He sounds so pathetic. He sees a strategic decision not to pursue a matter as an agreement.

  17. What a Nacissist?
    April 9, 2011

Suffering from NARCISSISM. There are many people living in this world who think that the WRONG ACTS that they commit are not wrong but RIGHT. GBAGBO, President of Ivory Coast, although the international community confirmed that he lost the elections in 2010, he is adamant and still believes that he was the winner. GBAGBO has plunged the country into a civil war, devastation, innocent citizens killed and wounded. In Afghanistan’s election, massive fraud, like crazy. The international community recognized that the last elections was marred by numerous cases of irregularities, yet Karzai remains in power.

All Dominicans now know that Skerritt and Petter St. Jean made false declarations and therefore LIED on the NOMINATION FORM in the 2009 General Elections. Those two politicians possessed DUAL CITIZENSHIP, but refused to inform the ELECTORAL COMMISSION, which is responsible for conducting elections. They themselves admitted that they were FRENCH CITIZENS. They committed an ILLEGAL ACT against the LAWS OF THE LAND and should not now be parliamentarians because of their illegal actions. All Dominicans KNOW THAT as a FACT.

Yet 15 MONTHS LATER, those two are in Govt., IN POWER, WITH POWER. So could Skerritt tell us what is FAIR about that ILLEGALITY? It was SKERRITT who boldly claimed that NO CONSTITUTION, NO LAW could PREVENT HIM FROM being NOMINATED, knowing fully well that he was not ELIGIBLE due to his DUAL CITIZENSHIP STATUS at the TIME. Dominicans, THAT IS THE TRUTH, NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH. YET Skerritt remains the POLITICAL Leader of the country, irrespective of that irregularity, and utter disrespect for the ELECTORAL LAWS.

With such WRONG things happening and being condoned, supported by some Dominicans, there is no guarantee that Elections in Dominica in the future would be FREE and FAIR. In addition, BRIBERY is WRONG. Bribery is again against the LAWS. Yet BRIBERY done in elections is OK and NOTHING happens? If an act done against the Law is WRONG, it is WRONG, it is WRONG. No two ways about that.

What a Nacissist? Why all that rant about the PM’s statement which clearly states that the UWP thinks the election was free and fatr, the OAS Observation Team and the OECS Observers thought the same. The Electorial Office not only thought so, but approved the results. Just Let Go my friend.

The High Court thought it was free and fair, hence its decision. Now the UWP has also confirmed that that is its opinion by withdrawing its matter against the Electorial Office and the Parliamentarians, so what next?

Kindly take some time and think of all that you have said, you can’t be judge, jury and executioner. It’s for that very purpose we have laws and officials to dispense justice. Just Let Go, no amount of ranting will change that. Just Let Go.
