Each other’s keeper – Opposition Leader, Hector John

Opposition Leader Hector John

The Christmas season is always a time for joyous celebrations, reflection, sharing and caring.  This is when most of us take time off to appreciate the great joy from the celebration of the Savior’s birth. Others are hopeful that the goodwill of men will bring them peace and joy. During this season we all rekindle our love for the Divine Messiah and with each other. We also look forward with optimism for the best in the coming year.

The Christmas celebration brings great joy as God demonstrates His love for mankind through the birth of His son, Jesus Christ. We celebrate the simplicity with which our Lord and Savior did great things towards the elevation of mankind. His undying love, compassion, gentleness and faithfulness are qualities that we are thankful for. That is why we continue to joyfully celebrate the birth of the Risen Lord.

This sacred season provides the opportunity for self introspection of the past year that will provide guidance towards the coming year. We reflect on our relationships with God and each other, while evaluating our personal growth and tribulations.  We also reflect on the sincerity with which we assist each other towards self development. This personal scrutiny done at this time is valuable and healthy as it provides new approaches towards future personal accomplishments.

A sharing society raises the level of spiritual consciousness while cultivating agape. It strengthens the bonds of unity and breeds generosity amongst the people. Such a society enables the people to be at peace with each other despite their many differences.  These qualities embody the true spirit of the Christmas season. In Hebrews chapter 13:16, we are instructed to “do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” What we share don’t have to be of monetary value but it has to be done out of the goodness of our hearts. Let us give a listening ear to a brother who is seeking a little attention. Let us encourage the young lady to raise her self esteem, while the elderly should never feel abandon. We should always be our brother’s keeper and sharing with the less fortunate will surely bring us closer.

Providing care for those in need is a worthy undertaking that breeds contentment. It also portrays one of the qualities of the Prince of Peace. We learnt from Mathew chapter 25:40, “And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’” During this wonderful season, let the care that we provide be full of love and compassion. Let us start in our communities and do the least that we can for those who can’t do for themselves. What is done in the sight of God is done of God.

In this season of Goodwill we are called to do good in the sight of the Most High. We must break down the barriers of hatred and division. We must destroy the seeds of every form of discrimination. Do not allow the present economic situation be a deterrent from doing what is pleasing to God. Instead, let us bind together for the betterment of our society. Let us sow seeds of everlasting unity that will positively propel us into the New Year.  In this coming year, let your resolve be of everything positive in the sight of the Most High.

Along with the God fearing, wonderful and productive people of my constituency to include, -Coulibistrie, Morne Rachette and Salisbury, we joyfully extend a Merry Christmas and Productive 2013 to everyone.

God Bless us all.

Does anybody know the difference between Politicians and Evangelists in Dominica? Is Christianity in Dominica being destroyed by politicians and wannabe Evangelists?

Society has come a long way. No longer is Christmas deemed as a sacred time for God, but rather it has become a time to mass sell over-priced goods, spend money that does not belong to you via credit cards despite the economic downturn, the culture of buy now and pay later has vastly increased. Jesus is no longer a factor in Christmas as it has slowly but surely lost it’s true meaning.

On the flip side, think about the elderly who are alone without family or friends. Why not invite them to dinner or at the least bring them a gift? There are many at this time of year who are lonely and suicidal, why not offer them your companionship, a good book to read for you to discuss with them as it can change their whole perspective on life. Instead of buying gifts why not find a valid worthy cause to give your hard earned money to? Charity begins at home they say, so whilst you think about buying that new 42 inch TV, maybe Aunty Broke has not got a winter coat to wear!!!!

Yes, ’tis the season to be jolly’ for some but not for many, if the truth be told.

This is true, Rum punch. Christmas has nothing to do with Christ anymore. Everything about it is self-centered.

Good message. If only the followers of these polititions were to listen to their messages then we would have a peaceful Dominica. The PMs message is about the same.
