Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, is among regional leaders who will be attending the 34th CARICOM heads of government conference set to get underway in Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday.

This has been confirmed by the Government Information Service (GIS) in Dominica.

The meeting will be officially opened at 6 p.m. at the Diplomatic Centre, in St Ann’s with a flag ceremony and addresses by the twin-island republic’s Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar and several leaders.

A release from the office of the prime minister in Trinidad and Tobago, said during the conference, leaders will participate in the re-enactment of the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas with a ceremony at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre on July 4.

On July 5, the leaders will attend an all-day retreat.

Venezuela’s newly elected President Nicolas Maduro, will be attending the meeting as well as President of Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina and the President of  Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who is the current head of the ACP (African, Caribbean and Pacific) states.

According to the release, the conference ends on July 6 with bilateral talks with Maduro following which Persad-Bissessar and the Caricom Secretary General will host a news conference to reveal what decisions were taken.

Several “burning issues” are to be discussed among the regional leaders including:

1)  The economic situation facing member States and the Region.

2) Transportation in the Region.

3) Proposal for a High Level Meeting on Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs.

4) Membership and Associate Membership of the Caribbean Community.

5) Reform Process in CARICOM – State of Progress.

6) Progress on the region’s preparations for the United States Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act .

7) External Trade Issues.

Well again Haterz .. If he have to go then so it will be when is election. In the meantime and between time let go of your hatred and wait to vote when the time comes. Just saying that hatred might kill you if you do hate too much and you might not vote so be careful and start to shed a little love. To all the haterz who cannot stick to the topic in question and must vent their hatred. Just saying and once more love a little hatred is no good for the faint hearted.

Cuzo does it mean that if u don’t agree with the PM u hate him? That’s how politics has become? May I ask do the PM hate the Opposition Members?

But all you sick with that hatred talk. Isn’t the PM a Head of State? And all this talk about one man who has to do what he has to do and the topic under discussion is “PM to attend CARICOM heads meeting in T&T” so stick to the topic and let us talk about perhaps Caricom and leave the poor man alone to do his stint. Yours will come at the appropriate time OK.

I think you guys are missing an opportunity to help the PM in his “quest” to advance the interest of DA. This is an important meeting, whilst there will cordial handshakes mixed with smiles, the PM must use this opportunity to be bold and state the facts/truths about CARICOM and the disadvantages to DA. Being bold will have to be DA’s counter weight because some players use their size to do what they want with very little regards for DA’s views or actions. The topics on the agenda for attackl are:

    2) Transportation in the Region.
Why is Trinidad subsidising Caribbean Airlines in direct competition with LIAT. How about the UK’s surcharge on flights.

    4) Membership and Associate Membership of the Caribbean Community.

That is questionable!!!!!. It needs reviewing to perhaps include others like Cuba, Haiti, Dominican Republic and so on, in addition to the same “gang”

    5) Reform Process in CARICOM – State of Progress.

Are they still relevant to the 21st century. How about reforming the vanguard

    6) Progress on the region’s preparations for the United States Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act.

The last time I check, we were independent countries/islands. I just hope our actions on this is not detrimental to our economy. The US thinks of itself first and always.

    7) External Trade Issues.
Re-alignment of tariffs maybe. Incentives to help smaller islands.

    FOOD FOR THOUGHT
