Barbados is among five CARICOM territories that are raising red flags within the United States Department of State for their failures to advance further in the fight against human trafficking.
According to the department’s 2012 Trafficking in Person’s Report, which was released on Tuesday (June 19), Barbados, Haiti, Suriname, The Bahamas, and Jamaica are on the “Tier 2 Watch List”. This list is reserved for countries whose governments do not fully comply with the Trafficking Victims Protection Act’s (TVPA) minimum standards, but are making significant efforts to bring themselves into compliance with those standards.
Sad story.
However, isn’t it reassuring that Dominica does not feature? I mean, you would think that with all the recent rumours and accusations, both direct and veiled, pertaining to human trafficking in Dominica and carried out by certain strata of Dominicans(accusations made by that same mischievous and vocal minority), you would expect Dominica to be highlighted in that list. No?
SMH!
I tell you, democracy is under threat in Dominica by a noisy, unscrupulous, and desperate minority that is bent on destabilization and vilification as strategies to gain political power.
does anyone listen to this guy???
PEEP PEEP!!
And the minority will still not suck seed.HAHA.
At least we can breathe a sigh of relief. Thank God –Dominica is not on those lists, not necessarily because it doesn’t take place in Dominica but because it is under effective surveillance and control. The US has provided two new vessels to nip the problem in the bud before the situation were to become out of control. The consequences of being listed are serious as this could have a significant negative impact on a country’s international image, its tourism industry and on its ability to attract foreign investment.
Many members of Congress and high ranking government officials worldwide participate in human trafficking so who are they to talk.
like who? name names. its irresponsible to make a statement liek this without facts to substantiate your piece. must be nice to speak freely without responsibility
Well, interesting story that cmes and hgoes like the hurricane season. Wasn`t Francis Joseph former Director of ChildFund who alerted us of such activities and abuse odf the Carib people and if I recall he went to Martinique to return a child to Carib Territory..It made news , there wa a pres conference and it is my understanding that this activity still goes on….Joseph is gone and I wonder who is taking on this cause for the poor KALINAGO CHILDREN, or has the Chief and his people goe moo moo…
By the way is ChildFund still alive…do not hear any comment on maters of policy and poverty affecting our peole.. Was Joseph silenced..He and the voice of ChildFund is missed.
Sigh what is this uh….oh lord
Well Well Well some Dominicans not easy. Had Dominica been on the list there would not have been enough water in our Rivers to wash down and bash the Government.
well well well its sad that the only way to get an ELECTED governments attention and for them to listen is to BASH them………….
