A Caribbean Community (Caricom) delegation headed by Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit arrived here yesterday for talks with Haitian officials following the widespread destruction caused by Hurricane Matthew when it tore through the French-speaking Caricom nation last week.

The storm, regarded as one of the strongest to hit the Caribbean in the past decade, was blamed for more than 900 deaths.

Skerrit, who is also the Caricom Chairman, spoke with the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) after receiving a short briefing from the team of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) that had arrived here over the last weekend.

He said the delegation received a number of recommendations from the CDEMA team, including getting aid quickly and directly to the affected communities, of Les Cayes and Jeremie, instead of having it go through Port-au-Prince, which slows down the process.

Every disaster, (be it in developed countries or in third world countries) has always turned into a CA$H COW for politicians. When the relief arrives, who first gets their share? The poor and needy? No no no no no!!!!! it’s always the BOBOL PEOPLE.

Yes please do whatever we can for them even show them how to do for themselves. But please please do not accept any Haitian refugees in DA! You will gradually see DA turning into Haiti if you do that! they have to workout their issues as a country before they run elsewhere.

DNO, the condition in Haiti is very bad and the people are in dire need of help. However, I don’t see the necessity to talk about Skerrit trip to Haiti while Tony Astaphan, his voice, is on radio accusing the opposition and their friends of bringing in 12 guns and ammunition. DNO, I think U should put this one out immediately because it is very serious for national security, days before a major festival. Mr. Skerrit needs to answer the following questions:
    1. If the US informed Dominica of those weapons that left the US to Dominica, y did the authorities not wait for the person to clear the BLUE barrel according to Tony, before the police leaked it out?
    2. Since the barrel came from the US and the US authorities tipped Dominica, I am certain that the US knows who shipped and who bought those guns. Y not get info from them?
    3. Tony was in Dominica two days before that information leaked so y did they not get his legal advise before they did anything? Y wait till Tony left to talk

    Another PR stunt.

BEFORE ANY OF OUR TAX MONEY IS SPENT TO ‘HELP’ HAITI, WE WANT TO SEE FULL PICTURES FROM LOCALS OF THE EXTENT TO THE DAMAGE. WE ALSO WANT AUDITED ACCOUNTS FOR ALL TAX MONEY USED TO AID HAITI.
