Dominicans are being promised an exciting Carnival opening in the north of the island today.
The activity, organized by the Northern Festivals Committee, will begin at 3:00 pm.
“Portsmouth happens to be one of the premiere Carnival openings in the sense that, it’s so spontaneous…,” MP for the Portsmouth Constituency, Ian Douglas said during a live interview on state-owned Radio DBS on Saturday night. “People can just come down and have a good time and enjoy themselves.”
He continued, “It’s going to be a grand affair as it has been and we have just been growing in numbers…I think right now, we have established ourselves as the biggest street party in Dominica during the Carnival season.”
He said over the past years, the committees have been giving the patrons an entertainment presentation.
“So far we have given the patrons what they have been looking forward for, for the opening of Carnival,” Douglas stated.
Several costume groups from around Dominica are expected to form part of the opening, including the Mahaut Lapo Kabwit, Sugar Fire Lapo Kabwit from Marigot, Sensay groups, Bwa Bwa and cheerleaders, among other groups.
Opening of which CARNIVAL… Pure embarrassment. Shame on the organizers, and some participants who acted hooligan
Well all you have to do is come and catch some crabs to and make your richness to; see you and your bag in the swamp!!!

“… what they have been looking forward for…?” Dude, really? This coming from a minister of parliament.
I am very disappointed in mister Ian Douglas the parlrep for no even mentioning WCK name cause that’s what everybody go to Portsmouth for,i would like him to remove the WCK band one year and see if people will come to Portsmouth.
U guys can’t fix the Rodney street from since last election which is the main root for the band and mas players and u talking about people must come down and enjoy themselves. Shame on u Ian.only Portsmouth people u all can do that to.
Carnival in possie is very important today especially when one takes into consideration the fact that possie is The Only Crab catching community in Dominica, where one can born poor, raise poor but some how become a millionaire through catching crab. It’s a shame that crab catching lifeline has not been passed unto other poor laborites in Possie. Hope we get some good Calypso from Portsmouth about how we can catch crab and build villas
