DAEC declares November 23 as day of prayer and fasting

The Dominica Association of Evangelical Churches (DAEC) has declared November 23 as a day of prayer and fasting for Dominica as one of its activities as the island prepares for general election.

The organizations says it recognizes the privilege Dominicans have to participate in the electoral process and “as the campaign begins, believers are encouraged to be cognizant of their godly mandate and to ensure that they lead in all areas, in accordance with [1 Timothy 2:2-8].”

“Adult suffrage was secured through the sacrifice of our forefathers, therefore the Church encourages its members to embrace the opportunity and help shape the future of our nation that is afforded through this process,” DAEC said in a release on Friday. “The Association therefore sends a clarion call to believers to conduct themselves in a godly manner during this period. Believers are reminded that we are salt and light and as such everything we do we should seek to bestow grace and give direction.”

It added, “the believing community is also encouraged to spend quality time praying for our country, the candidates, the process; and that the Will of God is done in the land. This election, like previous ones, is being keenly fought and as such we need to pray for a season of peace and non-violence. We ought always to be mindful that the kingdom of darkness will seek to infiltrate the process or may be invited so to do; the Church is therefore called upon to be vigilant and discerning of the devil’s plan and engage in spiritual warfare.”

“Believers are encouraged to organise corporate and community prayer through their local churches or small groups coming together to pray. The Scriptures reminds us that the effectual fervent prayers of the righteous man avail much. The DAEC will organise and communicate a few prayer activities shortly. Churches should feel a sense of responsibility and a sense of national commitment and initiate prayer sessions with their fellow community churches.”

The DAEC is also encouraging political leaders to be wise in their utterances.

“Political parties and candidates are encouraged to be respectful and civil in their speeches and towards each other and cautioned to not take the name of Jehovah God and the Holy Spirit in vain through inferences or direct reference to Jehovah God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, outside of prayers,” the organization said.

“The DAEC is declaring Sunday, November 23, 2014 as a day of prayer and fast on behalf of the Nation,” DAEC stated. “The Executive of the Dominica Association of Evangelical Churches prays that God will reign and override every plan of the evil one and that the peace and stability of our Nation will be maintained. God has given us a Nation to build we should commit to doing so.”

The DAEC other strateges include:
1. Prayer and Fast
2. Community Prayer Walks
3. Early Morning Prayer Walks and Gatherings.

General election will be held in Dominica on December 8.

It is appropriate for Christians to pray and fast, asking that the will of God be done in a coming election whether it is in Canada (my own nation), or Dominica. Who is in a better position to call for a day of prayer and fasting than our church leaders? This is not an endorsement of a particular party. It is a humble recognition of one’s need of Divine wisdom and guidance.

Bishops and pastors have an awesome responsibility. They are God’s watchmen on the wall. They have a mandate from God to blow the trumpet. This means they are to speak out against real and actual corruption in government when there is evidence of corruption. They are to speak for God. No amount of money – no favor – can be allowed to silence them.

On the other hand we as Christians are to honor and obey those who rule over us as God has commanded us in
Romans 13:1-6. This means to obey the laws of our land unless the law is contrary to the law of God. It means to pay our taxes in an honest manner.

The scriptures command us to pray for those in authority who rule over us in 1 Timothy 2:1-3.

As a preacher I cannot tell people who to vote for even in my own nation so I certainly would not tell the people in Dominica who to vote for. But as an evangelist I preach that Christians everywhere should care enough about their country to vote for the candidate who is for the things God is for and against the things God is against. Personally, I want to know where a candidate stands on the moral issues of the day. God will honor a nation that honors Him. Any government that adopts and enshrines in its laws the moral code God has given us in the New Testament is ensuring God’s blessing and Divine protection for the nation.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill, D.D., International Evangelist.

donald hill as far as i am concern only to God should the title of reverend should be attributed too and it is high time that you church leaders realize that the churches, their leadership and followers have a serious credibility problem .

First of all i would like to say god is not any
Political mockery. For those of u who respect jesus, i thank u. However, i do not need any pastor to tell me to fast for labour party or uwp. Hmm fasting and prayer is no joke. This is very serious and i feel that all this garbage going with politics , u all are trying to put god in a situation that is very upsetting. Why we can’t u all pray all the time. I
Never see any pastor come here and say,
Let us pray and fast because god has been good to us inspite of our sinful acts. U might be trying to say something but in spirit jesus is telling me u are not real. Sorry, but i have a relationship with god and he shows me everything i need to know. And if u are s true pastor u know when the
Holy spirit speaks. No offence to u but i am entitled to my opinion.

@ The FACTS – answering your question –
Question 1 what did I do and
Question 2 – Judging others – My friend – before you Write, think – Because you neither know me nor know what I do – As one of the Voices in the Wilderness calling for righteousness and Justice you do not Know, Nor will you Understand – The things of God cannot be discerned but Unspiritual men, so I do not expect you to understand my Comment – However I will tell you this – Before you begin to Go against ( not me ) BUT the Word of God, Think First – For it is written
1 Chronicles 16: 20 And when they went from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people; – 21 He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes,
22 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
    And is Psalm 105: –
    13 When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people;
    14 He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes;
15 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
16 Moreover he called for a famine upon the land: he brake the whole staff of bread.
I do hope you take note.

Let us continue to pray for a peaceful election. It is a very sad situation to call an election just around the Christmas holiday when friends and family are trying to come together to celebrate one of the most holy and prestige time of the year. Why not call it after the holiday season. There will be to many distraction. That takes all the fun away from Christmas. I pray that God will look over Dominica on Dec. the 8th that everything will be alright. I have never heard election call close to a major holiday that is celebrated around the world in any country. I don’t understand it. Lets Pray for peace non violence. Adopt the attitude of Mahatma Ghandi and Martin Luther King. One of the most positive attitude is Jesus Christ. God bless DA.

All these hypocritical pastors will only get respect when they stop depending on the present government for jobs, medals, duty free cars, scholarships and other trappings of greed and selfishness.

They keep on blatantly avoiding challenging the evil and “pray” for and encourage labour party wickedness and diabolism.

Since none of the posts in response to this article make sense I will write a proper comment. I thank the churches for taking this step forward. Right now Dominicans seem to be fighting like dog, cat and pig over leadership of our country. Yes literally fighting, the stones are beginning to fly and I would not be surprised if I hear of gunshots soon. Please people its only an election. You die today, you leave it behind. Keep your soul clean and stop the shameful behaviour. SHAME ON ALL THOSE WHO PARTICIPATE IN THOSE NEGATIVE ACTIVITIES. THIS IS THE WORK OF SATAN. WE NEED GOD TO STEP IN TO CONTROL THESE PEOPLE. So DAEC THANK YOU. We need prayer. We need those who are faithful and can pray to pray. Not those who are fighting like cat and dog on behalf of Satan, whose behaviour is uncontrollable, and so they see something bad in this article rather than good. So I applaud DAEC. I will join your prayers. May they be answered. Jesus has never failed us. Any prayer in his name if well done will be answered. We have proof of that. All of us who have Jesus and know how to pray. And people….do not die before you experience the holy spirit physically in your life.

Mr. Francis I note that your message has released the ususal religious freaks. I would have preferred if the christian churches had spoken out against injustice and inequality not only the christian churches but combined with all faiths and march in solidarity. To call for a day of prayer and fasting is too simple and easy. I am not a philistine and will spend that day without public demonstration of my faith and communicate with my Maker in private as I do every day.

Remember GOD DONT LIKE UGLY and his wrath is greater than all nuclear bombs put together, more powerful than the energy of the SUN and all the stars.

What have you stated about the Order of St. George? What do you know?
Note the name, “Order of St. George”. There is only good in it and also assisting people.
It is a world where people call good, evil and evil good. Evil people make everything out to be evil and this is you and all those that debase this Order just as you speak evil of the Catholic Church and its members and causing some others to do likewise. One day you will pay for this.
So the PM made a comment. Linton, Lugay, Fontaine and others made comments; no exception on this Website. Who are you blaming? One person? You are also a hypocrite and as I always say, “The pot calling the kettle black.”
God is patient! The truth will be revealed to you someday. The just recompense of God is imminent. It is forthcoming.

And so I am taking ahead, to do my part, as a person who truly loves God, through His Person in Love–Christ Jesus, the Man, who is also known as the Son in flesh and bones. For I do love my country and her people–the God fearing people there–may you all be blessed in Jesus Name.

Oh God in Jesus Christ, You must be hearing the people of Dominica, calling for change, but dear God, You and I both know that the change that is needed in us, has nothing to do with physical change one way or the other, and especially not in rulers and or authorities, for You are the One who appoints them in the first place

Also, as Dominicans, You have blessed us with a homeland of a beautiful landscape all in all–no one can take away that blessing from us–we thank You Lord

What we need O God, is a change of mind condition–the change that all of mankind must encounter, if at all they are going to get to know what is the good, what is the acceptable and what is Your perfect will–Romans 12:2–the Life in Love that You want us to demonstrate, through attitude and conducts, but for Your glory in Love– it is not ours to take.

And so dear God, hear my call, hear my cry; O God give ear to the words of my supplication, as I pray to You that You reach out and touch the minds of the people of my Dominica, for spiritual healing; let them know a mind within them which is cleansed and sanctified–purged from the pride of self, the passion of the flesh, and the lust of the eye, for none of these are from You, O God; they are from the world. “And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever” 1st. John 2:17

O God, as we, the people of Dominica, enter the season of election, for the next Government of 5 more years, please speak Your wisdom to the minds of the people; give them the ability of discernment, that which they will need to know the difference–as You guide them to choose according to Your Will, dear God–not the will of man.

    • November 15, 2014

Dominicans, I leave you with this reminder from the Word of God according to the apostle at Romans 13–read all of it below

      Submit to Government

13 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. 5 Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. 7 Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.

      Blessings to all of you!

This is your judgment not God’s. if you are going to use the message of the Bible, make sure you know why you are using those messages and state your point by quoting the Scripture which speaks your understanding–otherwise leave God’s Word out of your personal judgment.

Also the church is the people, if you do not belong to any of those churches, then perhaps you do not belong as God’s people–and so you need to be quiet.

And if you belong to a church in Dominica, you are speaking against yourself; hence either way you would be just as guilty–that is if God was in harmony with your opinion–but I am sure that he isn’t..

It would be wise to pray for love, humility, peace and unity to breakdown the dividing walls of different religions which have sprouted up in recent years and caused animosity and hatred. Pray also that crimes/murders be eradicated and that all D/cans also live in harmony with one another.
If we have no love or project it on the surface, (God knows if those prayers are sincere or not) and there are divisions and disunity among those who call themselves Christians, those prayers will not be answered.
People must pray with a humble and contrite heart.
God allows certain situations. There are some who will say they pray and God answered their prayers as they also judge others. Really? It all depends for what we pray.
Our God of Love will not answer prayers which harm others. This is what some people have in their heart as they say they pray to God and ask others to pray.
I can tell you if you pray with a heart filled with hatred and revenge, to be vindictive you are merely heaping burning coals on your heads as a punishment. Some people lack the blessing and grace of God and spiritual enlightenment to know that.
Dominicans should commence praying right now (in fact consistently; not only at election time) in the privacy of their homes and when they are at church or wherever they are for that matter. They can do so privately.
For instance, when I go to Church, I give up my Holy Masses for a good mortal and spiritual cause. It is not for me. God knows our needs and our wants and He will grant them as He sees fit, if it is good for us, our souls. We must also forget ourselves and think of others and pray for them in that godly spirit.
Yes, in this case Dominicans. They should also pray for God’s graces and enlightenment.
Some who pray as they have depicted on this Website, it is to oust a politician they do not support as they utilize derogatory names and also Bible verses. So they call themselves Christians. Is God pleased with them? By no means. God is not a fool. He is not mocked and is not deceived. He must not be used for our whims and wiles which generate from his enemy, the enemy of our souls, Satan.
God will not answer those prayers even though the person wins or loses. Therefore, they should not compliment themselves. Again, much more could be stated about that.
May all Dominicans live in love, unity, peace, harmony and safety.

Here is Skerrit last night. “God is good, God is really good because he has shown us that Linton is a political fraud ….Linton is a cursed man and the good Lord will curse him for disrespecting women.” Here is the DAEC today:“Political parties and candidates are encouraged to be respectful and civil in their speeches and towards each other and cautioned to not take the name of Jehovah God and the Holy Spirit in vain through inferences or direct reference to Jehovah God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.”

Mr. Francis, I am sick and tired of you all hiding behind religion to play politics. As a believer myself, I believe in prayer and fasting but this makes no sense hers for the following reasons:
    1. The Church is part of the problem because they remained silent when evil was creeping into the very walls of the church and said nothing.
    2. You all are pretending to defend the name of Jesus today, but almost 5 years ago, when Skerrit was referred to as “jesus” by Matthew Walter, during a political meeting that in which one of our pastors opened in prayer, the DAEC and church said nothing.
    3. Before prayer and fasting, I expected the DAEC to repent to the nation for allowing evil governance to take roots in Dominica, and did nothing.
    4. Here you are warning politicians about using God’s name in vain, and see how skerrit used it to try to tear down Mr. Linton. If you and the DAEC were serious, you would find a way to specifically condemn Skerrit for using God’s name the way he did last night. Bust as you all have done in the pass, when Skerrit uses God’s name in vain, all you try to generalize it instead of being specific. If the DAEC is really serious they need to stand up and call a spade by name before they try to run behind pray and fast

I just honestly hope that people who claim to love Jesus put on their colors and rally with and for Christ. So many people will do anything for their politicians and they quiet in their churches. Sad Sad Sad

Love and respect for all. We can discuss but respectfully, free to agree or disagree amicably.
This includes when commenting on this Website. Have you heard the sayings, “Nearer to church, further from God?” And, “Going to church does not make one holy?” By this you know what I mean. One of it is to respect the faith and devotions of others.
This is why during the course of a relevant conversation, I state, I am not impressed how frequently people go to church and pray and how well-conversant they are with Holy Scripture. The attitude projected, in addition to be helpful especially when the opportunity presents itself, will depict who is truly Christian-like or not.
It is the little things we do which make us true children of God, Christians. People are also judged by what they state. So much more could be stated about that. In any case it is all in the Bible.

How can you ask for respect and amicability when there is nothing but invective coming from your vituperative pen against anything that does not smell of Rome or Skerrit. You give Christianity a bad name. Shame on you.

Glad to see you have finally decided to do what we expect the Church to do. It is dangerous for the church to get involved in politics. And even worse to support a dictator who is openly disrespecting Dominicans, who are brave enough to call evil EVIL.
Be impartial and support Dominicans in their quest to rid Dominicans of all forms of evil, casting darkness over our beloved Dominica. Yes take the Church back to the level of being above reproach and do your part by pushing back the darkness.

this is exactly what we need right now, break every chain of the devil.

    • The Facts
      November 15, 2014

It takes more than that to break every chain of the devil. It also takes loving hearts that persevere in holiness, prayers and obeying God’s Commandments. You must be perfectly perfect to do that.
I do believe, as we pray we could ward off the devil. However, only God will break his fetters for good. God wants everyone to love, keep loving; no hating, no judging for no one is perfect and pray fervently.

Only NOW – ONLY NOW … when all the issues were raised and the injustice done, where were you Christian Leaders?, When the country needed your voices where were you? When all the evidence of wrong doings were in your faces – WHERE WERE YOU CHRISTIAN LEADERS??? – Jesus when against Political Oppressors, Apostle PAUL was up against Political Oppressors – So you are without excuse – There was Only one voice was in the wilderness – Pastor RODNEY and his team – You Kept your mouth shut – and allowed too much EVIL to happen and now you calling for Pray and fasting – Pray and fasting does not Move GOD – Obedience moves GOD.
Ezekiel 33: – 3 If the WATCHMAN – when he sees the sword coming upon the land, he blows the trumpet and warns the people,
4 Then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.
5 He heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he who takes warning shall save his life.
6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, he is taken away in and for his perversity and iniquity, but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.
7 So you, son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; (Dominica) therefore hear the word at My mouth and give them warning from Me.

BUT you failed in your duties as a Watchman for the people – and Now you are calling for Pray when everyone is now engrossed in All sorts of Political activities – NOW is not the time for Prayer – Now is the time for Action – When Moses came to the RED sea –
EXODUS 14 – 15 The Lord said to Moses, Why do you cry to Me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward!
16 Lift up your rod and stretch out your hand over the RED sea and divide it, and the Israelites shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
Now is the time the People of this country to lift their hands and fingers and make a decision – There destiny will be on your head if they make the wrong one because you knew and saw the sword coming and you failed to worn the people.
