Guadeloupe mourns the passing of Patrick St. Eloi; burial scheduled for Wednesday

The French Department of Guadeloupe is still in mourning after the passing of one of the island’s favorite artists.

In 2008, the Regional Council of Guadeloupe paid homage, celebrating the 25-year career of Patrick St Eloi with a big concert in the town of Moule.  Just over two years later, the same town will be the burial place of the former lead singer of the popular Zouk band, KASSAV.

The wake will be held at Place de la Liberté (Liberty Square) in the town of Moule Tuesday night and his burial will be on Wednesday September 22.

Since the death of St Eloi was announced Saturday, September 18, the sound of the artist’s music has been echoing from every radio and television station, public transport and individuals’ homes and vehicles around the department, including, Marie Galante and Martinique.

Persons were dressed in white all day Monday and Tuesday as a sign of mourning and solidarity with the family of Patrick St Eloi.

He was 52
