DNO, I know Dominicans used to seeing dead bodies, but your images are being beemed worldwide, including to young kids with Dominicans parents overseas (who never see anything like this in the media). I know you like to give maypwi right back to people so I am being careful.

It is just very unprofessional to keep putting dead bodies online. I do not think you will see this kind of behaviour in any professional media organisation. It is very very poor. I know it improves your viewings but let us try to respect the dead. Our mentality is that it’ll always happen to others but not us. There will always be the argument that every other outlet is doing it so why shouldn’t I? My response to that would be to get some class and be a trend setter rather than a follower.

I am a Dominican living in the US who visit Dominica almost every year. Recently, I am wary of visiting because of all the random crime happening there. I know a Dominican woman who lives in New York, was visiting Dominica (Pointe Michell) recently and someone tried to rob her one evening. She has been living in New York for over 40 years and nothing like that has happened to her! On vacation in Dominica (in Pointe Michell), someone tried to rob her! She was lucky she got away. The criminals know the visitors and target them!. If things continue like that, Dominicans abroad will stop coming home on vacation which will have a direct impact on the local economy.

Dominica right now is in a depressing state.
Everything thing seems to be going Badly Wrong and Nobody seem to know how to stop the Rot. Some of us do things that are contrary to our real human nature. Its like we are not aware of doing it until the sick rust of the salt incident occurs, that is when We conclude the realization of our fatal,or hospitalization,or Jailable Mistakes. That is what we call the *Metaphysical Sentimentality* of the Human nature. Ironically there are Diabolical Forces Roaming the streets of our country today more than ever before. Even in the Government service. That is one reason why the law is like a Cobweb,Strong enough to catch the weak,But too weak to catch the Strong!

    Binocular behind the dark window.

    Hold strong.

@Anonymous January 14, 2014 “Jesus is the answer, but sometimes we need to take a physical approach to solve a problem instead of jus saying pray about it..”

Anonymous, you have said it right! I may sound like a “Spiritual Giant” to most people, perhaps that is why I really think that the majority of us, Christians, are using the “prayer idea” with much hypocrisy–especially that those who are saying: pray, pray, pray, do not pray at all.

Jesus tells us that “without Him we can do
nothing” right here in those words we hear that “action” is needed for healthy production–by faith we allow Jesus to do His work of Life through our physical medium–even our word of mouth.

This means that we have to put our faith to work–that is what you are saying when you say: physical “approach” (I am saying “action”) is needed; but by our channel of faith in God, not in the strength or wisdom and understanding of human beings like ourselves–otherwise our words of prayer goes out fruitlessly–for faith without works is dead, just as the body without the Spirit is dead. James 2: 26 Blessings!

For the second time in this short month, DNO has decided to publish the photograph of a murdered victim on this website. Of what significance is it, and what legitimate public purpose does it serve for these photographs to be in the public domain? What of the privacy of the deceased victim’s family? Are we as a people so thirsty for gore that we relish on these images? I would think that simply knowing that a homicide has occurred would be enough; yet the images continue. Is there a law enforcement purpose to posting these?

It pains me to see the lack of empathy that is afforded to the deceased victims and their survivors, while there really does not seem to be a purpose for these postings. I would implore upon the editors of DNO to discontinue this absurd practice, and to truly consider the potential negative impact that these images have on the recovery of the surviving family members and friends of these victims. These images are now forever in cyberspace for anyone to see, whenever they want, and for whatever purpose they see fit.

I would be happy to discuss the issue with the appropriate DNO personnel. You currently have my email address. Thanks in advance for your consideration of my request.

Garvin, are you so backward that you are not aware that newspapers, electronic or otherwise make it mandatory to report the news attaching photographs of murdered victims, suspects, and also convicted criminals.

Don’t you know that a picture is worth more than a thousand words according to folklore; hence the story is enhanced by the picture? In Dominica, one cannot win; I have read people who ask DNO where is the picture, why is it they have not posted a picture?

Now you are objecting to the posting of the victims picture.

Guy, go on line and access any on-line News Media reporting crimes murders and what have you, and count how many dead body’s you find lying in the streets in comparisons to Dominica. It seems to me you are ashamed that Dominica has so many murderers in running around.

Covering up our nation evils does no good for the country, we have to face it, and confront the issue, if we have to return to the dread act to help curve the out of control crimes in country,so be it!

If fighting fire with fire is the alternative; we need to fight fire with fire!

It’s about time the Dominica Police Department start solving real crime on the island. The only thing they can solve is arrest and charge man for Ganja. So much paro in the place and you never hear them say how much cocaine and crack they take from the streets of Roseau. The Government need to give Scholarships to send people to go and learn to do proper investigating to solve such crimes. Such a shame everytime one goes on D>N>O to read what is taking place on our beautiful island all you can read is: POLICE ARREST AND CHARGE MAN WITH POSSESSION OF MARIJUANS (STUPES)

“Its time to call election so Skerrit will be out of Government and when Linton come there will be no more murders, no more hate and envy, no more violence.”(Lisa).

Lisa, Skerrit is not the major person who must be blame for the high volume of violence in the country. Prior to Skerrit there was violence; I doubt Skerrit ever influence the murder of anyone in our country; as far as I know; and I got that via communication with him directly; the man Skerrit despised and has no tolerance for violence, nor criminal activities; I can give him credit for that.

Every Dominican must take responsibility for what we have allowed our country to become!

Nevertheless, whether he remains Prime Minister or not, unless the nation stand and protest these violent acts; refuse to sit and watch criminals commit crimes, and do nothing, say nothing to the police to aid in the capture of the perpetrators of crime in the country; not a single person on the island will ever be assured of their safety, and by that I mean not even Skerrit himself.

I agree, as it is said, “an idle mind is the devils workshop.” When people have nothing to do they peruse the unthinkable, they indulged in the consumption of illegal drugs, and alcohol, they become delusion, and in their delusional state they become angry, and this anger does not quenched until they commit a crime which under normal circumstance they would not have committed.

Some people have chemical imbalances in the brain, which is undetected, as such there will forever be criminals, these are more or less born criminals. One of the problems right now is that the lack of jobs and employment breaths frustration, and aroused uncontrollable anger which leads to murder, and such heinous crimes.

Indeed most people want to be productive, they want to make progress, everybody wants to become wealthy by some legitimate means, but the way things are in Dominica right now all hopes, and dreams of the young are sheltered because they exists without any job prospects.

If the UWP wins this election, they had better have a plan, a workable one, not a talking one, nonetheless a plan that will be able to influence some new industries, we need to be in a position to employ at least thirty (30%) percent of the nation in the interim if we are going to see some real change in the country which might cause a reduction in the crime rate; other than that, we might as well revise the dread act!

Did you listen to yourself? “If the UWP wins this election, we need to be in a position to employ at least thirty (30%) percent of the nation” to see some “real change” in the country which might cause a “reduction in the crime rate;”

Sadly, the main purpose of this meeting was to dissuade Dominicans living in NY in accepting tickets and other forms of incentives in return for coming down to Dominica and vote. No mentioned was made of this growing crime epidemic that exist in Dominica and the measures to be taken to address this. As a matter of fact, no mentioned was made of any specific measures to be taken to fix any of Dominicas onging issues. Until government take this thing very seriously, it will not only continue but it will get worse.

      “cite”
I have previously stated this. Have you ever considered, what happened to Dominica in the previous years, all sorts of religions infiltrated Dominica, saying they are saving people and caused some to renounce their Catholic Faith and joined their churches?
Those once practicing Catholics turned enemies of the Catholic Church as I have observed especially through their comments on this Website.
Do you think God was blind and deaf to their hate comments? Since then and now, crimes of every nature have escalated.
To a certain extent, you can say that God is extremely angry, not only with the goings-on in Dominica but with the other islands and no exception the progressive ones for many more people have become godless and some have renounced their Catholic Faith to join other churches. Open your heart and mind to this.
What with also two men and two women in a sexual relationship and some nations have legislated this abomination of same sex marriage.
Some governments have also legislated marijuana and there are more abominations which highly offend God that some governments have approved of. Do you think these are pleasing to God?
Under these conditions, if you expect the world to be better, become better and to be free of crimes, you are highly mistaken. It is getting worst.
Our Lord Jesus Christ, The Divine Mercy said: “Unless mankind turns to My Merciful Heart there will be no peace.” This includes no decrease in crimes. Cry for your country.

Fellow Dominicans, I keep reading over and over that we need change in Dominica; unfortunately the change that we are calling for is the change of men and women with authority and leadership in our country.

I am saying unfortunately, because that is not the change that will be effective for the welfare of our Dominica–the change that is so badly needed must come from within each and everyone of us; it is the change for Life and not the continuous action of death that is so rampant among us. There is no “political giant” who will be able to provoke our desire for that change in us–we must allow our mind to produce that desire for that change–which must happen from within.

When we have people with no respect for the Life of their fellow man–to the point that they can use a knife, a cutlass, a gun or any of those other weapons of death, as if they were using a toy to play with people’s Life–we have to acknowledge that those people are not acting as human beings; those people need to be put away until it is time for them to return to their primary form of dust–God is very unhappy with the attitude and conducts of these people.

As human beings we were given the ability of “reasoning” above all of God’s other creation, too many of us behave as we do not know how to use that attribute in us–we behave like cats and dog, and most destructively, like the wild beasts of the forest.

Yes, it is true that we can experience all the emotions–like hate, anger, jealousy, and envy; they are all bad for us–but that is the reason we need the virtue of “self-control” it is one of the nature of God’s Holy Spirit–He who created us to live through Love.

As human beings we are not supposed to act like the lower animals, the way that so many of us are doing, for we do not want to be treated like them, not ever.

And so, Dear God I call for Your mercy and compassion of Love, on behalf of the innocent, the weak, and the ignorant of fellow Dominicans–I ask that You will deliver them from the evil wrath of those who do not know You and Your ways of Life in Love–I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, who is Your Person in Love. Anen!

Elizabeth, that is your philosophy, you need to remember even in Jesus day politics existed, that is why Jesus said “Render Unto Caesar The Things That Are Caesar” you know the rest. God gave the people of Israel King to rule over them.

The duty of the King has always been to look after the peoples welfare, and keep them safe. The kings however never lasted forever, and I am not going to detail how some of those kings were removed from power when they either abused or misused their power, or did nothing of consequence for the people.

The love of God that you talk about has nothing to do with politics; if a politician is not producing for the people and country, it is the duty of the people to have them replaced. Fortunately for us in Dominica, and the Caribbean we replace our leaders via the ballet box in a voting booth; it is because of the God kind of love we are afforded such kind privilege.

When it is time for a change the people know it, and with love they make that change; your thinking is that if you love the politicians you leave them alone until they die from natural causes, in the meanwhile their citizens, and subjects die from starvation and wants of the basic necessities.

I do not believe that is how God intend it to be!

And right now you have one thumbs down, the number two is my thumbs down oui!

You think I doh know you campaigning for your new found political friend, the one that fill your belly with food which caused you not to go and visit with the other friend.

      Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha: take that.

Francisco, you have your own opinion which I do not care nothing about–you should know that by now. For the sake of the “hell” which you are preparing to go to “leave my opinions alone” because you cannot comprehend my wisdom.

I do not need your biblical lecture, neither does the rest of us bloggers on DNO, you have no spiritual qualification to lecture us about the Word of God–you stupid idiot!

What does the Scripture quote which you stated above have to do with what I wrote in my comment? Why don’t you stay in your “twilight zone environment” it will do you better–no one needs you around them.

      • January 16, 2014

“And right now you have one thumbs down, the number two is my thumbs down oui!”–Francisco

So what! You simply added yourself to make up the three fools, the three stooges, or the “idiot one” of “the idiot” “the fool” and “the dummy”– who cannot read with comprehension. How can you guys discern the things of the Spirit?

The three of you are among those human beings who function with the sole control of a “carnal mind”–if I were you I would not tell DNO audience that I am one among 3 those idiots above. Don’t you see that I have 9 wise people with me? So the joke is on you! Heheheheehehe!

Dominica is an island ,every thing is fine with the island ;none the less the problem which has
become a gangrene is the Dominican gov’t , without excluding those who work in the court house they are not giving any punishment to deter such criminal actions .95% of murderers have been set free…free to continue like a man from the south of the island who is on his second murder after he killed an old lady then a male nurse…he was never arrested for the old lady ,while every body knows that he did it…I said to myself ;any one who is not arrested for a first murder will
continue and he killed a nurse months after….he is still free..
message to the politicians …sooner or later your family will be killed then you all will start taking serious actions against these criminals .Now ,you all politicians are not feeling that pain that other poor people are feeling but later will tell.Enough is enough..Dominicans like myself be strong GOD is looking over us do not give up .

    January 13, 2014

Boy, this is truly sad man. Just over the weekend I was counting the days of the year that we didn’t have a vehicle fatality or a homicide and now in one day we have two.

I am not meaning to be political but a fair share of the blame for all that violence falls squarely on the shoulders of the government.

There are two cardinal rules for shaping human traits; reward good deeds, punish bad deeds. If man had known that if I go and kill this man then I going to hang, there would be less murders period. If man had known that if I do certain crimes such as rape etc, then I going to get whipped then there would be less crime period.

I mean whatever goody-two-shoes way we practicing there is not working. It is time to try something new, no in fact something old; put fear in the hearts of criminals, bad man and gangstaz.

No I will not be ignorant and say that ‘no law, no constitution thingy’ and it is Skerrit’s fault that, but he sure is in the position to damn well do something about it…

How many more Dominicans how many more?

Those of us that keep thinking is more prayer and fasting we need in Dominica, you better read Joshua 7:1-12. It was the accursed thing that God told them to stay away from that was killing them. When Joshua saw how they were dying he began to pray and fast but that did not stop the curse. In fact God told him to stop praying and fastening and start to deal with the evils. And it was when he judged the evils of Achan the curse was lifted. Similarly, we have an accurse thing cherishing in Dominica and those that know better are calling wrong right. we are playing with fire and mark my words. It is not about UWP or DLP. It is about unrighteousness of man we are applauding as a nation.

let’s do some maths, Trinidad has 1,300,000 people with 27 murders, Dominica has 70,000 with 2 murders, which is worse off statistically, percentage for Trinidad less than 1% (0.002076923)and for Dominica it is also less than 1% (0.002857143)… oops Dominica is higher by a few percentage points… do the maths… so stop the petty comparism, the crime rate at 13/01/2014 in Dominica is higher than Trinidad

      • Observer
        January 14, 2014

Of course we are competing. It is competing when you look at the ratio of Trinidads’ population compared to ours.

      • badrep
        January 14, 2014

ICON you ever heard of the term proportional or ratio, well if Trinidad have more than 13.5 times Dominica population then Dominica have a higher murder rate than Trinidad.

      • Anonymous
        January 14, 2014

2 is quite a lot for a small island like Dominica. So yes we’re competing in a sense, even though Trinidad is 27. The Population ration matches.

      • Mango-Bab
        January 14, 2014

Is not only a matter of putting the figures side by side, i.e. 27 vs 2. Trinidad’s population is several times that of Dominica’s. In 2012, Trinidad’s population was 1.337 million, while Dominica’s population is barely 70,000 (0.07 million). So, do the maths.

      • Mojo1
        January 14, 2014

        @ icon
You forgot one thing. Trinidad’s population is 21 times that of Dominica. This means that technically Dominica does indeed possess a higher crime rate than Trinidad. And Trinidad’s greater socio-economic circumstances were not even factored in. So “Wait a Minuit” is on to something.

      • Marcus Hill
        January 14, 2014

Actually, if your count of 27 murders in Trinidad is accurate (and I suspect it is since I read somewhere that there were 19 murders in one week)then Dominica’s murder rate is almost twice as bad as that of Trinidad’s.

You see, the murder rate is measured in number of murders per hundred thousand of the population of a country.

So for Trinidad with a population on 1,400,000, the 27 murders represent a murder rate of 1.93 per hundred thousand(27/14) while Dominica’s murder rate (based on 69,000 population) would be almost twice that of Trinidad’s at 2.9 per hundred thousand (2/0.69).

      • So Sad
        January 14, 2014

Compare Trinidad’s population to ours. Do a ratio if u did Math at school. Practically the same. We are competeing. Totally agree with “Wait a Minute”

      • Anonymous
        January 14, 2014

Icon if you do the math you will see that wait a minute is quite correct! Statistically we are worse than Trinidad! They have 1 per 44,000 persons! We have 1 per 35,000!

      • Hasta la Victoria
        January 14, 2014

Icon, wait a minute is quite right. Statistically We are actually worse than Trinidad. They have 1 per 44,000 persons. We have 1 per 35,000 assuming that we do have 70,000 people in Dominica!

        January 14, 2014

do the math ICON. One murder is too much in Dominica. While u may say Trinidad has 27 look at its population and look at DA population. divided it by the total and multiply by 100 c the rate. Then tell me 2 murders is not already too many.
so instead or responding to my comments c wat u can do to educate people about tolerance and love for each other.

    January 13, 2014

Something is definitely wrong with Dominica and if we are not careful to mend our ways by the time we will try to stop that curse we might just be too late. Just earlier this morning we had one stabbed to death and less than 24 hrs later, one is short to death. Folks, today is just the 13th day of 2014. Where is the church in the midst of all of these evils? But then again how can the church address these ills when our religious leaders are blessing what they know is wrong and allow others to be referred to as Jesus without saying a thing? How can the church speak now when they Christians busy trying to refer to a man whose fruits they know are evil simply because they want to get his money to build or repair their church? All I can say is sin is a reproach to any nation and when those who suppose to know better fail to condemn wrong that they would have been swift to condemn if someone else had done it, what then shall we expect other than blood shed on our streets?

    • Concerned Citizen
      January 13, 2014

Isn’t the church all of us?

      • Not Me Alone
        January 13, 2014

yes the church might be all of us but not all of us have that voice of influence. Most with that influencial voice use it for their personal gain and cannot condemn the evils around us.

    • Simply the Truth
      January 13, 2014

Why are you blaming the Church? Why not blame yourself? We are the Church, when we are inside it worshipping and when we leave it to go out into the world. Our conduct in words and deeds should match our religious beliefs and teachings. This includes our comments on this Website.
If you are a Catholic, this is what the priest says at the end of Holy Mass after he blesses the congregation, a blessing which God blesses from above: “Go in peace, to love and serve the Lord.” The congregation responds: “Thanks be to God.”
Therefore, whose fault it is that those murders occur? There are too many godless people who have rejected God, the faith and the church. This is the result of overall godlessness.
What are you doing to make Dominica a safe place and eradicate murders? You condemn others but you deserve to be condemned.
Do something good and pray fervently. Live The Ten Commandments of God and The Beatitudes. You are in it too. Therefore examine your conscience and act accordingly.
