Mahaut to get Catholic place of worship

Fr. Franklyn Cuffy

Over seven contractors have placed their bids for the construction of the first Roman Catholic Church in Mahaut.

This comes on the heels of a ground breaking ceremony held on Sunday.

Parish Priest Father Franklyn Cuffy says he is hoping that the new church will be built within one year.

“We had the historic ground breaking ceremony and the next phase is the tenders. We are currently negotiating with the contractors and we are hoping that pretty soon the contacts will be signed and we can see the actual construction start,” Cuffy said Monday.

He says over ten years ago, the decision was made that with the rapid increase of the population of the St. Paul and St. Ann’s Parish there was the need to construct a new place of worship.

Cuffy said the present community center being used as the Holy Family Chapel is inadequate to accommodate the more than 300 faithful who gather every Sunday for weekly worship.

“We need to have a sacred place to worship and praise our God and that was the significance for the diocese,” he explained.

Over $900,000 have already been put in place for the construction of the new facility, which is expected to cost over EC$1 Million dollars.

There is a serious need for the introduction of warfare prayers in those Catholic churches since some of the same people in the congregation are there destroying their brothers & sisters & the priests are turning a blind eye shame, shame, shame.

$900,000.00 could go a long way in creating much needed jobs for the unemployed in the Parish. The building will not get people closer to Jesus Christ. The church at Massacre is now too big because the congregation has declined considerably.

The priests and sections of the congregation cannot condemn corruption. They sleep in bed with………. Crime on the rise. Unemployment on the rise. Drugs on the rise. Their actions are un-Godly. That is why the building of a church in Mahaut is no guarantee that the community will be better off. Many of them, their purpose is to serve the master, their supreme leader, not act according to the righteous teachings of Christ.

The good teachings of the Bible have been cast aside and replaced by greed, lies, stealing, cheating, gambling, corruption to the bone. We need people who are more sincere and who believe in the truth, in righteousness and justice. Don’t continue to mentally enslave the masses with just churches and condoning of corruption, but feed them with the good tidings for their spiritual upliftment. Teach the congregation about what is right in the eyes of God.

you need to check yourself before you bash the priest. if you know so much about corruption why don’t you check your lifestyle?

Never imagine men of the cloth would think twice or refuse to condemn the wrongs done by the Cabal. By doing so are they helping us to see the promised land? Who speaks on behalf of the downtrodden and poor of our land? The rich is getting richer and the poor is getting poorer right before their eyes. They gravitate towards the side of the rich, but say they are praying to uplift the poor. It is plain to see. Take the wool off your eyes.

“The good teachings of the Bible have been cast aside and replaced by greed, lies…….” These have been prevalent in the catholic church for centuries.

As a mahaut man myself,i think it’s a step in the right direction. However he didn’t say where the church/place of worship will be built.Although we had it out a few years ago i have nothing but respect and admiration for the man. This man is not afraid to stand for what is right.Good luck my brother.May the god of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob continue to bless and giude you in all your undertakings and may he contiue to pour out his blessings and protections upon our parish and our country.

no confidence in that priest that does wrap up his tongue in the back of his throat when he should talk on the issues… he used to be vocal before.

What does your lack of confidence, a personal assessment, have to do with his announcement of the building of a new church? We just can’t separate our personal bias from unrelated matters.
