Ronald Charles sworn-in as UWP senator

Charles takes the oath in parliament

The United Workers Party (UWP) candidate for the Roseau Valley Constituency, Attorney Ronald Charles has been officially sworn-in as the newest member of parliament, holding the position of senator.

Charles replaces former United Workers Party (UWP) senator, Dr. Thomson Fontaine, who Prime Minister Skerrit revealed publicly recently, was ousted from that position because he missed three consecutive sittings of Parliament without the expressed authority of the Speaker of the House of Assembly.

Charles received his instrument of appointment on Friday, 11th January, from His Excellency, Charles Savarin.

During his speech in Parliament on Monday morning, Charles thanked Opposition Leader Lennox Linton for granting him the opportunity to serve at the highest level.

“It is a pleasure to be here this morning,” he said. “Let me first of all thank the Almighty Yahweh for giving me the strength to be here and let me extend that strength to members of the House both from the government’s side and opposition.”

He continued, “Because it takes a lot to be here and to be standing here to serve people. I continue to do so in my capacity.”

He also thanked the constituents of the Roseau Valley and promised to do his best to represent them, Dominica and the House.

Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton, welcomed Charles to the House and described him as an excellent outstanding community activist.

Boyd-Knight also welcomed Charles and had this to say.

“I recognize the fact that you are an Attorney at Law and I am really hoping that you can contribute to the understanding of the rules of the House and passing on this knowledge to your fellow members on your side of the House,” she remarked.

She added, “I trust that you will observe the rules yourself.”

Members of Parliament met today to amend three Acts of Parliament.

This include Offshore Banking (Amendment Bill) 2019, Fiscal Incentives Amendment Act and the Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information (Common Reporting Standard) Act.

Look at her remarks to the goodly gentleman. She could not even restrain herself from making condescending and unhelpful remarks. Her first instinct is to insult and denigrate members of the opposition. How can there be tranquility, equity, a sense of even handedness with this grotesquely DLP misfit presiding over parliamentary debates? The lady is an extremely poor representation of what a parliamentary Speaker should be. She should not be even given a job as a dog catcher. She will also make a mess of it.

Don’t worry Madam Speaker. Hon Charles is a very generous man and will gladly also share his knowledge with the other side of the House. They seem to need it more than his own.

Alix is serving skerit and not Dominica. She knows it. He should remind her the constitution outline that the speaker is to be one who is agreed upon by both opposition and gov. Her comments are not necessary and her bias is unbecoming of a lawyer. She is a disgrace to the position she holds and so to is the prime minister. Her legacy is already a stain o. Democracy in Dominica and if she had any character, principle, or class, she would have resigned jer position and go clean Roseau streets. I have more respect for the parro on the streets than i have for the speaker and PM.

I want to wish the erudite gentleman, Mr. Ronald Charles, an illustrious son of the soil, a most productive tenure in parliament. I hope he will bring a sense of decency, dignity, deportment and decorum to this once hallowed institution. It’s my hope that he will elevate the level of debate in parliament which is often used by members of the opposite side to make scurrilous and demeaning attacks on people’s character. The parliament has become an inefficacious platform of debate. The much touted honorable members on the government benches behave dishonorably. They spend too much time in parliament bad mouthing the opposition members and lambasting their critics. Try your best to make parliament work again for the people. May you have a positive influence on all the other parliamentarians.

Alix you never fail to show your biases and throw “maypwe.” passing on this knowledge to your fellow members on your side of the House,” Why not for the whole house, didn’t Kenneth break a rule by brandishing a weapon in the house? Are there not times when asides come from the government side whilst opposition members are speaking, is that not against the rules of the house? The longest rope has an end and the longest road has a bend, your day will come when the same rules will be used against your!

The lady is doing her job, a…holes. Let the lady do what she is supposed to do, ……. Nothing pleases you all. Lennox and the UWP will never get into power. It is the same UWP that left the coffers empty.

Cos if you mean “Alix” I totally agree, terrible woman, total DLP advocate. How does she get away with these patronising comments:

“I recognize the fact that you are an Attorney at Law and I am really hoping that you can contribute to the understanding of the rules of the House and passing on this knowledge to your fellow members on your side of the House,” she remarked.

She added, “I trust that you will observe the rules yourself.”

      DLP and Skerrit must GO!!

Great Stuff, Hon Ronald Charles and also to add we thank Hon Thompson Fontaine, who is way out there in Africa Land, South Sudan attempting to bring balance and good governance to this broken Africa Country. We must also be remembered that Domininca needs the professional expertise of Hon Thompson Fontaine in Domininca when the time comes to clean the dirty financial business going on ith this Rotten Corrupt Labour government an this failed leader called Skerrit who should never have been this prime Minister, I beg your pardon Odd Minister. That`s the behaviour and failure we have seen and continue to see in failed PM Skerrit. Sad and disgusting. Skerrit just Go, Get Out, move out, we need to take our Domininca back to political decency. No corruption, no thievery, no bobol, no deception. We seriously need decent mature people to manage our ailing Domininca. The UWP will stand to this challenged, under its formidable leadership headed by the Right Hon Lennox Linton and good Team.

U don’t know who advising pm but definitely to get rid of Thomson o ly to be replaced by that same Ronald Charles, is nothing short of handling uwp the valley seat and possibly the cabinet Thompson not here so he not troubling us plus, the Grand Fond seat had already turned blue whether is Thompson or someone else running for uwp. Before today, Ronald had us in a tight race in the valley and to see him become a senator almost guarantees uwp the seat, unless pm calls the election today which would perhaps keep it close because Dr. McIntyre is not a factor in the constituency. Stupes man

One good senator deserves another. Senator Charles is a remarkably excellent replacement for the good Dr.. I am sure that most in the Roseau Valley are elated! I am.. The position could not have come at a better time, since DLP is crumbling internally and externally.
    Skerrit Must Go
    Skerrit Must Go
    LAZY Skerrit Must Go Now

I see you are even ashamed to mention the name of the good Dr. Fountain. I don’t blame you as he was fired for not performing his duty in parliament, by now you have realised that he is very lazy!! The speaker has forced the UWP leader to appoint a new senator for the first time since he had promised that they would be changed every two years, was that a promise not kept or just another lie?

Typical Skerrit sycophant, who wears his ignorance as a badge of honour .The “W” in UWP means “workers”. .The briiant Dr Fontaine is a fine distinguished son of the soil .He acquired it by dint of hard work Anon.I am proud of him. All the other members of UWP are diligent and industrious workers ..They are trained by patriot Linton..Just imagine Skerrit has JI the crook as his hardest working candidate .Skerrit is lazy, all his MISLEADER are lazy .

You idoit Anon, Dr. Hon. Fontaine is performing his duties honourable in South Sudan fixing up and cleaning the mess and corruption and poverty this government endured upon the people. When done with South Sudan, he will return to Dominica after we Kick that failed Odd Pm Skerrit and his bunch of 18 clowns out of Parliament they have been despicable.
Hon Fontaine will then return to Domininca and clean up the mess of this failed Odd Pm and Finance Minister and just like in South Sudan and we will take it from there. All the failures, Bobols, abuse of states fuds will be captured. So Skerrit is scared and desperate why he is about trying to win Dominicans to vote from him. If he was credible and honest he would nt be scared of Hon Linton, Hon Fontaine and th professional Team of the UWP, and we Dominicans who want that political failed clown Skerrit out of office. We do not need immature boys in our government , we need the UWP professionals to build up our people and our nature…
