A new Board of Directors has been elected for The Rotary Club of Dominica.

The new Board was officially declared on July 19th at the Club’s Annual Investiture Dinner held at the Rosalie Bay Resort.

The new board members include Marie- Jose Edwards who replaced Robert Tongue as the President, Vice President Msgr. Reginald La Fleur, President-Elect Annie Edwards, Immediate Past President, Robert Tongue, Secretary Auriel Roberts, Sergeant –at- Arms Gloria Tavernier, Treasurer Lima Jervier, Assistant Secretary/ Treasurer Jermaine Jewel Jean-Pierre. The following persons were elected to serve as Chairs on the respective committees; Mr. Grayson Steadman Jr. was elected as the Chair of the Administration Committee, Mr. Haynes Jacob for the Membership Committee, Tamara Lowe for the Service Projects Committee, Ruth Allport is New Generation, Annie Edwards is Chair of the Rotary Foundation Committee and Pearl Fontaine is Chair of the Public Relations Committee.

At the Investiture Dinner President Marie Jose Edwards thanked the past president and congratulations him on a very fruitful Rotary year, 2013-14.

President Marie-Jose Edwards said that Tongue “exemplified service above self, commitment and great leadership.

The Club, under his leadership truly lived up to the theme “Engage Rotary, Change Lives”. Mrs. Edwards noted that “the success of the club depends on the work and commitment of the members, the collaboration and generosity of our many sponsors in the public and private sectors. Together we can harness our intellectual abilities and resources to continue to develop and implement projects that will meet the needs of the communities and to assist in making Dominica and the world a better place to live.”
Rotary’s goals outlined for the year include
• To increase support to the Rotary Foundation and to raise funds for Polio so that Rotary International’s goal to eradicate Polio worldwide, can be achieved.

• To retain and increase membership – so as to ensure continuity and club renewal- attracting young professionals into the club.

• To increase awareness on autism- The objective is to work with existing organizations to focus on awareness on what autism is and how to deal with autism.

• Youth development and empowerment- The Club recognizes that young people are faced with many challenges and will be establishing one Rotaract and Interact Club as well as initiating a youth mentorship programme.

Rotary intends to uphold the mission of Rotary Foundation by continuing with the development and implementation of projects based on Rotary’s 6 major areas of focus:
• Peace and conflict resolution
• Disease prevention and treatment
• Water and sanitation
• Maternal and child health
• Basic education and literacy
• Economic and community development
Marie Jose Edwards served takes up leadership under the theme “Light up Rotary”.

Delbert Paris became the newest member of the club when he was pinned during the dinner.

In attendance were President Charles Savarin and Mrs. Savarin, Past President Eliud Williams, who also was the guest speaker for the evening and Mrs. Williams, Assistant Governor Haynes Jacob and Bishop Alice Jacob and the President and some of the members of the Rotary Club of Portsmouth.

    Hello and good evening my people. Well it’s 11:45 PM in NYC and am checking out DNO before I go to bed. I read the article and am quite impressed with your Mission and your six areas of focus. I would like to know how can I become a due paying member. I visit home twice a year.
