PWC to be restructured

Pinard said the PWC must be sustainable

Public Works Minister, Ian Pinard, says government plans to restructure the operations at the Public Works Corporation (PWC).

Reports indicate that the Corporation has been experiencing cash flow problems over the past few years causing staff to stage protest actions.

Staff has also raised complaints recently stating that they were not paid for several weeks.

“The whole plan is the restructuring of the Corporation,” Pinard stated.

He explained that restructuring will include “everything from staffing to the economics” in order to make the PWC a sustainable company.

“And in other to do that, we have to look at the overall management, the overall establishment in terms of restructuring ….. So we are hoping to have an answer very soon,” Pinard explained.

He stated that a document sent by the management and board of the Corporation has been reviewed and they are expected to receive an answer from government soon.

“We have discussed it in length, the ministry and the board and management we have decided what we want to do and the plan we want to take forward, and the plan is to take it to government and get approval for it,” Pinard said.

@Alas: You sound so silly. PWC employees are playing too much politics with themselves.
During the last election there were employees caring their big red flag while they suffer.
Alas- Did you say anything to them?
If and only when the employees consider themselves first and not politicians the place will not go anywhere.
i do not feel sorry for you guys!

What makes Ian Pinard qualify for this job?

What makes you “qualified” to question his qualifications? Can’t even write proper English. Jerk!

I have great difficulty in making sense of this story. Either DNO has written a bad piece or the Minister is showing his incompetence with some glib and contrary statements. Who is actually making the suggestion of restructuring? I think it more likely that it is the management who see the need to restructure in the hope that they might secure some government contracts to be able to pay staff on time and the government is now trying to take credit.

Labour could learn a lot from the old proverb, “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it”! What was wrong with the Public Works Department (PWD) when Labour came into government 15 years ago. PWD served Dominica well during its existence. There was no problem. Labour created PWC and is one torry after another since then, and now look another restructuring! They did the same thing with Dominica’s education system; remove vocational training, now bring back vocational training! But Dominicans do not care they keep voting these incompetent clowns over and over to repeat the same mistakes! The broken things in Dominica like Agriculture and Health never seem to get fixed though!

This government made a big mistake by closing down road maintenance. That’s where our less financial able persons would get a job. Government should not look at road works solely at profit and loss they should also look at the people who benefit through the employment of road maintenance. I observe during the election campaign the opposition never mentioned road maintenance as part of their five hundred jobs. Road maintenance is a good way of creating employment. The abandoned offices at Laplaine, Layou, Portsmouth and Roseau should be reopened. You cannot have a man with his family at Laplaine or m arigot going to grandbay or Scots Head using their vehicle you not paying them and convince me that economically it is better than having those people working in their areas.

Why don’t you just re-name the whole thing “DLP Boblo Ministry” things getting real hard for your supporters that you are now forced to find another place where these greedy Labourites can continue to pilfer away at the Govt. coffers; the Red Clinic has gotten too small.

PWC needs better equipment and bigger projects like its competitors.
PWC need go manage itself and not micro-manage by the ministers.
Three years ago minister Blackmoore said all he is waiting for was the business plan ,he got it and nothing happen. Mr Pinard I hope this is not a Talk Shop!
    Best of luck PWC!

  10. Hello?
    March 24, 2015

Is it not let the government workers do government work and let the JOB FOR THE BOYS,,be now terminated ..what is the reason for outside contractors getting jobs suitable to government workers ?
except of course the usual $$$$ for the boys .so public workers cannot paid because jobs from ministry goes to pals of ministry
    is it not so ?

public works needs to get a piece of the pie too, not just the crumbs!!

I am very curious. I didn’t expect the PWD to be where it is still. What about the hotel that the DLP said would have been built at the location? Where are the investors involved in that? Have Dominicans learnt a lesson thus far? I really do feel the pain. How long will Dominicans allowed themselves to be fooled by DLP? Gladly even those who voted for the DLP are feeling the squeeze to. Children who won’t hear will feel. Maybe, on the other hand, I am speaking too quickly since Skerrit and a bunch of “goons” have gone in search investment or next months salary and to sell a few of Dominica’s passports.

How much more lies and lying will there be. More of the same old weed in a different wrapper. When it is convinient to do so they give us the impression that they have nothing to do with the failing Public Works and other times they indicate otherwise -they have authority over public works. But we know that public works is nothing but an arm of the Labor Party government Operatives
Does the restructuring effort include discarding the board of directors. Does it mean that the corporation will no longer be at the mercy of greedy politicians In government. I know whst I am talking about

  14. alas
    March 24, 2015

    I’m confused.
Management never stood up with the workers in defense of right to be paid by the government.
I always had and still have de impression that management abandoned workers.
Only mr letang has been standing up publicly in support of PWC employees especially when it comes to issue of salary.
    Restructure what!!
De Chinese Hotel propaganda dat Skerrit was talking of on de political platform last election was just talk to fool us into voting labor?
I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT DE CHINESE HOTEL!
    Bunch of liars!
I knew you at school Ian….such a disappointment.
How can you be restructuring PWC when we were told that drawings are in the works for a CHINESE HOTEL on dat very same property.
No Chinese Hotel going on the Public Works going on dat property during this 5y
    5 year administration!
    You all talk to much.
    Talk and no action.
