Diocese of Roseau youth rally today

The Diocese of Roseau Youth Secretariat in collaboration with the Parish of St. Ann will host its annual World Youth Day Rally to be held on Saturday March 31, 2012 from 10:00am in the community of Mahaut.

The theme for this year’s rally is: “Your Word is a Lamp for my Steps and a Light for my Path (Ps. 119:105).

Pope Benedict the XVI has also declared “Rejoice in the Lord Always” (Phil 4:4-9), as the official World Youth Day theme.  World Youth Day is an initiative of the late Pope John Paul II and is normally celebrated on Palm Sunday worldwide. Young people from every parish community of Dominica will be reflecting on both themes during the course of the day’s activities.

Hundreds of youth are expected to gather at the corner of Dominica Coconut Products and the Belfast road on Saturday morning, to begin a lively praise and worship procession through the village led by Jeffers Paul & Friends.

The procession will lead to the Mahaut playing field (Teza grounds), where a faith filled programme of activities is planned.  His Lordship, Bishop Gabriel Malzaire will be present throughout the day and will be the main celebrant at the closing Eucharistic Liturgy at 3:30pm on the playing field.  Other invited guests include the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports and the local Parliamentary Representative.

The featured speaker for this year’s annual rally is Nic Davidson, a young Catholic convert and missionary.  Other guest performances included Asher Thomas and various parish youth groups who will share their gifts in song and dance.

A special feature of the rally will be a bible quiz competition based on the popular TV game show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire”. Parishes and Catholic Secondary Schools will be competing for a grand prize trip to the Antilles Episcopal Conference Youth Assembly to be held in St.Lucia, in July 2012.

The Diocesan Youth Secretariat invites all youth and interested adults to this annual event.

God is GREAT. I applad my catholic church for continuing to cater for the young people. Once it is done in His name nothing can destroy this rally. The Lord said wherever two or three are gathered in my name I sahll be there and He is there today.

There are always those who have negative things to say. I wonder what the critics will say next. I remember as a child growing up they said the pope was the antichrist, after he died everyone went mute because there was nothing else to say it was obvious they were wrong. now they want to comment on pope Benedict. what is next find something more constructive to say about the church. I believe once you are worshiping hte Lord no matter what church you go to it is a wonderful thing so please stop criticising the catholic church and let’s join together to pray for our country as young people.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” so let us do just that today whether catholic or protestant. God is an awesome God.

I miss these activities so much. I remember my last year involved was the year of our first banner competition. It’s amazing to see the dedication and sincerity of our youth in their faith. I will continue to pray that these events are always Christ focussed and continue to engage youth in a positive way.

Games to be played. Prizes to be won. Shows being put on. c’mon, is this what celebrating the Lord has come to?
I’m a young citizen but I was taught the right way. We should not be using worldly gimics to pull in crowds in numbers. If the word of the Lord is failing to keep and captivate the youth in our society it’s because we have failed to show the youth by our actions and by our words that we are true believers of the Lord.
When we’re promoting gosple extravaganza in the name of God featuring dancehall gosple artists, when there’s gosple heavy metal and gosple rap, what can we expect from the youth? The good book said sing and dance in the Lord’s name, not party in the name of God. There is a way to express happiness in God and it’s certainly not by winning gifts and prizes when we gather to celebrate and parise His name.
It just seems like the entire roots of the world are coming undone.
There’s a saying, going to hell in a hand basket. That’s what comes to mind.

The church don’t have to strive to be popular and entertaining to gather masses, we the church just have to get back to what God asks of us. By our ways the rest will see the light. By our actions the world will get to know God.
