The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), has advised the public to be on the alert for counterfeit EC Currency notes, particularly during this time of heightened regional festivities. Vigilance should be exercised when conducting cash transactions to ensure the authenticity of notes.
The ECCB, in a release, calls on members of the public to exercise vigilance when conducting cash transactions to ensure the authenticity of notes.
According to the release, counterfeit notes do not have any value and it is a criminal offence to pass them on. The Bank advises that any suspicious looking note should be taken to the ECCB Headquarters, any of the ECCB Agency Offices or the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) within the various ECCB territories for assessment.
The features of authentic EC Currency notes are outlined on the ‘Take Note of Your EC Notes’ posters available on the Bank’s website – www.eccb-centralbank.org. Additional information on the subject of counterfeit notes can also be accessed via the Bank’s YouTube Channel and Facebook Page – ECCB Connects.
Generally those counterfeit notes are in big denominations as $100, $50 and $20.
A few years ago a man was passing counterfeit notes in Dominica, as reported on DNO. If I recall he tried using it at a gasoline station and to rent a car. He was caught. He was from the US.
I thought Dominica had some sort of machine, especially the bigger businesses which could detect these counterfeit notes, be they $US.
I do not think it is as easy as it were to make Canadian counterfeit notes. Have anyone of you who do not reside in Canada seen a $100, $50, $20, $5 bills? They are thin. I call them weird looking bills. You have to be careful that they do not get stuck or two together when using them to pay.
Hope none of the counterfeit EC currency do not show up in Dominica.
A few yrs ago a minister (then) brought stipens in $US to Cuba to D/can students.
Yrs later, the sort of countryband passport sales ( which began under Mamo was augmented by the UPs.I personally a lawyer/politian from the west coast who walked around with $100 bills in his shirt pocket that was passport early agents. Those agents of Mamo days some are dead some are now Neo-DLPs. Some of those political transplants now controlling authenic DLP have taken the Passport countryband to the next level. The leader & new chairperson of the ECCU was belching bubbles a few weeks ago. Now the region has a counterfeit issue isn’t this getting too messed -up?
I just get paid all my hundred dollars maybe fake and i have to give my daughter $600.00 off it to pay her colege fee hahahahaaa what if all is fake hahahaaaa
As if we doh have enough problems… #DACURSE
“The Bank advises that any suspicious looking note should be taken to the ECCB Headquarters.” I’M NO EXPERT IN THE DETECTION OF “SUSPICIOUS” CURRENCY. MONEY CHANGES HAND FASTER THAN THE BACKWASH OF THE WAVES – WHO’S GOING TO PAY ME TO LOOKOUT FOR FAKE MONEY? AND IS THERE A REWARD FOR PROVIDING SUCH INFORMATION? chuupes
Where de POLICE now with advice educating the public on what to look for , the most likely way to identify fake notes ?
Where de POLICE now to educate the public on the various offences related to handling fake currency.
How many of us know whether we are the counterfeiters or not , the facilitators of exchanging fake currency is an offense , saying ”i didn’t know it was fake isn’t good enough, or rather shouldn’t be ; but again with Da anyfing is anyfing.
