UK Government support for St Vincent and the Grenadines and St Lucia

British high CommissionThe UK will provide EC$1 million for vital emergency humanitarian support to those on St Vincent and the Grenadines and St Lucia affected by the severe rains over the Christmas period.

The UK Government will provide essential drugs and medical supplies as well as water and sanitation equipment in recognition of the impact on health services and the risk of water borne diseases spreading. The support will be delivered through the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) which has expertise and long standing relationships with the Ministries of Health on both islands.

The Rt Hon Alan Duncan, UK Minister of State for International Development, is visiting the region, and is meeting with Prime Ministers from both St Vincent and the Grenadines and St Lucia to discuss the humanitarian situation and reconstruction needs.

Mr Duncan said: “To have suffered loss of life and the destruction of homes has made this Christmas period a wretched time for so many, especially the young and vulnerable.  The British Government is glad to offer support to those in need in both St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines.”

The British support will help:

  • re-establish health services and support the provisions of emergency medical care in the affected areas;
  • ensure access to clean water and sanitation; and
  • implement disease surveillance.

when a person leaves their parents home and become independent he/she should be able to stand on their own, that’s where dominica is

thats really good point and I believe thats the way the Caribbean should follow: once it was decided not to be the part of the UK – you should act independently and not to seek any assistance etc.
Its the funny thing to read: your government borrows huge amounts of money from China etc and you applaud as if it were some sort of achievement….its not any achievement at all. Actually foreign aid makes you poorer. The wealth comes from ability to utilize resources in a clever way and to make money on it. The foreign aid develops the culture of dependence and inability to live with your own means…

DA is big shot; the only caribbean island except Trinidad with a Prime Minister and President and where the Queen of England is not the official head of State. Don’t blame it on Skerritt; he was still in diapers when that decision was taken. Trinidad can stand on their feet even in times of disaster. Can we? Blame the one who wanted to be the first PM at any means necessary.

Are you kidding me? Even if you’re a senior citizen you need to check your fact before you continue to trash Dominica. In your quest to trash Dominica you have forgotten Guyana also has a President.

What exactly has Dominica done to you guys. Think not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country, DOMINICA. These words were spoken by President Kennedy about his country the USA and this saying is still relevant today to the haters of Dominica and Skerrit.

I notice we don’t get no support from the UK. I would like to asked why. even last year for the Queen fifty years of Jubilee. It appears we Dominica country was the only Caribbean Island that was not recognize.
Now here is another perfect example we are left out. from getting help from the UK.

The British government has a duty to those countries because the queen is there head of state. Unlike Dominica, where the queen is not the head of state. So basically we are on our own cause we chose to be that way.

can somebody please explain how the following thing works for the Caribbean: from the one hand some politicians like St Vincent PM as well as majority CARICOM leaders support idea of suing the UK and other old Europe States for the compensation for the slavery. At the same mind the same leaders and their voters do not mind to get some donation, budgetary relief, non-interest bearing loans etc
Don’t you find it to be weird?

Why was Dominica not included, is it because how the Prime Minister boasted on radio what he was going to do, or was it because of his govt. foreign policy?

We are a free nation and our foreign policy seeem to be doing good for us. UK only gave 1 mil for these two countries and the greanadines. Its a drop in the bucket but these countries need much more. Through this global economic recession DA has been doing much better than these countries. look it up for your selves. Good bless DA and it’s friends.

      January 6, 2014

I guess we are only begging when it is Cuba, Venezula and China. It is ok once UK or USA is involved. What hypocrisy! Grow up people! China consistently loaned USA money. It is time we put our political bias aside and be real about what’s going on around us. Let us put DA first and we all will be better off. I for one think that all these politicians are the same. History is there to guide us. It has always been just a change of people in Govt.
