Report it, says Corriette

Disaster Coordinator at the Office of Disaster Management (ODM) Don Corriette is urging those with specific information of wrongdoing by volunteers and members of the National Emergency Planning Organization (NEPO) to report what they know.

Corriette however noted that volunteers and members of NEPO were also affected by Tropical Storm Erika and need supplies too.

His remarks come following talks that some people are stealing supplies being sent to communities affected by the storm.

“People may see a volunteer or people from NEPO going home with a case of water or some supplies. NEPO members were not isolated from the impact,” he said, adding, “So if you see a NEPO member going home with a case of water or some supplies, they are not taking the supplies.”

“If they are taking the supplies, what we are saying to the communities, we need to know about this, we need specifics, not generalizations. Let us know where exactly this is happening. There is a hotline at NEPO. But I don’t want to give people the impression that there is mass disorganization or mass mismanagement…”

He said it is expected that relief supplies will be properly managed.

Unless our people mindset is not change things will remain the same….We have to understand DOMINICA is one NATION… In a time like this political colors and favors should be on the back burner….And these people doing this nonsense should know it’s not LABOR money buy the stuffs.. Is hard working people out of DA who come together to help out our fellowmen….We place political colors aside so please my people do the same……LABOR, WORKER, FREEDOM , WE ARE ONE NATION UNDER GOD…..

The solution to that is simple in my opinion. Report them and shame the by calling their names in public, on radio stations and in various chat rooms. Some people too darn greedy and wicked. Some of them even have the guts to sell the items in their shop after they steal it. And yes they are poto DLP supporters so no need to defend them.

If the DLP government wants to distant themselves from this why don’t they (The PM in particular) take to the airwaves in mass and tell the DLP disciples to STOP that nonsense? This poopoo must STOP!

    Assertive, NEVER Aggressive! 8) 8)

Dominicans mindset and the way that we do things alone is a set back. We need to change the way we think first and deal with one another in this place and things will work out better for us.

Mr. Corriette is anything ever done fairly in Dominica. I believe that you all are aware that certain volunteers are treating these people unjustly. Handing out one tin of an item for a family when the Government is refusing more relief supplies into Dominica clearly states that we need more food stuff to hand out adequate amounts. I can only imagine how the people feel. Passing UWP supporters straight without giving relief supplies, dressing all in red and going to distribute as if. I am a labourite but this isnt a political campaign and the supplies came from people of all political preference and some who have not. So please put a stop to this its noy attractive and is very sneakt and tactical and it disgust me that people would use a delicate situation like this to play politics!

Sad news, Probably you need to put a list together and write down names of persons receiving supplies. That is why I am making arrangement to send stuff to persons in my community that has no involvement with any organisations .Come on guys, the world is watching you.We need transparency. Its not about Labour, Didn’t they hear the PM speech!

    Mr Corriette,
I know you have been working tirelessly Thank you great job.. But from what I understand from other organisations assisting with relief efforts things are disorganised. Just learn from mistakes this time so better prepared should there be a next.
Yes, things are not going well And Yes, party politics are being played. Cant be helped. These people can never change, its thats simple

At such times, it is to be expected that there will be some who will take advantage of the situation and pilfer some relief supplies. They should be considerate of others in need.
Corriette, you should have known this could happen. You should have issued directives to the volunteers, advising them against it so as to avoid unfair distribution of these supplies. Ensure such a directive is recorded, if and when future disasters strike.

Truththe I guess you are a prophet? You warned the nation about what? Why didn’t you or any of your self righteous gang warn about the toll the storm would take? God didn’t speak anything so I don’t know what none sense you are talking about. Meteorology is not connected to morality. I had enough of the silly God this & God that comments. If meteorology is connected to morality I can think of a hundred other different places the storm could have done way better job. Now it is a shame that the director have to ask ones to report wrong doing but it can all be explained in one way. we are dealing with a species that is only half a chromosome away from a chimpanzee.

This is why I decided from day 1 that I would not donate or send not even 1 penny.
I have decided to send funds directly to specific families I know that are in needs.

  16. K
    September 4, 2015

I just had a conversation with someone today and mention the fear of donation on a wider scale, specifically for these reasons, people stealing. It just never seem to get better with “Some” people bad habits in DA this is the reason I am sending things directly to my family, then they can help out a few families they feel really needs it. Sad and shameless. All they need to do is ask for support if they were affected. I am sure they wont be denied.

Simple solution to this if it is true:
At each distribution center there should be an even number of volunteers from both parties.
This will keep each other accountable.
If you are volunteering and was also affected by TS Ericka, get in line when your shift is over just like everyone else.

Like where you are things are properly managed. Just look at Haiti for example….did the people get all the help that was due to them? People will always do wrong no matter what. None is perfect

Thank you Mr. Corriette for your words and hard work.please be informed that majority of the chairmen of the village council are labourits therefore they will do any thing to say labour is working. My God, the things are not for labour but for the people of Dominica.
Let us learn a lesson from the storm or God will speak in a harder way. Some time ago I warned the nation no one took note. We did see and we did hear. God bless.

Be careful of stones that you throw The fact that you mentioned Labour, you are biased and prejudiced. You spoiled your comments.
It was unnecessary. UWP members/supporters could very well do the same. What makes them different from Labour? Are they not human beings with similar traits who are under the identical circumstances?
You are one of the causes of division and lack of peace in Dominica.
God is a God of unity and peace. He expects his followers will be the same. He will not excuse them nor exonerate them because of politics and political affiliations. Some of you appear to either ignore it or forget it. In time, everyone will be held accountable for their unloving words and adverse mannerism. You are also warned.

The Eighth Commandment of God is. “Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness Against Thy Neighbor.”
You should know what you have stated is a grievous/mortal sin: lying, fabricating, speculating, slander, injury to the good name of others, rash judgment. These are offenses against God and neighbor. He commanded us to love one another as we love ourselves and do unto others as you would have them do to you – The Golden Rule.
It is quite apparent that you who may not have been affected by this tropical storm did not learn a lesson from it. You are fortunate you were not among those who did not survive.
Your words should ever be loving. Some people never learn until they are affected and in a worse manner.

    • The Real Facts
      September 4, 2015

Labour has consistently received a lot of flack from you UWP supporters and for what. I have noted that Labour supporters are not as one quarter as bad as you, even less, as you UWP supporters. You spew unkindness, dissension and hatred to Labour.
You do turn others off. If a change must take effect, it must primarily come from people as you UWP’ers.

My whole take on that is that we should do like Hurricane David . Each community should get items and distributed in a particular spot. Persons should line up and names taken as they are given care packages.

Can someone please tell me why some Dominicans are so ignorant?? What does a people stealing have to do with the labourites? Why does every thing turns into a political issue. What about individuals having some moral, values and consideration towards other like for those they are suppose to be assisting?? Put the blame where it belongs.

        September 4, 2015

God has tought us a lesson that we need to unit but still yet we are here lashing each other with words. What is really wrong don’t you have a little bit of love in your heart,it is time to put politics aside and move on. What ever you do remember before Jesus died on the cross he forgave the person next to him and he also said Father forgive them, for they know not what the are doing. Friend you need to put a heart of flesh and not stones. Everything is labour that do it. Wait when God call you from this world is labour that do it. ????????✌

But the persons distributing it to the others in the lines can also be unfair.. It is just the way people’s minds are set up.

    • September 4, 2015

Are you serious? The distribution of relief items after hurricane David was very disorganized. Everything will not be perfect because it is handled by people.

      September 4, 2015

Ha! They should not do like Hurricane David. After Hurricane David, those incharge took the best for themselves and selected friends …. others either got what no one wanted (the coshoni) or very little.
