UWP welcomes ‘excellent addition’ in Paix Bouche

An attorney who will be contesting the Paix Bouche Constituency for the United Workers Party has been described as an “excellent addition to UWP Team Dominica” by party leader, Lennox Linton.

Eunica Anthony-Victor, who is based in Antigua, will be returning to Dominica to contest the seat, the UWP has confirmed.

“The selection is creating a lot of excitement in the constituency because all of a sudden Paix Bouche is seeing a new way forward,” Linton said. “Paix Bouche is seeing a light at the end of the tunnel in which the Labour Party has plunged this country in the last ten years.”

Anthony-Victor has worked as an attorney in the attorney general’s chambers in Dominica and has been assigned as officer-in-charge at the legal aid clinic. She has been employed at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank in St. Kitts with an assignment at the Eastern Caribbean Securities Commission. She has also been involved in private practice in Antigua.

She told state-owned DBS Radio that she decided to contest the next general election “after a long soul searching.”

“I decided to participate in this year’s election because of my desire to see my people do better,” she said.

The attorney pointed out that she was not raised by her parents only but by the entire community of Paix Bouche. “I think I have reached a stage in my life that I can give back,” she noted.

Anthony-Victor described herself as not being a ‘party loyalist’ but her desire is to contribute to the community.

“So I did a critical analysis of each party and I feel that I will be better able to contribute with Team Dominica,” she said.

At this point it is unknown who will be Anthony-Victor’s opponent in the constituency since the current MP, Matthew Walter, has indicated he will not be contesting the next general election.

The Paix Bouche constituency consists of the communities of Paix Bouche, Anse de Mai, Calibishie and Hampstead.

You had freedom we what change so we voted workers we want then labour now we are desperate for change. Then what it’s just a cycle . Vote wisely not braggers or a bunch of people with Status. Their bread butter already. Hmmmm just saying.

Hats off to Lennox Linton ….A so called uneducated, novice politician, who is able to attract a very strong team of intelligent and dynamic leaders. This shows without a doubt that you are a great leader and gives us confidence to vote for the UWP. You have given us hope for a brighter future. Change is a must…Not an Option!!!

I will be on the ground to campaign with you Eunica. I am from the constituency and I can state in no uncertain terms this is the first time I see young men peddling drugs like that, walking hopelessly, mothers with no way out, young people out of school, not a job in site, sports at an all time low. This constituency has experienced an unprecedented level of despair. Current parl rep is totally out of touch, but I can’t blame him too much, the people voted for Roosevelt Skerrit.

One too many of our young men are getting lost at sea at nights on these so-called nightly fishing expeditions.

We need jobs for our young people, agriculture needs a revival, we need our sports facilities so our young men and women can engage in positive activities and can also develop their sporting skills. This constituency is dead and we are looking forward to a resurrection.

Stay above fray, don’t get involved in personality and mudslinging. Get your message across.

    Change is a must…..how long…not long….change soon come!!!

No one can deny that the Labour party has failed the people of Paix Bouche . I do not think at this stage anyone can do anything to change that. Mr. Walter should be ashamed that after twenty years of his representation the people of Paix-Bouche are so disgruntled. This should have been an easy win for the labour party and persons like Eunica should not have to feel that she has an obligation to help the people of Paix Bouche. If Mr. Walter and the Labour party had done their work this could have been avoided. Now people of Paix-Bouche remember that both women are from Paix-Bouche so please be careful what you say about any one of them. You have a right to vote for any one of them . Try not to get personal ,irrespective of their political affiliation they are both prominent WOMEN OF PAIX BOUCHE

Paix-Bouche has 2 great candidates. Roslyn Paul and Eunica Anthony. That speaks volume about the village. We need to aware that there were other great and relatively young candidates from that village of Paix-Bouche willing to run like Marttan, Sharone, Paul-Role, and Wallise. They would all do well.

What I find amazing is that Ms Paul the biggest opponent of DLP is now the candidate and Ms Anthony the biggest labourite in the village is now on a UWP ticket.

UWP be careful. Ms Anthony is labour in heart. DLP be careful. Ms Paul is not labour in heart.

Trut is DLP will win that seat. Ms Anthony may lose her deposite unless she decides to stay in the country and campaign. People from Calibishie and Bense need to no what she looks like.

Lets not fool ourselves, lawyers are not always the best choice for our political arena. They are the biggest problem. Think of America. lawyers create more problem for people who voted them in office than solving. We all remember the Dame Eugenia Charles, right? One of our smartest lawyer. Did you see the condition of our country after she left office? (BTW may her soul RIP). Not because someone is a lawyer means that they are going to be a good representative.

    March 28, 2014

Very good move Eunica. I wish you best of luck. All indications are pointing to a race between you and Roselyn Paul which makes it exciting. I have known Roselyn all of my life and no doubt she is a wonderful person. She is a hard working, community person, a laborite throughout and single mother (that I am concerned about if she gets elected and becomes part of the very corrupt team, in every aspect of the word). Here is my problem with her: As a poto labor and very good friend of both Skerrit and the outgoing parlrep , she will agree with me that Mr. Walter did absolutely nothing for Paix Bouche and she knows Matthew would not get anything from Skerrit. With she being close to both men and was always seen as the future replacement I cannot understand why she could not be a bridge between the two for the sake of the community and her personal platform to get Skerrit do something for the community. When you look at the road where her house is in Teteplat which is part of the constituency and the home of several villagers, not even that she could get cleaned let alone drainage and repaired. Those were done by the UWP. Furthermore, her house is less than half a mile from the “Wire”, which was the village cricket and sports ground. We lost that and our young boys and girls don’t have a place to recreate themselves. She, Matthew and Skerrit did nothing to save it for the community. As we speak the area is being sold for $1.50 a sq. ft. to farmers and not even that they could secure for us. So if after 15 years of pure crap she could not use her influence to help Skerrit and Matthew do something for a very faithful DLP stronghold, why then should I and anyone with any sense of pride vote for her and that same DLP. Although we never voted and supported UWP during their 4.5 term, we must never forget that the only reason we have a community building in Paix Bouche is because of the UWP. So yes, if Paix Bouche constituency wants to continue to vote for love of party then we can count ourselves as another five years of political failure; but if we want to change our fortune, we MUST vote for Change and Eunica is the only one that represents change in this contest since Roselyn clearly represents the same old under a different name.

Welcome Home to all the UWP proposed candidates.

Prime Minister Skerrit and his Labour Administration have done something real nice, all can see, where Dominicans at home and abroad are proud and want to come back home, people are no longer leaving they are coming home. Isn’t that wonderful?

Everyone wants a pie slice. Dominica is sweet everyone want to come back and be in government. Something that is not possible to achieve anywhere else come home sons and daughters and stay a while even when the voters say is Labour we want.

Don’t think to run back, please, plan to stay a long while and let us get to know you and maybe next time we will consider you as being in our nation’s parliament.

There is plenty all can do to help our country and not necessary in government. There is so much still to be done. The DLP is doing and excellent job but we are a growing developing country. We all know Dominica is on the envy side and everyone have wishes; so come home sons and daughter to our gem beyond compare.

And please, thank God on bestowing Prime Minister Skeritt and his Administration on us.

We welcome every son and daughter no matter where you are presently. 09:54 AM, We are happy that Dominicans want to come back home. Isn’t that telling us everything?

people the issue is not paix bouche is a labour seat , we the labouites are tired. things are bad , walter has done nothing for his tenure in fact there is little respect from skerrit for this man though in fact personally he might not be all that bad but he is a lousy polititian. now miss roselyn i have heard of her, the fact shes choosing a possible labour ticket just shows that she is not well intended for my area . the lady is most likely getting her mortgage paid. those saying shes loosing her deposit might just think again i know many who wont vote labour and many who just wont vote in the area at all. she has my vote and family and personally i dont know her however i know her family grand father per exact.

Indeed, Eunica is a great addition to the UWP. We as Dominicans and in particular people from the Paix-Bouche constituency should be proud of this young lady for a tremendous decision to represent her people. She is uniquely qualified and certainly has the discipline to be a humble representative. Leaders are not born instead they grow with humility. This is a game changer and Paix-Bouche will be the deciding factor. Let us embrace change and recognize that it only “We The People” who can bring change with honest candidates. My advice to you Eunica is to work the youths of the constituency and the elders will follow. Paix-Bouche is in play and you can certainly win that seat.. Let your slogan be “Embrace Unity for the way of progress!”

I am all out for women from my country to step up the plate in our election. My concern is the selections we are making of people who have not work in Dominica for along time and have not done much community service and who people from the constituent really know. We want to win the next election. Its all good to want to come back to give back, but to jump right into contest a general election seat, People want to know who they are voting for. That is my concern with the decisions making.

What you should be concerned about is when foreigners like Charles Wong can come from nowhere and just jump into a $96,000.00 dollar job, along with housing and transportation and I guess tax free, that was never advertised to the public. The Dominican born and bread Dominicans you referring to are simply coming to apply for a job since making themselves available to contest an election does not guarantee them a job although I hope we use commonsense and hire/elect them.

You should also be seriously concerned about Lauren Bannis, that we pay a salary to in the USVI for nothing to show that she is employed by us. People like Dr. Fontaine and Ms. Johnson-Victor are not paid by us, were not given any incentive to come to Dominica and are taking NOTHING from us. They just simply want to come and help us with the experience they gained abroad which the entire world is craving for.

Eunica is a wonderful choice of Candidate and I commend the UWP for selecting her. I have known Eunica all my life and I can attest that she is a hard worker, very caring, creative and extremely creative. She is very humble and I know that thos decision is one made only because for her desire for change and to see her people be the best she can be. It is high time that we stop voting for party and start electing persons that instill some form of development and advancement. I believe living overseas can be beneficial to persons on government as they have seen abd experienced another form of development. Go foreward Eunica and represent the people of the Paix Bouche constituency. Represent our talented and warm people. Change is on its way and I am sure to hop on the train.

However, here is what I don’t like: I hate what my PM did. Folks politics is no longer is LABAR my family voted, is LABAR I voting till I die… and I am so encouraged to see that individuals can be unafraid to come forward and dare to make a difference. Isn’t this what democracy is about? Isn’t this what our parents and communities expect of us? It ‘s high time debates and service to people bar is raised. It is high time we have people who can articulate positions represent us, instead of posting people in ministerial jobs whose only claim to fame is giving maypuis, rum, top-up and KFC. Mr. Linton is a very educated man. Do you think you have to go to a university to be an educated man? I mean seriously speaking? Do you? We go to school and we ready books and take several tests to gain knowledge. I have listened to Lennox, the guy is full of knowledge. While I may know more engineering stuff, I can bet you that any other Dominicans could not beat Lennox in what he has been doing as a journalist. Stop thinking that is only formal education that makes a man educated. I wonder if people like Marcus Garvey had a degree? What about people like George Washington? What about Bill Gates? I wonder if the PM read more books than Linton. Bottom line is, Lennox is a very educated man. Put that in your pipe and smoke it! :)

Ladies and gentlemen of the Paix Bouche constituency and the entire citizenry of Dominica; I would like state unequivocally that this is the best decision taken on behalf of the Paix Bouche constituency in the last 25 years. The individual chosen, Mrs. Eunica Anthony-Victor is an astute, qualified and assiduous young professional. There are no contradictions about that!!!!

She has demonstrated great skill and capacity during the execution of all her duties within Dominica and the wider region.

With the current void in effective representation at the constituency level and the precipitous decline of all economic sectors within our constituency, the emergence of a young leader, the likes of Mrs. Anthony-Victor is truly a blessing.

This demonstrates that there are still young leaders who are motivated make a difference, who refuse to accept the status quo and who are willing to offer their skills and competencies in service to their community for the economic emancipation of their fellow citizens.

Ladies and gentlemen, this commitment is one that has completely eluded those who are currently in charge of our affairs …….soooooo, its time for change!!!!!

I would like to make it fundamentally clear that we will be supporting Mrs. Eunica Anthony-Victor for change!!!!!!!

If this is the Malcolm X I know; and I think it is, you are rather ungrateful and have a selective memory when you speak of the Parl. Rep. for Paix-Bouche in those terms. You seem to forget that when you were an unlearnt; hard headed, little boy who first arrived in this constituency your mind was built and sharpened by this same Parl. Rep. in afternoon classes. Free. On his private time. Its a shame that your education has allowed for a lapse of memory where it relates to your formative years.

Although I have no issues with Unica, who I must confess is a dear friend of mine, and do applaud her on this, a bold move, I detest ungratefulness in all forms.

@ hmmmm. First of all mr. Walters was a paid government teacher so afternoon classes were not free.
Secondly education is the key to Freedom and an individual who learns well will be free from economic, mental psycological and other forms of slavery. Malcom X endorsement if unica despite your claims is a form of intellectual maturity that is required in dominica during election. In laymans terms: your parents took care of you when you were growing up and made dicisions for you. When you are grown you move out and make your own even if it is against your parents wishes. However you still respect them.
Unica I applaud you and will have my full support and that of the people of bense and calibishi. Hopefully more of us can make decisions on what is right for our country. I am no party loyalist but understand the status quo is unsustainable and will ultimately be doom for our children. Change is essential.

@shaka Zulu…The classes are not for free when it is after working hours. What country are you from? And the argument had nothing to do with the ability to think independently; I applaud the same. The argument was to stress that when one has done you good it is better to stay silent than to talk him/her down. Which is what Mr. X was manifesting. The argument was contingent upon ungratefulness. You seem to have really missed the point.

Very well said @shaka Zulu. That’s our biggest problem in Dominica because somehow we feel because someone helped us in life we owe them a vote. We just simply need to grow up. My Parents worked very hard to feed us give us an education. While I shall forever cherish , love, and respect them no matter my status in life, I still had to make decisions they did not like at times. Example, I grew up going to the Catholic Church with them every Sunday. But when my desire to know God increased I left the Catholic church and became part of a Christian Church. I still respect them and respect their religion but I had to plan for my own future. So I find hmmmmmm maypwee was quite inappropriate especially because I believe I know that person since she too was a former teacher with Matthew

So PM is on a move to shut up a lot of people via the Red Clinic. I see. Well the Bible says the borrower is slave to the lender – I suppose I can substitute giver that also. And by the way government money is the people’s money eh – they not doing us any favor when they give us.
So you are telling me that some of the students I stayed back and help while I was a teacher should all support me if I decide to go up for election? @ hmmm i was not going to respond but after second thought i realize there may be many who think like you. First of all if you decide to help someone just because you care your reward should be the happiness to see them grow up with bright future. This is the mindset our leader preys upon why he runs an inflated social program so people like you should feel greatfull and keep voting for him even if for every cookie he gives he keeps two for himself. MX called no names and is bright enough to be an independent thinker. After 36 years of indepence we have matured into adulthood as a country and so to should our mentality.
It is ok to disagree with eunica and MX opinion, however you should back it up with sound reasoning not reproach and a house slave mentality. I hope you understand and those who may think like you understand

Malcolm X that got the most educational help from the Labour party in Paix Bouche….where is he right now? All now his sister on labour party scholarship too…ungrateful. Sometimes it is better to stay silent

      • PEACE ADVOCATE
        March 30, 2014

Malcolm owes allegiance to the parl rep for doing what he was paid to do? Give me a break here. Governance concerns the state’s ability to serve its citizens. It refers to the rules, processes, and behavior by which interests are articulated, resources are managed, and power is exercised in society. Governance is a practical concept relating to the basic aspects of the functioning of any society and political and social system. It can be described as a basic measure of the stability and performance of a society. If Malcolm thinks the parl rep no longer can perform or failed to perform his duties he reserves the right to speck up freely about it. Its utter rubbish to say what you said about he being thought at school by the parl rep…. he was bond by the law to teach whoever child attended his class and more specifically if that child needed much desired attention.

      • PEACE ADVOCATE
        March 30, 2014

I guess that’s what he told you so you are just putting down those words for him…. I heard those exact words before when MX was in disagreements with somethings the parl rep said and did. So really am not surprised. Carry on…….

      March 27, 2014

      @hmmmmmm,
Let’s do away with this pit latrine politics. I know you to be better and smarter than that. MX said nothing to get this kind of maypwee from you. If Matthew helped him as a then good for Matthew. But because a teacher helped a student in school does not mean the student owes him a vote. In fact teachers are paid to help children succeed. By the way how are you certain that MX did not pay him back by voting for him in previous election? Does he owe him a vote for life? We all know Matthew to be a good person but being a nice person does not make you a good politician and we all know that he failed as a politician. Is it his fault he did not succeed? Maybe not. We all know that he was never like by the PM and Skerrit would never do anything to help Matthew succeed. Matthew should have realized that much sooner.

Roy Williams , your wish of pain to an other person will not come true . You and the new uwp are so hateful now, Dominicans will soon see through this cloud of hatred, so what will you all do with a 21 to 0 defeat. You guys are extremely poor losers .
Remember they sang “SANGKEY” for the labour party , BUT the DLP has a record for the youngest PM in the world with a 18 to 3 electoral victory. Remember when Edward Scobie wrote 10 to1 is murder to celebrate a Labour Party victory. Only the DLP will be celebrating a diamond jubilee in Dominica’s history . They just love to set records. Can you dig! You want more records. —–State house , state college , stadium, independence ,social security , national bank, Roseau market. and the list goes on. If I had to continue I would run out of space.

Now we should investigate any new politicians who trying to seek for office in Dominica especially if they resided in overseas for years, We’re not gonna be fooled again as P.M, Mr. Jean did, because I strongly believe these folks are dual citizens.

    • March 27, 2014

The DLP will presumably do opposition research, but I would be surprised to find dual citizenship in this particular case, since she was just over in Antigua and not somewhere like the U.S. or Canada.

      • The Baptiste
        March 27, 2014

Steve Foerster, Are you a Dominican, and/or a commonwealth citizen? The last time I checked Canada was a member of the commonwealth, and if my memory serves me right, commonwealth citizens are not prohibited from becoming members of parliament in Dominica as long as they meet the residency requirement.

I agree that everyone seeking office should follow the Law of the land, irrespective of party.
We cannot have another skerrit situation, so as I welcome the latest addition to Team Dominica let us hope that as a legal person everything is above board, so good point “Bypartisan”.

      • Papa Dom
        March 27, 2014

Very good move…the prospective labour person a woman is pretty much bringing a stale mate to the constituency, keeping the folks there in a small mind frame and contented to be yard birds….

i think the Team Dominica’s choice is a far better choice, she thinks Bigger, Wider and Better.

Her family will have a impact on that area too…Rally around Mrs. Victor!

  64. March 27, 2014

P.M already get away with he’s french passport also Mr.Peter St.Jean now we need to investigate any new Politicians trying to contest any seat in Dominica, I strongly believe these folks are dual citizens.

    • Leanna
      March 27, 2014

Educate yourself. If she has dual citizenship from another CARICOM island she still game mal potanse, but she doesn’t have any and I know that for a fact. What else you have? Go ask Skerrit and Petter for their French/European passports

    • koolqueen
      March 28, 2014

which folk are you talking about? cause this woman only recently started working in anu like two years ago.To my understanding you have to be living and working in anu for 7years to become a citizen. subjected to correction. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that she has dual citizenship.

It is because God is in control. The man is eloquent. loves his country, hates injustice and malice and is fearless. No one is falling from the sky. No, we have always been there. Born and bred Dominicans. Do you know how many Dominicans live abroad and follow the politics. We listen to the radio and read DNO. Plus we have relatives in DA. We are very much there. We just live over here.
