Chavez to seek re-election next year

Chavez

Despite a much publicised battle with cancer, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is insisting he will be running for re-election next year.

Speaking on state TV, Mr. Chavez revealed that he expects to shortly have a fourth and final round of chemotherapy for cancer.

He said if tests show no more malignant cells, he will then move to his next stage of recovery, including more exercise.

President Chavez has also said he will be well enough to host a regional summit on December 2.

He said he will be making use of the technology and resources not available in 1998, when he was first elected.

The Venezuelan President further declared that he will be using telephone and the social media to get his message across.

The National Electoral Commission is due to set the date of next year’s election, expected to be held in December.

In June, President Chavez had surgery in Cuba to remove a tumour from his pelvic region and has had three rounds of chemotherapy since.

Chavez made changes to the Constitution of Venezuela to allow him to serve more terms in Office than was originally established by the laws.

In Dominica, inspite of consistent cries and pleading to Govt. by many Dominicans for about 7 years now, irrespective of the proposal sent to Govt. by the Independent Electoral Commission requesting money to be able to implement electoral reform, the response has been negative.

The Electoral Commission has the right, as mandated by the Constitution,to request financial help from Govt., and receive such help to do its work better and ensure FREE and FAIR elections.

Is everything alright with our electoral process? If changes are needed, as most on either side of the political divide agree, why would any Govt. interested in true democracy refuse to heed to the proposal by the Commission or listen to the cries of the people? What is wrong in helping the Commission to produce Voter ID cards and clean up the unclean Voters’ List?

It is the Electoral Commission that is responsible to conduct Elections in Dominica. The Electoral Commission should never be influenced or allow itself to be influenced by any political directorate, operatives or anyone. It is supposed to act independently and according to the mandate of the Constitution. Dominicans are concerned that Electoral Reforms, so important in our democratic way of life, is not being given any attention.

Dominicans, of all walks of life, must do all that we can to prevent irregularities, cheating, fraud, bribery and other actions against the electoral laws and in keeping with good democratic principles? if those changes are not made now, sooner rather than later, people will regret in time to come. Believe me. We must combat and stamp out bad election practices which could cause numerous problems in the country.

Electoral Reforms must benefit every Dominican. It is in everybody’s interest, not any one political party or group of people. Electoral reform will ensure that Dominica’s elections will be FREE and FAIR in the future. All over the world people are protesting, demonstrating, marching for better democracy, for elections, for Free and fair elections, for equality, honesty, transparency. accountability, freeedom, and the right to exercise their human rights. What is wrong with Dominica? Are you all seeing the trends in Dominica. Change for the better or be damned.

Chavez changed the Constitution of Venezuela to increase his terms in office. In Dominica, no signs of Electoral reform after about 7 years of pleading, requesting by the Dominican people in general.

The ‘Independent’ Electoral Commission proposed to DLP Govt. for assistance to implement reforms to be made to ensure elections in Dominica are FREE and FAIR. Up to now, not a cent has been received by the Commission to do its work better.

The Electoral Commission requested the provision of VOTER ID CARDS and CLEANING UP the VOTERS” LIST. Isn’t the Voters’ List unclean? Why should, why wouldn’t a Govt. want to quickly put things in place, release the finance to the Commission to clean a list which is bloated with dead people’s names and other people who are inelligible to vote? Doesn’t the Electoral Commission have the Right, given to it, by our Constitution, the Supreme Law of the land, to get help from Govt.? How many of us stop and think for a while about the trends in our country. What could one conclude about future elections if changes needed to be made ARE NOT DONE NOW,NOW, NOW. Irregularities, cheating, disobedience of the electoral laws, unclean voters’ list, bribery are OK and no problem? Time will Tell.

Dominicans must Ensure that the country always has FREE anf FAIR elections and that everyone obey the Constitution. What lessons do we really want to learn? Everywhere in the world now the people: students, farmers, teachers, engineers, public and private sector workers, skilled and unskilled, employed, under-employed, unemployed, are coming together to demand Free and fair elections, freedom, equality, transparency and accountability, respect, trust, truth, integrity, by their leaders.

Election reforms, as proposed by many Dominicans and the Electoral Commission, will benefit all. To avoid problems we must strongly let voices be heard on that issue. The country could be embarking on a dangerous path if a few, through their greed and selfishness, refuse to allow the democratic spirit to shine and people’s rights and the constitution are always respected.

The best first move is to implement Electoral Reforms. Clean Up the bloated Voters’ list and let the Commission provide Voter ID Cards by Govt. giving them the money, the people’ money. The Constitution clearly states that the “Independent” Electoral Commission should not be influenced or allowed to be influenced by any political directorate or anyone. Never again Slavery.

Well when you engage in misdeeds you will not want to be removed or leave your position of cover. So guys like these do their best to stay in for the long haul because they have all their misdeeds to cover and hide and can’t stand to beleive that they would be found out and will have to face consequences. Further the lavish lifestyles they comfort themselves with are hard to let go of. Why give up palaces for 6ft x 6ft iron gate dwelling place?
