As you are aware, COVID-19 has infected several individuals in Dominica with a high probability of affecting many more. In direct response to this anomaly, the Parliamentary Representative for the Salybia Constituency has joined forces with the Kalinago Council and other stakeholders to operationalize a task force to plan and coordinate activities relating to COVID-19.

The Government of Dominica has taken steps to ensure border security and mitigating against in-country transmission. The social and economic impact of COVID-19 is of great concern to us especially as we anticipate shortages in food, medicine and other essential supplies.

We have gathered all the data as it regards persons with vulnerability to include the elderly, pregnant mothers, babies, physically-challenged and persons with chronic diseases who may be immobile due to quarantine measures. The intention is to provide services to them in their area of need.

In the eventuality of a countrywide lockdown, the Government of Dominica has made arrangement for the provision of food supply. Our local response to this is ensuring local logistic and transportation measures are in place to facilitate that component of mitigating against the impact COVID-19. Additionally, we will make available seedlings and cuttings and fertilizers for farmers/families to plant backyard garden. Also, animal feeds for livestock farmers. These measures will ensure that meat, fresh fruits and vegetables are available in the short run for our residents.

We will continue to ensure that provisions are made to mitigate against all eventuality arising from COVID-19 to include infections, fatalities, food shortages, shortages of essential supplies.

We encourage further, similar as the call from the Government has been to maintain and observe the protocols that have been outlined by the Ministry of Health, Wellness and New Health Initiatives.  These are Social Distancing and practising Proper Hygiene.

We understand that combating COVID-19 requires a collective effort and we are pleased to join forces with the Kalinago Council and local stakeholders to prepare for any eventuality.

Anyway good to see my Kalinago brothers taking charge of their destiny but I caution about allowing politics to take over the council.

This Pandemic is the main ingredient in new National policy making, for starters, why not clamp down on Rum,Tobacco and Fetes? in the case of the Kalinago , Alcohol continue to ravage the remnants of the America’ original peoples. The time has come when the Kalinago and African people should not pay for the liquid that has Historically cause their demise. C-19 is the new dawn.

By no means do I want to glorify the drinking of excessive alcohol but want to remind you that alcohol has been a staple among the Kalinago for decades and has failed to destroy them regardless the of constant skepticism by what we call Neg (non-kalinagos). We should all aspire for good, healthy living but the same people crying down the Kalinago for taking a “likke” galbanzoe (albeit some overdo it sometimes) are the very ones who told them years ago coconut oil will kill them because of cholesterol. Now the same coconut oil is being promoted as the healthy alternative. Imagine that!! So my bro, leave the Kalinago alone when it comes to” firing their waters” 8) 8)

The alcohol doesn’t destroy them. They constantly destroy each other. Always pulling down the next man that trying a thing or the next girl that trying to start something to raise her child. When teachers can be on the road spreading rumours about young women that’s only trying to do something to raise there kids. You think is rum that causing that? Or is that caused by a mental slavery to not want to see another kalinago rise up?

They don’t drink any more than others. In their smear campaigns Europeans taught you thru their education system supported fully with Christian missionaries that they came hungry, lost at sea and Kalinagos ate them. Among the lies they called them cannibals, labeled them carib or savages for defending their land. But today when we read between the lines of all accounts we have figured out who came hungry and ate whom. Historians in their sinister role have also attempted to paint a similar pic of Black people by publishing that a black was the first to setup plantation in D’ca when it was actually white catholic Christians complete with their bibles. Oh the lies they feed us and you believe when you refuse to research further, the truth is out there.
