SNAP wants more done about defrocked priest

Fr. Lafleur defrocked following allegations of sexual misconduct
Fr. Lafleur defrocked following allegations of sexual misconduct

An international organization which speaks on the behalf of those abused by members of the clergy has blasted Bishop of the Diocese of Roseau, Gabriel Malzaire, for not doing enough about now-defrocked priest, Reginald LaFleur.

Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) said the bishop must use his resources to have LaFleur reported to law enforcement and eventually jailed.

“We’re glad that Fr. Reginald LaFleur has been defrocked,” SNAP told DNO via email.

But defrocking isn’t enough for SNAP which is describing LaFleur as a “risk to kids.”

It said the Bishop must use resources such as pulpit announcements, parish bulletins and diocesan website, to urge others to urge others to come forward and call the police.

According to SNAP,”kids are safer when child molesters are jailed” and Malzaire can assist in getting law enforcement involved in the LaFleur matter.

“But only if he shows real courage and compassion and aggressively prods others with information or suspicions about LaFleur to call law enforcement,” it said.

According to SNAP, “Catholic bishops recruit, educate, ordain, supervise, shield and transfer child molesting clerics. Then, often bishops kick them out when they’re caught. But that’s not enough.”

The organization went on to say that “Bishops should go further and actively help law enforcement find evidence to convict these child molesters.”

“That is the civic and moral duty of every Catholic employee – current and former – in Dominica,” SNAP noted. “And Malzaire should lead by example. He should go to every place where LaFleur worked and beg victims, witnesses and whistleblowers to contact police and prosecutors now about LaFleur.”

SNAP is also calling on Malzaire to apologize for what it described as his “insensitive remarks about LaFleur’s defrocking.”

“The bishop apparently spoke only of the hurt he and the church suffered …. ignoring the far greater pain of the priest’s victims and their families,” the organization said.

LaFleur was defrocked by a decree issued to him by Malzaire on November 6, 2014. He was on administrative leave following allegations made two years ago that he had touched a woman’s “bottom and breast” and made “sweet eyes” at her 19 years ago.

The matter was forwarded to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome which reviewed it and authorized Malzaire to proceed with “an Administrative Penal Process.”

SNAP claims it has members who have been abused by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers.

Have you, too, ever asked yourself why you believe what you believe?
You are speaking for me? Do you know me and who I am? Do you know how knowledgeable I am in my Catholic Faith? Do you know how I practice my Faith? I know more than you and much more than I could ever state on this Website.
For one who appears to be godless, an atheist or following Haille Selassie and against the Catholic Church, I find you out of place to question me and, my beliefs. If I did not know what I know I would not continue to remain practicing my faith. If you had any common sense, what I write should give you an inclination.
You must be one who was a practicing Catholic but due to your lifestyle you have swayed from the Church and formed your satanic opinion. Or you are merely a nominal one.
God exists. He created the world and all who and what is in it. Human beings are obligated to worship him. Woe to those as you who do not worship him and give him due homage and praise. Do not allow your death to meet you in this manner otherwise, woe to you for all eternity. With that type of attitude, you deny yourself God’s blessing, graces and enlightenment.
You are not correct in your manner of thinking. Some of you do not like to hear the truth. Obviously, the truth offends, if not hurts. The truth must be told, not hidden, not ignored and not watered down.
As a member of this Church, I am obligated to defend my faith. Too bad you do not have one. I have common sense and I utilize my common sense. Furthermore the Holy Spirit enlightens. This is something you have depicted you do not possess.
Our Lord Jesus Christ established His Church, namely the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. This is what it is called because Our Lord established it. It is the only Church which will remain until the end of time when God calls everyone for their judgment. You better believe it while you still have time on earth..
Prior to questioning others about their faith, their beliefs, you should pray to God for his graces and enlightenment which you appear not to possess; not even his blessing otherwise you would not have made those comments. You gave yourself away that you are an ungodly person. This is very sad for you.
I am certain you are no angel or saint and do not even know what an angel and saint are. My advice to you is also to seek God and give him due homage before it is too late. As I always say, on that day, it will be revealed to the doubters and deniers. Hope it will not be too late for them, for you.

The Facts, It seems like you are very sincere in what you believe but you are just sincerely wrong. Did you know that the Pope/Pimp blessed the slave ships that carried our forefathers/foremothers into slavery and three of the ships carrying our ancestors were The Grace of god, The holy Mary and the good ship Jesus? The slave masters forced christianity upon our ancestors. Our ancestors had spiritual systems, meaning they believed in spiritual forces (nature) and not religion. They studied the universe and were able to build the pyramids which are alligned with the universe. Even here in Dominica, our parents would study the clouds and knew when to plant certain foods. We have always been close to nature, as a people, (unlike the Europeans, who lived in caves in the Caucaus mountains). Some of what our ancestors believed can be found in the pyramids in Egypt. That spirituality followed our ancestors wherever they were taken. Rome and Greece had no civilization and they had to go to Egypt to copy what was there. Everything originated/started in Africa. Because the Europeans did not understand spirituality (they are against nature), they came up with religion and forced it upon our ancestors. You just believe the dogmas of the catholic church but you need to enlighten yourself about the the history of the Catholic church . You have just stopped at Rome. You need to go beyond that and know what part they played in enslaving our ancestors and dividing the world.
Why would I believe what those who enslaved my ancestors teach and how could those who enslaved my ancestors put in place anything to save me? Save me from what? The sins that they have told me that I have committed? The history of the catholic church priest and nuns is one of homosexuality because that’s what the Greeks and Romans practiced. I have to enlighten myself as far as history is concerned so that I can understand the religions that men have created. Religions have caused more death in the world than any other thing. Christians against Muslims, etc., You are being controlled by religion and are spirituality enslaved. There is nothing coming from the clouds to save us. Only hail, rain, sleet and snow comes from the sky.
“Emancipate yourself from mental and spiritual slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds” (Bob Marley)
I am spiritual, and not religious.

This case os not clear-cut enough for any one who was not involved to make a decision. Time heals everything and we should investigate as to why it took so for this lady to come come and tell a story. Was she influenced ?? coaxed? Or is what we are seeing is it part of the devil at work?

My heart goes out to any victims of childhood abuse. I was abused as a young child by a religious figure who I loved and admired. I never told anyone until the age of 48. I was told I would go to hell if I told. He was a man of God so I thought his sexual abuse of me was a punishment by God because I was an evil little girl. Even at the age of 48 I feared God’s wrath should I talk about my abuse. It takes a lot of courage to speak out and I hope the bravery of the victim who has spoken out about LaFleur inspires others who have been abused to come forward. You are not alone and there are others who understand and who will support you.

I am not here to judge but would like this to be tried in the court of law so we know the truth. A verdict based on one sine does not provide the facts. Guilt or innocence is based on both sides of the story -thus the reason for symbol of the scale (weighing the facts to arive in a just verdict).

On another note, the only priest that is an exorcist is defrocked right before elections?
I heard the leader asking people not to bathe before they go an vote. What is the spell that will be cast on Dominicans on the night before elections that they are being told not to bathe before elections? Have you ever heard that request before voting day? This is a very strange request. Dominicans we have 365 rivers and always bathe in the morning so lets sik to that!

I would also like all governments to place a statute of limitation on those cases. A few are lies. Consider the anguish it has caused when the story was concocted just to collect money.

The problem is not Father Reginald Lafluer. The problem is the Roman Catholic Church belief system. How can a system encouraged grown men for hundred of years to deny one of the most significant part of their manlyhood without a chance of parole. Not even for one hour in a year. This is just ridiculous, as someone mentioned he said ” he have blood” well. Tell him his life is not over. He can accept Christ as his Lord and personal savior convert into Christianity, get Married and make good use of his blood the right way. Father Lafluer should Sue the Roman Catholic Church for creating his personality. It is high time for those Priest to come out and hold that dead religion responsible. The Catholic church is responsible.

Your perception is totally wrong. Fr. Lafleur will do none of what you stated.
You will never comprehend the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church and what it stands for.
We are Christians, the first, original Christians of the world, baptized in the Name of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. We are alive in God because it was established by His Blessed Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ.
We proclaim Our Lord Jesus Christ. We celebrate His Holy Mass which He commanded us to do. Check the Gospel of John.
As Frank Werfel (whom you may never have heard of) who wrote the Song of Bernadette and which is also a movie said:

“For those who believe no explanation is necessary. For those who do not believe, no explanation is possible.”

The above refers to you. Be careful of your words as imbedded in your heart. Our Lord said, “. . . By your words you will be acquitted and by your words you will be condemned.”
When you die, you will find out.

The facts, have you ever asked yourself why you believe what you believe? Do you even know the the history of the catholic church? Did you know that the catholic church was involved in the enslaving of our forefathers/foremothers?
Just a little food for thought. History has been recorded and cannot be erased. Stop fooling yourself and emancipate yourself from mental and spiritual slavery.
christianity cannot and will not save us. A system that was used to enslave us definitely cannot deliver us. Fear of going to hel has been used to make us believe that we are sinners needing eternal life. We must ask ourselves where did that teaching originate and try to get the real truth and stop being eternal slaves to a system that was set in place by the slave masters. While we are sleeping they are constantly thinking of ways to continue our destruction.

If this case was worth defrocking a 60 year old priest after 30 years of service surely it was worth reporting to the police when it happened.

I would not expect a 12 year old girl to go to he police alone. Ideally she should have told her mother and her mother should have gone with her to the police and reported the incident. The police should have done an investigation and laid a charge if they felt they had a case that would stand up in court. It seems there was no investigation until 19 years later and then it was by the church not the police.

Once Bishop Malzaire had the letter or letters from the woman accusing Father Lafleur did he turn them over to the police? It seems not. Instead he eventually sent them or copies of them to the Vatican.

If the allegations are true what the priest did is a criminal offence. This makes it a criminal matter. It should have been reported to the police. The priest has been de-frocked. However, this is nevertheless another example of the RCC sheltering a priest from the law.

Roman Catholic Church authorities have ,long acted as if they are a law unto themselves and above the law of the land where they live.

Roman Catholic people need to realize that God has appointed human government and delegated to human government the authority to make and enforce laws that are in harmony with His own laws. We must obey the civil authorities according to Romans 13:1-7. The only exception would be if our government passed a law that was contrary to God’s will for us as He has revealed it in the New Testament. Acts 4:18-20.

Having the priest investigated by the police and tried in a civil court would be best for the priest if he is innocent. He would hopefully be cleared. Then anybody who accused him could be sued! Also people would be less likely to falsely accuse a priest if they knew it would become a police matter and they themselves could be brought under scrutiny.

If Father Lafleur is guilty I agree with SNAP. He should be taken out of circulation (off the streets) at least until he has received professional counseling or therapy, and there is reason to believe he has made sufficient progress to no long be a risk to society. However, taking everything into consideration some believe the evidence is rather thin. You should bare in mind that a lot of pressure is being placed on the church to atone for their own sins of omission by cracking down on sexual abuse by priests. It would be a shame if Father Lafleur was being used as a scapegoat. This is just one reason why I say the investigation should have been done by the police and a trial held in a civil court if the police thought the evidence would stand up.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

sir you are not reverend. only God is reverend.

      • November 29, 2014

        Silver Bird:

Thank you for reading my comments and replying to the manner in which I sign off. You seem to a sincere person who takes the Word of God seriously which is more than I can say for some DNO commentators. I want you to know that your opinion is meaningful to me.

Please consider this explanation of my own thinking on this subject.

In my country (Canada) the title “Reverend” means the individual has been approved or endorsed by a recognized religious organization such as an established congregation or a denomination to perform all the duties of the ministry including marriages and can be licenced by he government to perform marriages. Anybody is allowed to preach the Word and lead in prayers. In most localities anybody is permitted to conduct a funeral service and prayers at the graveside. But the government says only those who are ordained can receive a licence from them to marry. Then the marriage can be registered with the government.

Those who are ordained can legally be addressed as “Reverend” which indicates that the individual has full ministerial approval from the church to marry and can receive a licence from the government to do so. Of course it also means in simplest terms that the minister like every Christian is expected to be a “reverend” person in all conversation and behaviour.

In the fellowship of believers to which I belong (the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada) the ordination service is a simple but profoundly meaningful act. A portion of scripture is read. We call it “the charge”. It is usually 2 Timothy 2:1-5. Then senior church leaders lay their hands upon the candidate and pray for God’s blessing. This means the church recognizes that God has indeed called this individual to do His work and has their full approval to pursue this call. Ordination is a scriptural practice. Please see Acts 13:2,3. Acts 14:23. Titus 1:5.

As I have said it is the practice among us to sometimes address one who has been ordained as “Reverend…” It is not a “flattering title”. None of us are flattered when somebody addresses us a “Reverend”. I for one am humbled because it reminds me that I often fall short. But I do appreciate the fact the the person who is speaking to me is showing respect for the ministry which is God’s work. I use the title only when I am transacting business or signing something I have written like comments for DNO.

Silver Bird, you have said “…only God is reverend”. The Bible says in Psalms 111:9 “…holy and reverend is his name.” I expect this is why you have said only God is reverend. Allow me to explain what this verse means. God’s name is reverend. My NAME is not reverend. There is nothing reverend about the NAME Donald Hill. But I as a PERSON I may be a relatively reverend individual by God’s grace. Of course only God is reverend in the absolute sense.

Here is a Biblical example of this . Please look at Psalm 148:13. It says about the LORD “…his name ALONE is excellent.” Notice the writer uses he word “alone” meaning no other NAME is excellent! But in Luke 1:3 we find Luke addressing a man called Theophilus as “most excellent Theophilus.” But wait! Does the Word of God not say God’s name alone is excellent? Of course! There was nothing excellent about the NAME Theophilus. It was no better than any of the other Greeks names of the day. But Luke knew this particular man was (relatively speaking) an excellent individual. He was a PERSON of good character. He was possibly also a person of high rank such as an officer in the Roman army.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

The whole thing is you do not know if he is guilty. Who knows if they went to the police? The woman also accused other men of abusing her. It was said she and her mother wanted money. This is a good way to get it from the Church by accusing a priest.
I would not put my hands in fire for her. I would not exalt this SNAP. People hear those stories and right away believe what they heard without it being proven. They are not intelligent people.
As for accusing the Catholic Church, if your child or children were embroiled in this type of saga, would you hand them over to the police? Until it happens to you, you will never know and experience it. Therefore, refrain from accusing the Catholic Church of what you do not know about. You never worked with them and therefore are no expertise on that matter.
You are another one who will pay for your words as God is hearing and taking note. You people hate the Catholic Church for what It has not done to you.
We are first and foremost Christians with a Church which was established by Our Lord Jesus Christ. Satan knows it which is why this Church is so persecuted.
As I inform people as you, one day the truth will be revealed to you. Some people will stand before God with their mouths wide open and shocked when Our Lord Jesus Christ will reveal the Truth of the Catholic Church and that He established It and It alone on this earth.
You people will get a wide and rude awakening and may very well regret your life and forming your own church which caused disunity and divisions and still do which has saddened God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, The Blessed Trinity – Three In One. Judgment Day will come for everyone. You will not be exonerated.

Let pray for our priests because some priests are jealous of other priests especially if the church congregation love a particular priest. No wonder the catholic church is decreasing. What malzaire should do is go around the diocese and find out why since he come Dominica the church numbers have decreased. tell him leave Fr Lafleur and do his work as bishop. Go out and make disciples for Christ.

    • The Facts
      November 25, 2014

Know what you are stating and know the truth. The Church numbers have decreased because some non-Catholics formed their own churches. They allowed the smoke of Satan to enter their hearts. They went about informing Catholics that they are not Christians; that their form of worship is not good and on and on. Those foolish Catholics who, themselves, were tepid in the faith and cradle Catholics, also depending on their lifestyle, believed them and renounced their Catholic faith. It had absolutely nothing to do with the Catholic Church and the priests.
You should know Holy Scripture. Our Lord said, “When I return to earth will I find faith on earth.”
This is the Great Apostasy which is spoken of in the Holy Bible. It is also stated that “There will be a remnant. ”
You people better pray to God for enlightenment. You appear to lack knowledge and enlightenment of why this occurred. Satan is out to destroy the Church and you people. Those so-called pastors of other churches have done a good job of helping him. There are some foolish people who believed them. Satan is only laughing at all of you make a mortal and spiritual fool of yourselves which may end up in his cauldron of everlasting fire. God has taken note. This is no joke. They will all find out their error one day.

Like I said before and I will say it again….
      Something to keep in mind—-
Child predators are very cunning and manipulative. They know every trick on how to groom, threaten, lie, and put the fear of god into their victims and sometimes even their family members. They also appear to do a lot of goods things, they can be very charismatic and you may think they would never harm anyone. They have to be this way, in order to not get caught and to continue to abuse. They devote lots of time and energy building trust with their victims by giving them money and gifts. They tend to make their prey feel that they are special and loved.

Sexual predators are often powerful and well-loved, we must overcome the dangerous myth that because someone is successful or warm or caring, he or she couldn’t have done that! It would be comforting if those who preyed on the vulnerable were obvious social misfits whose appearance would somehow set off alarm bells and give us the willies or the creeps. They rarely do. Usually, predators are among the last people we would suspect of sexually violating others. At a party, the predator isn’t some oddball sitting alone in a corner because others feel uncomfortable with him. Most often, the predator is the guy throwing the party.

And we must stop thinking that because a person is old, that somehow he/she is automatically safe. It’s just irresponsible to endanger kids by assuming an adult is harmless simply because he or she may be losing hair, wearing glasses, using hearing aids or walking with a cane. These can be signs of advancing age, but they are not signs that an individual is safe..

Child predators can never be allowed near children.
It’s extremely rare that a child predator has only one victim. Some have many. So let’s hope that any others who may have knowledge or may have been harmed by LaFleur, will find the courage to come forward, get help, and contact law enforcement.
Sex abuse thrives in secrecy and secret systems that allow it to continue to this day
Silence only hurts, and by speaking up there is a chance for healing, exposing the truth, and therefore protecting others.

        Judy Jones:

Your comments are read in Canada by people from Dominica and by Canadians like myself who for one reason or another have an interest in the Caribbean.

Thank you for the information you are making available. I may not agree with every single statement but that is to be expected. You are doing an excellent job of telling people what to watch out for. I would like you to say more about how important it is for people to report cases of abuse. There can be no exception.

When child sexual abuse or even the abuse of an adult is committed by a priest or other clergy it should be reported to the police not the bishop. You do not need permission from the bishop to report a priest who breaks the law, especially in a matter as serious as child sexual abuse. A Roman Catholic bishop is likely to tell the victim to say nothing, just leave it with him, he will take care of it.

Every country, province, and state should be covered by a law that makes it mandatory for anybody who KNOWS of a case of child sexual abuse to report it to the police. If your nation does not have such a law an organization such as yours should be all over your politicians to get one put on the books, and see that it is enforced with a severe penalty for not complying.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

exactly so. SNAP is bending over backwards to get recognition . Let them know that their power is only in the USA. They know nothing about this case. Little do they know that Fr. Lafleur is loved by all Dimicans of all denominations. They really need to snap their mouths shut.

While I sympathize with both Father Lafleur and the alleged victim , I must say there are a number of things happening in the church that the bishop must pay attention to. He acted quickly when the allegation was made against La Fleur. No evidence her word against his. However he has proof that the immediate past principal of the only catholic school in Portsmouth has embezzled misuse ( whatever you want to call it ) thousands of dollars and she is walking free. So SNAP jail is not just for one set of wrongs.

      November 24, 2014

It all depends what you would like to see him write to pacify you and some others. All the same, I hope he doesn’t. It is better to leave well alone. Reason being, none of us know if this woman told the truth and if she fabricated this story. Let sleeping dogs lie.
I have connection to him and I will be one of the first person to inform him to keep quiet on this matter. I assume that some others will also do the same. The Vatican has handled it. Let it be! I visualize that this case is closed. It might as well very well be.
Know that as a Priest, he is hurting at this overall news. What do you expect him to write on this matter? He cannot go against the Hierarchy of the Catholic Church. A, genuine faithful Catholic would do likewise. I also visualize that he may not want to discuss it. If so, he is within his rights and as a Priest.
My advice to you, if you are especially a practicing Catholic, imperfect in the sight of the Lord (everyone is anyway, some more so than others), is to live the faith as best as you possibly could and pray for the Pope, the Bishops, the Priests, Catholic members, yourself and your entire family including Dominica and nationals in general. Be holy as God expects of us.
If you are a practicing Catholic at that ( I reiterate), you should know the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. We are obligated to perform acts of love, charity – generosity and mercy in Jesus Name. The laity is not exempt. Our fervent prayers are more needed in these times.
Many people have done more talking, writing than praying and very little action, if none at all, to assist especially our brothers and sisters who are in need of mortally and morally and spiritually. God knows this very much more, better than I do since He knows, sees and hears all things and nothing is hidden from him; nothing escapes him.
All what we say and do is recorded as the Holy Spirit scrutinizes them for our judgment. I like to say a mini one during our lifetime, the bigger one when we die and on Judgment Day. We must not lose sight of this. Therefore, as Our Lord Jesus Christ told us, be perfect and merciful as our Heavenly Father is. This the bottom line, the be all and end all of it all.

      • A Doubting Thomas
        November 25, 2014

He did not give evidence and therefore has not admitted to any wrong doing. It could mean either one of two things, he could be guilty or he could be innocence. The church has spoken based on the evidence of the other person when there are two people involved. None of us know for sure the truth of what happened except the two people involved; one spoke the other didn’t.

The church did what it did and maybe what it should do under the circumstances. But without the priest full cooperation what do we really have to go on? Silence is not necessary guilt or for that matter innocent. Silence could be Peace.

That is not to say, the accuser is not telling the truth, that is only to say there is only one side of the story and therefore it is not complete.

Have empathy for Fr. Lafleur. Support him in every way you possibly could including your prayers. Get others to do likewise, especially those in the Faith. It is a time to pray for him, for our Catholic Church in general and to support It. Leave the rest to God who will deal with everyone as each one deserves. Practice your faith. God bless you!
We are One Body in Our Lord Jesus Christ and we do not stand alone. Know that Our Lord is with His Church which He established 2000 years ago. He spoke to It, to us when He said: “I will never forsake you My people. I have carved you in the palm of My Hands. I will not leave you orphaned.”
Satan is a jealous one who places disunity and division. He has done much harm in the world since he was thrown out of Heaven and will continue to do so until the end of time when he will be caste down forever in the everlasting fires of hell which is prepared for him and his fallen angels including those who follow him.
Keep this in mind as you continue to be a faithful Catholic. You should know that the Lord is not blind to what is occurring. He is patient. and wants us to be patient. Let this be our consolation. You know, wait on the Lord. Praise be to God!

When this news was first posted on DNO, I recall someone commented that she is from Portsmouth. She was known to them. As I read then, nothing good was stated about her.
I think Fr. Lafleur was then the parish priest in that area.
She must be in hiding but she cannot hide from God. His eyes are on her until she dies and is called for her eternal judgment. If she lied, one day she will get just what she deserves and more. All Christians should know about that.
Just as Satan, some people are out to embarrass and destroy the Catholic Church as if they could. They are out to get as much money out of this Church. They heard that others have done it and they want their share even though they fabricate lies. What will they not say and do to satisfy their evil ways and to get money from this Church?
Some have tried in other countries as in Canada. One of this occurred in Ontario. It was found out that the Priest was (or a few priests were) wrongly accused. Those cases were thrown out of Court.

Please note when you are involved in exorcism etc be mindful that you are to be squeaky clean or else the enemy will bring you to shame. I know the enemy is having a big celebration because of all what is taking place. Father you have been attacked and in order to be attacked there must be a victim. Dear Lord please intervene in this situation. In my times of trouble Fr Reggie was the one I could run to, from Portsmouth, to Goodwll, to Pte, Michel to Grand Bay where ever he was stationed. When the attacks were too strong, he helped me to pray. Thank you Fr. Reggie but I do understand why.

What victim? Did you not hear what she stated? She probably stated more which may be fabricated and are not revealed.
We are not told about her lifestyle when she was a youth until she became an adult to today. I would not be surprised that she had a good share of sexual relationships but it was Fr. Lafleur she had to lodge a complaint against..
If you are certain that her story is true, then have empathy for her. If you do not, what I would do is to keep neutral about her side of this story. I cannot have empathy for her. I recall a few comments about her by those who know her which were not complimentary. Try to revert to DNO archives and read them. There are a few.

Here is my opinion to the out come of Father Lafleur.Really and Truly this woman took to long to come out with the incident,it should be reported the same time to the church or the police why wait all this years? Father Lafleur has blood as he told me many years ago, he did not touch me, he was forward to me and i handled him quite well,do not under estimate any one, trust no one,I did not see the need to report him after all this years,,we all are human and sometimes we could flip.I am a hard core Catholic, the doctrines in the church needs to change,Priest are humans and they should have a personnal life, have a wife, bear children, and it would make a difference,Iwould not like him to go to Jail he is a good Priest, but he loves women, well since he is no longer a Priest he need to get married have children quickly before his stream runs dry.Thats one Wedding i wont like to miss.

    • The Facts
      November 24, 2014

Couples marry. They take vows and many did not fulfill their marital vows. Some marry over and over again. Should it be stated that they should never get married?

Ecclesiastes 5:3-6 – When you make a vow to God, delay not its fulfillment. For God has no pleasure in fools; fulfill what you have vowed. You had better not make a vow than make it and not fulfill it. Let not your utterances make you guilty, and say not before, his representative, “It was a mistake,” lest God be angered by such words and destroy the works of your hands. Rather fear God!

Therefore, let us be fair and think of those who got married especially the men, some of whom had/have affairs in secret. Some had/have them in the open that everyone knew about. Some of them had children outside marriage. They did not fulfill their marital vows which they made before God.
Think of this when you and others state that the Church should allow priests to marry. The priests are following in Our Lord’s footsteps. He promised that those who gave up everything and followed him faithfully, will receive their Heavenly reward. Even in this life they will be happy serving him.
Everyone was not meant to marry. Just as two men and two women were not created to marry people of the same sex. Some of you need to be broadminded and spiritually enlightened. You probably do not practice the faith as you should and/or do not pray as you should which is why you make such statements that the priests should be allowed to marry. Read/study the words of Our Lord Jesus Christ. I reiterate that I could comment further on this but it will take too long.
Now, the issue here is what that woman stated about Fr. Lafleur and did what she state really occurred and as she thought? We do not know. Let us leave the matter to God.

    • The Facts
      November 24, 2014

If you are a Christian you should know the following and the meaning of it which is self-explanatory, the words of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Matthew 19:11-12 – Marriage and Divorce – Not all can accept (this) word, but only those to whom that is granted. Some are incapable of marriage because they were born so; some, because they were made so by others; some, because they have renounced marriage for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whoever can accept this ought to accept it.

Matthew 19:29 – The Rich Young Man – Everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for the sake of My Name will receive a hundred times more, and will inherit eternal life.

Having quoted the above, I do not know your story. However, they study for approximately seven years. During that time they are free to leave and prior to being consecrated priests. Even when they are consecrated, they are free to leave. Did God not give us all a free mind and will? If they feel that they cannot cope with the priesthood, they would be doing the Church and themselves a favor to leave. They will speak to their superior. They may be asked to think it over and also to go on a retreat. If they still want to leave, they will not be prevented from leaving. It is better to leave the Church rather than remain administering to parishioners and their heart and soul are not in it. Some may prefer remaining to save face.
I read the Book, To The Priests Our Lady’s Beloved Sons. Our Lady gave interior locutions to an Italian Priest. In one of the Chapters, it was stated that Our Lady said, “It is better to leave the Church rather than embarrass It.”
God knows what is occurring and what they are doing. As I stated, everyone will receive their just recompense from God. However, let us be broadminded of this issue, if this incident, did in fact, occur.

Teddy, I see where you are coming from but wholly disagree as you fail to understand and comprehend the bigger picture. Many sexual abusers are fathers, husbands, uncles, people, the majority if not all married with their wives or girlfriends.
I do not agree with priests being married for simple reason it is too much a task and burden for the church. For example, how many children should a priest have and how is the parish going to manage this….through a second and third collection….are you prepared to do this>>>?
Now should they be allowed to use or have access to birth control, and here we go again, issues….issues!!!!!…killing the baby in the womb….against god….against nature…thy Will be done, for Christ sake…..it is not an easy task.. We often look for the easy way out rather than dealing with the issue objectively AND HAVE THE NECESSARY DISCIPLINE AND FORTITUDE TO DISCIPLINE OURSELVES.
I LOVE MY CATHOLIC CHURCH, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH it AND ITS DOCTRINE, IT IS WE THE MEMBERS AT ALL LEVELS WHO BRING IT TO DISREPUTE……after all we are all human…….

i can’t believe that in this day and age you people on here still swearing up and down for a priest’s innocence. were you there? isn’t it possible, given all the abuse stories that we have heard all over the world? so you swearing for people? and this nonsense about ” he without sin” when a man beating the hell out of your daughter or raping your son, why report it? after all “let he who is without sin” but the troubling thing about this is that all who defending probably don’t have children in the same situation. he who feels it , knows it. watch the documentary of sex abuse in Ireland within the Church and see the number of children who said their own parents didn’t believe them, cos the priest could never do that…oh no. heaven forbid

    • The Facts
      November 24, 2014

Were you there too to convict him? Those abuse stories that you heard about do not mean a thing for this case.
How about the men who do not honor their marital vows and who commit infidelity? Would you say that all men are one and the same?
If men attack/abuse their daughters and sons, they will deal with the situation accordingly. Each case is different and has its own merit and vice versa.
The enemies of the Catholic Church are many worldwide. You are no exception. Do you not think that God will judge you and deal with you according to your lifestyle?
Some married and single men raped young girls and boys. This has been occurring donkey years ago to today. Some children now adults were conceived in that manner. Therefore, do not be hypocritical and turn a blind eye and deaf ear to this. If those people were to come out in the open and accuse them, consider how many of them would be arrested and charged. It is time the government of Dominica do something about it and enact a law to bring them to justice.
Leave Fr. Lafleur alone. You ensure that you live a holy life that you may save your soul. You can only do this with the help of God. If you turn away from God, you have no way of saving your soul. Therefore, you know what to do while God is giving you life and time. Pay heed for your mortal and spiritual benefit!

    • December 3, 2014

Rabbit, you are wrong on this one.

I am one of millions of Christians who talk to God every day. It is called prayer.

Furthermore, God speaks to me as He does to Christians around the world. When we read our Bibles He speaks to us. Sometimes He speaks from His Word in a personal way by the Holy Spirit. It happens when a verse of scripture seems to come alive, even as if it leaps off the page and hits us! God also speaks to us by the Holy Spirit within our hearts by a still small voice. There are rare occasions when God will speak to an individual believer by a dream or vision.

If you are not a Christian and do not have a personal relationship with Christ you will probably not understand any of this. But I can assure you it is very real as can multiplied millions of born again people world wide.

There are mentally ill people who say they hear voices in their heads. This is one of the symptoms of a psychosis. They do need professional help. We have known of people who have said the voices told them to kill somebody. No danger here. Christians know God never tells anybody to do ANYTHING that is contrary to the Bible His inspired Word which is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.

To know the Lord and walk with Him is a wonderful life. It is not about religion. It is about a relationship with the risen Christ. He is real and He is alive today :!:

AMEN TO THAT…..I there too ….My FT Lafleur….

    • December 10, 2014

I see many people urging Father Lafleur to open his own church. He would do well but I do not expect him to do this.

The reasons are (a) Father Lafleur is committed to Catholic theology. I would be surprised if he denied his faith. (b) He knows apostolic succession ends with him. He has not been consecrated a bishop so he cannot ordain priests. There would be no future for a church he started in the Catholic communion. No Protestant denomination would accept the new church as an affiliate unless Father Lafleur renounced his Catholism and embraced Protestant doctrine.

If Father Lafleur was going to start an independent community type church he would have to adopt regular Protestant doctrines and practices OR make up a whole new belief system with no Biblical basis OR historical value which is the stuff cults are made of.

At he end of the day this man is no ordinary priest. He holds a doctorate from a big Catholic University. On top of that he is an exorcist: a man knowledgeable in the ministry of deliverance and approved by a bishop to cast out demons. Whatever you think of the allegations against him or of how the Vatican handled the problem I encourage you to pray that the light of the Word of God will shine into his heart.
If he discovers that Jesus Christ on the cross paid the price in full for his salvation, and that he can be saved for time and eternity by simply believing and receiving Christ as his Savior apart from his own works or human efforts he may well become a true champion of New Testament Christianity and the gospel of Jesus Christ.

      I encourage you to read Romans 5:6-8, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Romans 1:16, Ephesians 2:8,9, 1 John 5:11-13, Revelation 3:20.

However, most people do not know the inner nature and workings of the Catholic Church. At the highest levels the church operates on the principle that the end justifies the means. They will do whatever will be best for the church.

If Father Lafleur opened a new church in Dominica and it grew by pulling a significant number of people out of Catholic parishes on the island it would be reported to the Vatican. It is just possible you would see the church authorities in the Vatican restore Father Lafleur to the priesthood in order to bring about the closure of the new church. His members would be left embarrassed and ashamed looking for another spiritual home. Meanwhile the priest would be assigned to a parish with a manse to live in, and have his living allowance and car allowance back, along with whatever retirement arrangements the church has for its clergy.

It would not be difficult for the Vatican to give the public a reason for restoring Father Lafleur. They make their own rules and they go along. Remember Catholics believe what their church teaches including the notion that they must not question its decisions. Protestants know nothing about Catholic canon law. They would wonder at the action of the Vatican and shake their heads but their ignorance would prevent them from getting involved since they have nothing to gain or lose from it anyway.

Jamie, father Lefleur was accused of child molestation and judged guilty by his own church. How do you explain that?
I think that, if father (now mr.) Lafleur really cares about his people he should have made a public statement before now admitting or denying guilt. I think that would be helpful. By staying silent he does more harm than good to his church that is already under siege. By all means he is a popular man and I ‘m sure there will be a lot of people that will continue to support him regardless.

So what you are saying is that if you did not witness a rape..that means it did not happen? I just need some clarification on your statement.
Fr. LaFleur is not the victim……the person at the time who was under age and he molested is and still is after all these years the true victim. No one is speaking about the victim, and no one knows whether he admitted the true that’s why everything went against him. God is in control and no judge or jury can change anything. He needs to accept the consequences and pray to the Almighty Father and get marry.
A priest who molests under age children can not and is forbidden to be on the plop pit in the Catholic Church. Other churches/religion is different as long as they ask for forgiveness and get some form of counseling..

Thank you… Yes, what about the victim/victims.?… also those who are too afraid to speak up because of most of these awful bashing comments who believe this priest could not have possibly sexually abused anyone..
That is the very sad part… ! It is extremely rare that there are false claims of child sex abuse by priests..

And can you now understand why ? Why would victims want to be treated so badly by so many god believing people..?
But we hope that those still scared silent victims will also get up the courage to come forward and contact law enforcement.. not the church officials, they are not the proper officials to be investigating child sex crimes… tks.. Judy Jones, SNAP

The catholic churches have adulteress, fornicators, liars, thieves gossipers / obeah etc. giving communion in choir and on pulpit and the church sees no wrong in them even the very bishop fr Thomas and all are just as bad. So Leave Lafleur to God and he will judge him. Too much wrong doing in these damn churches and we are only seeing one set.

Also, didn’t she claim that she needed money and her complaint was not being taken seriously? I smell a rat with this one. 19 years ago you were touched and kept quiet. Dominicans stop displaying your lack of empathy to young child victims, you are the reason that abuse of young children male and female continue on the island. You all are willing to sacrifice the victim all over again for something she suffered and it could have been a boy. Blame the victim that is why Dominica continue to be a land of lawlessness, bourgeoisie attitude of one law for the rich and powerful, and another for the poor and powerless like women and children. all this is a symptom of uneducated poverty ridden society who allow religious superstitions to ruin their lives. In the 36 years of independence since the overthrow of the forward thinking government which took Dominica to independence, poverty and ignorance has flourished as demonstrated by some of the insensitive comments about the victim. Dominicans now live in fear of those in authority as the catholic church have a stranglehold on the politicians, and Dominica is suffering as a result.

Truth and Justice, I agree with you. Two things that have a stronghold on the people’s minds are religion and politics. That’s what have been in place by those who have the authority over the people’s lives. Unless we rid ourselves from these we will never be free.
The lifestyle of the Greeks and Romans was one of a homosexual nature. According to an article I read, “Roman men were free to enjoy sex with other males without a perceived loss of masculinity or social status, as long as they took the dominant or penetractive role. Roman men in general seem to have preferred youths between the ages of twelve and twenty as sexual partners.”
The institution of christianity (please note that the catholic church is the mother church of all the protestant churches) is one of homosexuality. It is also said that king James, who translated the christian bible for the church of England, began in 1604 and completed in 1611 was also a homosexual and his lover was Shakespear. The so-called holy bible is just filled with myth, allegory, symbols and fables.
You are right. The people have allowed religious superstition to ruin their lives.
The thing with our people is that they are naive, gullible, ignorant of the truth, and are not willing to accept change.
Why is it that we have allowed the Catholic Church, which was vital in enslaving our people to continue to have such a stronghold on our lives? Again, a lack of knowledge about the pope, whose job it was during slavery, to bless those ships that carried the slaves. He was also responsible to divide the world, in 1493 and 1494 and gave half to Spain and half to Portugal.
In 1974, Mozambique, Angola and Guinea Bisseau were still fighting against Portugese control of their land which was given to them by the catholic church five hundred years before.
It is said that while the slaves were in the dungeons before they were brought to the west, these Europeans were having church above.
Oh my people, religion is not our friend but our enemy. We cannot be free by being religious. This is what that has been used to keep us as eternal slaves. We need to awake out of mental and spiritual slavery and get to know about our African spirituality.

If evangelical Christians and devoted Catholics knew that SNAP promoted homosexuality, lesbianism, and so-called same sex marriages they would disassociate themselves from the
organization and cut any support they have been giving it.

You have made a very serious statement against SNAP. Now you owe the public a knowledge of whatever documentation you have. Please post it as quickly as possible. If not you owe SNAP a profound apology and retraction.

My own organization – LIVING HOPE MINISTRIES – stands uncompromisingly for the moral code of the New Testament and traditional family values. We appreciate the work SNAP is doing in combating the sexual misbehaviour of clergy and offering support to the victims. Oh Dear SNAP! Your intentions are good but you have not done your research about Dominica. There are no laws in Dominica that would support that case which allegedly took place over 20 years ago. The most the Bishop could do is sensitize people but the victim would have no legal case. Our laws are ancient..and need reform. I hope the politicians are looking into this.

SNAP- you would be of greater help if you would pressure the Bishop to speak the truth on this matter and give us the facts. Specifically:
    1. What was Msgr. Reggie actually accused of. I am hearing conflicting reports.
    2. Why is the decree not being made public? I think the public has a right to know exactly what the decision was. What is the big secret? Since Msgr. Reggie claims to be innocent, revealing the contents of the decree should not hurt him but give him more support that an injustice was done. If he is not innocent then the contents of the decree must be made known so we really know what happened.
    3. SNAP- ask the Bishop how many people have come forward to accuse Msgr. Reggie. I think the public needs to know this. As if Matt made a comment this morning that there was another case.
    4. Why has there been NO support or kind words about the alleged victim or victims. Maybe the Bishop does not believe they are really victims.

Something is not right with the Bishops reaction. He has not apologized to any victim for anything. I really question if this whole thing is legitimate. The Bishop of Dominica owes the people a better explanation.

SNAP, there is plenty of work for you to do. But putting Msgr. Reggie in jail is not one of them.

“The Bishop of Dominica owes the people a better explanation.”– yes you are absolutely correct.
and btw.. we already know that the statute of limitations in Dominica stops victims from having their day in court.. This stops many victims throughout the world.
The laws need to be changed so they that are not so archaic predator friendly .. so that the truth can be exposed and so that kids can be protected today. And yes, bishops are still covering up child sex crimes.

A normal human being cannot take a vow to repress sexuality. If he had a wife I am sure nothing like that ould have happened. When a young good looking healthy man makes a choice to become a catholic priest he should be sent to psychologist. Something wrong.

If he had been accused of troubling a boy, he would have been made an archbishop.

It can be done. It is not for weaklings. People should have a fair knowledge of how strong they are to withstand the priesthood. The priesthood is a call from God who grants the graces and a sacrificial life for God.
Know that God and us mortals have an enemy who does his utmost to tempt even holy people. If you know that you will comprehend why some people fall including married people. Therefore, if you have a compassionate heart, you must be understanding.
Many men and women in previous years have done it. Some in this present age are doing it. However, one has to be strong of also faith just as men who are married must be strong not to dishonor their marital vows.
It pays to practice the faith as you should. It pays to fervently pray with a holy and pure heart. It pays to persevere in temptation, to rid oneself of it. It pays to persevere in trials and tribulations, persecution. God will help those whom He sees are trying.
There is a lot you do not know especially if you are not a Christian Catholic who is also well-read and knowledgeable in matters of the faith. You must do some research and read Catholic matters also on the lives of the saints. It is said, if you wish to become holy and to be saved, read the lives of the saints.

If you KNOW (I’m not talking about gossip) of a teacher having sex with a student and do not report it to the police who are as bad as the teacher. It is not only YOUR responsibility too report it. It is YOUR responsibility to ask the police what action will be taken and when. If you are not satisfied that it is being properly dealt with you should take the story to the editor of the best newspaper available and request that a good reporter be assigned to the case. Follow up and inquire what if any progress is being made.

Does Dominica not have a law that requires anybody knowing of a case of sexual child abuse to report it to the police? If not this does not say much for your government. If nobody makes it an election issue it does not say much for the people of Dominica. Again and again we read reports of sexual child abuse increasing in Dominica. The people have the power to stop the growth of this evil in their country and if they do not do it they have themselves to blame as the world looks on.

This only happens when the people let it happen.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

    • November 24, 2014

Anyone who knows and has evidence of a policeman sexually abusing a child should report it to his superiors. The person reporting it should inquire what action is going to be taken and when. If no action is taken that person should go to the editor of the best newspaper available and give him or her the story, suggesting that an investigative reporter be assigned to the case.

This raises a question. Does Dominica have a law that requires anybody knowing of somebody sexually abusing a child to report it to the police? In Canada (at least in Ontario) we have had such a law for years and it is not taken lightly. When I was working as a counselor on contact to the Maranatha Health Centre in Toronto for a year in the late 1980s I was painfully aware of this law.

The sexual abuse of children is under reported not only by the victims because of shame and fear which can be understood. But it is under reported by adults who know of the abuse. This is something any nation that cares about the problem of sexual child abuse should do something about.

Every few months I read a report in DNO that sexual child abuse in Dominica is increasing. This is an evil that will only increase if the people let increase.

Whether the priest touched the girl cannot be proved now. Could never be proved. Regrettable if he did, but what these people want is to see the man crucified.
Just like Bill Cosby’s situation, nothing can be done to him, EVEN IF he did those things, because there’s such a thing called STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS.
        So leave the man alone!!!!

substantial evidence is what stands in court. well maybe not in dominica, on the other hand i don’t think the bishop is in a position to report the matter to the police the woman is, and if she doesn’t the bishop have no powers to make a report or have the accused arrested, if rape is committed a rape kit/test is carried out. what evidence does she have to present to the court that the accused actually did touch here breast and bottom, only her verbal testimony. in my opinion maybe the members of SNAP should also be investigated, ‘he have no sin cast the first stone’

We should merely ignore SNAP. They are not even friends of democracy. They are radicals.
