Althea Sactliffe Primary School in the British Virgin Islands will now be able to construct a bus stop at the school’s exit with a monetary donation from the Dominican Association.
Assistant Principal of the school Helen Penn received a cheque for $500 from the association’s Vice President Dion Anselm in a simple ceremony held outside the school Wednesday afternoon.
Penn explained to BVI News that the long awaited bus stop will have a shed with benches so that it will be safer for students to wait on their parents or guardians.
“We hope it will be completed by mid-term,” the Principal added.
According to Anselm, the money donated to the school came from a raffle held in December. “We wanted to give something back because the school accommodates us when we have to hold our meetings,” he said.
He also revealed the winners of the raffle. Top prize of a television set went to Joel Matthew; Nigel Niven won a DVD player and Charles Nisbett, a mobile phone.
The association has been in existence for a while, but was dormant for a number of years. However, two years ago it became active again with the committee seeking to empower the lives of Dominicans living in the BVI.
The association’s president is James Simon, Secretary Eleanor Dangleben, Treasurer Norma Casmir and Public Relations Officer Ken Paul.
