The Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados has reopened, according to media reports.

A strike by air traffic controllers on Thursday had shut down the airport.

The Nation Online newspaper in Barbados has reported that the controllers are said to be acting in solidarity with their colleagues at the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) who have been on strike since last Wednesday.

Workers at the Bridgetown Port are also off the job in a similar show of support, the Nation Online also reported.

Bajans don’t put up with any nonsense unlike Dominicans. And the Bajan government does not go in with all guns blazing. That is the difference, one island moving forward, the other moving backward. Why are Dominicans contend with mediocrity? Let’s change that mindset, let’s move forward, let’s re-built Dominica.

There was a strike. Not one bullet, stone or tear gas. No need to block any road because someone listened to them. Take note Dominicans. Take note!

May I suggest the Government of Dominica fire half the civil service and replace them with Bajans? Please?

It is quite clear the Bajans are not Dominicans. Barbados have real people.

Air traffic controllers are in solidarity with their colleagues? How does this strike affect them?
These controllers should be suspended or should receive a salary deduction. If they are unionized it may not be considered. They think their jobs are secured and necessary which is why they staged the strike.
Passengers pay enough money to ensure they get a flight on time and arrive at their destination in the stipulated time. You have inconvenienced them.
Make the controllers pay for hotel accommodation and meals for those who are in transit and unable to get a flight out. If they are unionized and have the union’s blessing, the union should bear the cost.
Dominicans should have no empathy for their strike. Put yourself in the place of the passengers. It does not cost LIAT any extra money but it will cost the passengers. These are the people you should be concerned about for you, too, travel even though it is occasionally.

Compare this airport with the CRAP/MAKAK WE we have at Melville hall.Barbados has leaders at all levels. Dominica has men with close ties to Satan,Greedies and corrupt gangsters..This government has had VAT,Petro Caribe,Diplomatic ties with Red China,Venezuela, passport sales,etc..HUNDREDS OF MILLION,BILLIONS of dollars must have been misused and squandered…Any other government with good, prudent and astute leadership,Dominica would have been one of the most advanced countries in the region.INSTEAD MOST DOMINICANS ARE SUCKING SALT…Dominicas biggest shame is not only Melvillehall, but the state of our capital city.It smells PEE SAR,stray dogs roam the broken sidewalks, drains uncovered and daze you with unhealthy odor, streets are strewn with garbage.Every election season SKERRIT assemble his fools at Lagon and show them a picture of a new Roseau. The fools and sycophants clap away while Skerrit laughs at them..NEVER envisaged one man destroying a country in the manner that Dominica has.

What’s the function (s) of the opposition here in Dominica? Can’t they call for some type of demonstration too? I’m ready to hit the road or wherever.

That’s what I call demonstration. I am sure the government will get the point. It’s a sad situation but sometimes drastic measures must be taken to be heard.

Stupid authorities in Barbados. Why not settle this or take appropriate measures before such an important time in the holiday calendar. This sure will help the Barbados tourist industry.

Bajans are is completely different league and class from Dominicans, they are more aggressive towards nation building they have more pride thus their island and institutions are so more advance and above board…

what is here in dominica is a hungry begging mentality, sluggish mindset in the norm of Dominica……

is that…..our $8.000,000.00 investment in that yes sah, so travelers will not be getting meals etc, at a time when liat should demonstrate differently and boast the customer service that retains customers, is another airline that should resurrect to cut liat stripes!

    • Channel 1
      March 24, 2016

@ArayofLight – But how is LIAT you want to hold responsible for the costs of meals & hotel accommodation for affected passengers in this instance nuh?

Is LIAT that caused the strike or is carrying out the strike nuh? Your indignation should be directed towards the air traffic controllers in Barbados whose action have caused the airport to be closed. They are the ones who should meet the costs of meals and hotel accommodations for affected travelers.

        March 25, 2016

@ Channel 1: You don’t realize some people just don’t have the ability to think critically?

It’s like reasoning with a goat.

    • March 24, 2016

Why should LIAT compensate passengers when it is not their fault. It is not even an issue that that affects the workers at the airport they are striking in solidarity.

    • Face the Facts
      March 24, 2016

You should have realized that ever since LIAT decreased and cancelled flights, it no longer pays for hotel accommodation and meals for in transit passengers. It is a good ploy by LIAT, using this as an excuse. LIAT knows what it is up to. Anything to save money and inconvenience passengers which is what it is.

    • Prophet
      March 25, 2016

Your light is too dim, how can LIAT be responsible for that?

    • budman
      March 25, 2016

14 stupid people agreed with Arayofdarkness blaming Liat for not responding to an industrial action in Barbados involving NON-LIAT staff ? as many as 14 people read this and thought a thumbs up was a good idea? really!!?? the stupidity on the DNO forum is tragic. the lack of comprehension and critical thinking shows a faliure of our education system.
