Evangelical pastor, Peter R. Augustine, has described Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, as the best Prime Minister Dominica has had so far, saying it was God who allowed him to be in such position while the country faces the ravages of Tropical Storm Erika.
He made the remarks just before praying at the handing over ceremony of 300 Petrocasas by the President of Venezuela Nicholas Maduro at the Douglas Charles Airport on Wednesday.
Augustine said he was taken to task when he called Skerrit Dominica’s wisest Prime Minister last year but, “I think it would be remiss of me not to say something about our esteemed Prime Minister and I thank God for you sir.”
He added, “I believe I said it once, and the press took me to task. And I repeat it here that I believe that God knew and God knows exactly why he allowed us to have this Prime Minister for such a time as this. And I still believe that he is the best that we have had in this country so far. I thank God for you sir, and not only that I believe that in no uncertain terms you have shown the level of leadership that you are capable of demonstrating.”
Augustine even tried to be prophetic.
“And if I may be bold to be prophetic, I also have no doubt that in years to come when other nations will face disasters as we have had, or worse than we have had, they will look for you, your counsel, your advice and your experience,” Augustine noted.
He blessed President Maduro saying that his country will be blessed because of his gesture to Dominica.
In 2014 Augustine was again given the role of delivering an address on the occasion of the official funeral service of the late Bishop Bill Michael Daniel. During the address he described Skerrit as one of the country’s “wisest” leaders.
