Dominica and other Eastern Caribbean states are told to have no fear as a new United States ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean will be appointed.
Mary Ourisman, held the position until November 2008, after being appointed by then American President George Bush; since then, a new selection for the post of ambassador has not been made.
Head of the political and economic section at the United States Embassy in Barbados David Seckinger, who was recently on the island has assured that United States President Barack Obama will make a selection.
“Ambassadors are appointed by the president so right now we are waiting for President Obama to make his new selection. Unfortunately I have no information on when that will occur,” Seckinger stated.
He has described the post of ambassador as a well sought-after assignment, adding “so I believe President Obama is taking his time in making sure that he selects the right individual to get down here, that will further our relationship with the region.”
the Caribbean don,t pull their weight in the drug trade so a pinch is always good…
That just reflects how low the Caribbean is on the President’s foreign affairs agenda.
No Mr.Seckinger, that just reflects how low the Caribbean is on the President’s foreign affairs agenda.
