St. Kitts records four murders in four days

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Friday August 19, 2011 – Police have blamed an influx of illegal firearms for an upsurge in murders in the twin-island federation, while the business community says that whatever the cause the crime situation is now at a “crisis point”, following the fourth murder in four days.

The most recent victim this week was Leon Thompson who was shot dead in Buckley’s Village shortly on Wednesday, after a candlelight vigil was held for another murder victim, David Thomas. Thomas was killed in the same area in the early hours of Sunday.

Thompson’s death brings to 26 the number of murders for the year, just one less than the record high in 2009.

This is a serious matter. St. Kitts is a smaller country than Dominica. Imagine four murders in four days; one too many for any country.
There are some people of this era who do not possess love in their heart and do respect precious lives.
As I have asked, how did those guns get to St. Kitts as in other islands? Lax airport and immigration security searches. They do have themselves to blame for allowing those guns into the island, either by air or sea. A price has to be paid for this which entails robbery with guns and loss of lives and robbery with guns. It is time for the government of those islands to do something about this.
Murderers are godless and gutless people. They want to live and will not allow others their right to live. They act as if they are God and take lives. They are in dire need of God’s blessing and graces. They better beware that in God’s time they will pay an eternal price for their evil actions. It may come sooner than they expect.
Inspired by the Holy Spirit, St. Paul has told us, “No murderer will enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” This also includes those who hate others – from the heart. This too is murder.
Our Lord Jesus Christ has taught us: “Love one another as we love ourselves.” You cannot love God whom you do not see and not love others whom you see.
As a holy person stated, “Love of God cannot be separated from love of neighbor.”

What boy!!! Five in five days. We must pray for St Kitts. They need to bring in the RSS now. If the Kittians have too much pride in seeking assistance, then the OECS and Caricom should do something before its too late. When the gangs finish killing off the gang members, who next??? Dougie must do something NOW!!!

Today Saturday, and another murder again. They shot the man in his bed early this morning. I thank God every day for my beautiful country DOMINICA. Some people are trying to bring us down, but we have a good government, resilient Police Force and blessed population. Continue the good work DOMINICA and support your government for continued progress.

Dominica is in now way the worst but we are not the best either. If we sit back and point fingers at who is worst than us we may very well see ourself falling back.

Let’s try to be the best look at who is better than us and strive for their spot.

    August 20, 2011

Dpminicans doh Worry about SKB it is fine. life goes on as usual. The cruise ships are coming. American Ailine, Delta, Eagle, Air Canada, British Airways still coming. People are still out there having a good time. There is no personal income tax like DA. Several major multi-million dollars tourism projects are under construction. Murder is not the biggest crime. I think corruption is much bigger and DA has plenty of that. I love my SKB, we will overcome.

This is a very troubling situation for such a small island and I fear that if the authorities do not seek outside help and act swiftly many more will die. I fully support the call from the opposition leader Mark Brantley to declare a state of emergency and establish a curfew in some of the high crime areas. While the authorities feel that such a move will deter tourists, I am afraid that in the long run the continued bloodshed and nightly burglaries will keep the tourists away permanently. St Kitts was #2 in the world in terms of murder per capita just a couple years ago, I have no doubt that this year they are heading for 1st place. It is pretty disturbing.

I suggest that Dr. St. Jean and his team who put the proposal for peaceful Dominica together that DNO recently posted, should contact the government of St. Kitts and try to help them out. Some of the work that Dr. St. Jean has done in Dominica with the police and the commiunties as well may be able to help. The government of St. Kitts and Nevis may listen to him more than our government because the government of Dominica is may be waiting for Dominica to come like St. Kitts before the take his proposal seriously. I believe that his work is expensive but I know that he does good work since I sat in on three of his workshops. He should at least be open to negotiating prices. That’s my humble openion.
