Dominica to join CCJ

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says Dominica will join the Trinidad-based Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) as its final court of appeal even as it moves to iron out some constitutional matters affecting the wider Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

“We have indicated publicly several times our commitment to the CCJ. As a matter of fact we took a Cabinet decision in 2005 on the CCJ and we have gone to the Parliament to recognise the court in its original jurisdiction.

“We have indicated publicly the government’s intention of recognising the court in its appellate jurisdiction. Clearly there is a procedure within the Constitution we have to follow. We have to go to the Parliament and get the two-thirds majority…but there is a process of the passage of the amendment,” he said.

I don’t understand why Dominicans are contesting moving from Privy Council? Why do our people love depending on white people?

We’re not saying that the CCJ is perfect or we do not have concerns. We need to confront these concerns as a people and move on.

A closer look at the African countries from whence our roots came, should give you an idea why we prefer the privi council to C C J.

Boy I tell you illiteracy is a real disease plaguing our people.

African countries have gone through the same problem like us, White Supremacy!

You mean for the rest of our lives we have to depend on white people? You really have an inferiority complex. Geez!

The Dual citizenship case in Dominica is a classic case of political interferance, the appointment of judges also has political leanings, the Privi Council judges are are not influenced, by local politicians, this is clearly a better system for us all in the Caribbean, we say no to C C J.

I am certainly NOT in favour of the CCJ. If there is one insland in the Caribbean where the justice system is totally wrong is Waitikubuli or Dominica. In a refarundum, my vote is a big and loud NO! no way!

There are many people who support CCJ now because they believe that it lend supports to this present political status quo.

In thier tiny minds, the barrel of this frankenstien court system will never be pointed at them, only at thier enemies. But time holds no friends and sooner or later that CCJ will bear its venom on them and it will be too late to REGRET.

Maybe the wording of the CCJ is of good intent, like the wording in law,but the interpretation and application thereof may well be a different matter;bear in mind the misdemanor and miscarriage of justice this country has suffered in recent times under the gravel of some of these same “Judges”.

CCJ isnt a Open and Flexiable Legal System for us

Im Highly Against that Institution, they take way too long to dispense Justice..

Prefect Example how weak and sloggish the Justice System is around here and in Dominica..

A State Case with Regards to Dual Citizenship and If the Prime Minister is illegal or not Takes Way Too Long…to be Cleared Up…

Firstly the CCJ has to show the average Caricom Citizen and Dominican atleast that they are Proffessional of the Highest Order and their System is swift Open and not a system where Politics Play are roll or a so cal Snr Counsel Can steer Justice towards a certain Part..

I see the CCJ as and Enhance form of Modern Day Slavery in the Caribbean…well its just well Organised By it co call educated Players on Green, Blue,Black and Red Label Guys with Ties and Briefcases chill at the Bars after Gaining High Does from Poor and uninformed Caribbean Citizens…

CCJ…Definetly Looks like is good for Dominica…surely just endores the slavery concept more on them down there, as they indeed embrace slackness in their justice system in Dominica…

CCJ honestly contributes to alot of weakness thats in our Society in the Region,as their Officals arent above Board and can be easily persauded towards their Judgement by Poor Banana type Policy Makers….what a bunch of Jokers the CCJ are!

Dominicans will continue to be back benchers Period they lack the substance and gull to make a impression at any levels…

Simple folks should have a massive petitions towards a Referendum to the Goverment and also the OCES and CARICOM Heads…

But sadly everyone on the island just calls in too The Talk shows but nothing to show as Progress.

Just look how extremly dull and weak the Citizens Of Dominica are…they care less about their Investments in CLICO..
The folks who reside in Layou and environs are Extremely Delighted to inhale the fums from the Asphalt Plant which will surely endanger their Health down the road and they remain silent while Their own life spans are shorten..
The Unions are way too soft on issues and easily wooled over…so in the end what you expect from a island and its citizens…

Their Regime spin daylight misleading info right On the air with Regards to Issues they remain Silent so what you expect from a island like that.

Once the Prime Minister gets off on the Dual Case Appeal, he will continue to mis inform the Citizens with small talk, manupulate all Institutions on island and the Citizens do what..Remain Silent…

Just look at the incident in Orlando FL with the Kid Who was shot..see how Smart and Heads up Citizens React to make a Point…

Labour Party will regin Power unless someone or grouping has the Guts to make a stance..

Hoping that something will fall from the sky mentality is a pure Joke..

God helps those who helps themselves…
Dominicans are way to laided back in the mindset!

Sums up they will continue to be under achievers and remain alongest High Poverty Lines and High Ignorance Levels!

does the decision to join C C J belong to Roosevelt Skerrit or to the citizens of this country, this is a concern for the people of the country and not the prime minister as an individual, neither is it a decision for cabinet members personally, but cabinet can only give approval after consultation with the people whom they represent. we are looking to see what is the approach.

We want a referendum!!! I think that the majority of Dominicans are against the CCJ.

Does the average Dominican even get a say in the decision making taking place in this country? The type of decisions that will affect not only us but our children and our children’s children?

What the hell type of democracy are we living under in Dominica?!

Didn’t you read that there is a process to be followed including involving the parliament. Isn’t it clearly written? oh, boy Skerrit has some haters. they so bold face, they canot even contemplate their own ignorance of what they read.

One that will soon collapse upon itself and send the island into turmoil because of the government’s selfish, blinding, arrogant ways.
