Jamaican PM to tender formal resignation on Sunday

Golding

The transition of leadership of the Government will be completed on Sunday (Oct. 23) when Prime Minister, the Hon. Bruce Golding formally tenders his resignation to the Governor-General and a new Prime Minister is sworn in.

This will take place at a special ceremony at King’s House on Sunday (Oct. 23) commencing at 4.00 p.m.

Mr Golding today presided over his final Cabinet meeting. He used the occasion to thank his Ministers for their support and hard work under his leadership. He noted that the Government had overcome significant challenges over the last four years but emphasized that much remains to be done to accelerate the pace of economic recovery in order to be able to tackle the country’s urgent social needs.

Mr Golding noted, too, that while some elements of the Government’s reform agenda had been completed, other important items are yet to be implemented. These, he said, were at an advanced stage of preparation and urged his colleagues to complete the process as a matter of urgency.

The Prime Minister also thanked the Cabinet Secretary and the staff of the Cabinet Office as well as the Permanent Secretary and staff of the Office of the Prime Minister for their support during his tenure.

After the Cabinet adjourned, Mr Golding convened a meeting of government MPs and received their unanimous formal endorsement of the Hon. Andrew Holness to succeed him as Prime Minister. Mr Golding will convey this advice to the Governor-General and tender his resignation on Sunday afternoon shortly before the ceremony at King’s House.

Why doesn’t our lovely prime minister do the same? There is some level of honor when that is done. There are too many questions surrounding his leadership. Do the honorable thing like Bruce did and step down. I believe you will gain back some honor. Bruce can now hold his head high and be proud once again. Bruce you are a true honorable gentleman. You know when to hold and when to fold.

Do you have the facts surrounding the deoarture of Mr. Bruce Golding from office? Are they the same as in Dominica. Can the Dominican allegations, which is what they are to this day – allegations, stand in a court of law to be tried by judge and jury? By simply repeating an allegation day in and day out make somebody guilty? Remember the Layou River matter with Kieron Pinard Byrne? Remeber how pursuasive the arguments were on radio? Remember the truck loads of available evidence of corruption that was dished out to the Dominbican people? Remeber how haoppy the “journalist” was to be able to go to court to put Pinard Byrne in his place? Final question. What was the outcome. Was there a fifty thousand dollar award to Pinard Byrne? Did the journalist say he had no training or expertise in matters relative to investigating the auditted works of a professdional auditor and accountant. did the journalist say he never interviewed the person he was taking criminal port shots at? Did he agree under oath that he has no formal training in journalism? Well he has appealed the matter. We await the decision of the Appeal’s Court.
