President of the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) Lillian Piper, has revealed that this year’s Shop Dominica promotion was successful.
In an interview with DNO, Piper stated that despite the fact that all the data have not been collected, the responses thus far have been positive.
“Over 160 stores participated this year including hotels, restaurants, bars, and retail shops and we found that Dominicans were purchasing differently, instead of a whole mass off people out shopping this year people did their window shopping early and went in and picked it up on that day,” Piper remarked. She pointed out that the business owners of both small and big business who have responded so far, all indicated that the promotion, which was held from August 2nd to 5th was positive.
“What was different this year was that people had a lot of notice,” she said. “They looked for their things, put it on hold, then came back and picked it up … some businesses even extended the period beyond the weekend. We measured the event based on a number of things, such as the branding of the event, the people’s response to the event, the participation which was increased from last year and we are still measuring the economic difference that it made but from the few that we have gotten responses from, it has been very positive.”
According to her, the time of the promotion was a very comfortable time of the month for people to spend. She noted that it worked well with their calendar and they were able to inquire about products and services prior to spending. She said that the promotion also benefited people from the French territories of Guadeloupe and Martinique who came to Dominica on the ferry and did some shopping.
Shop Dominica is an initiative which is spearheaded by the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC), the Dominica Hotel & Tourism Association (DHTA), the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) and the Dominica Manufacturers Association (DMA).
Shop Dominica was held from August 2 -4.
Below are some photos taken during the event.
What happened this year? I was very disappointed. You all came out so good last year!!! Awwwww, allu kill the vibez this year wee pal. This event was not properly planned this year.
On a scale from 1 – 10 with 1 being poor and 10 being excellent, I will give the organizers a 5 for their efforts.
Shop What? AA, I didn’t even realize that pass already.
Total fail this year. Last year was exceptional, exciting and certainly had more people out shopping.
I’m certainly not motivated to participate again.
Well, well, well. It seems the Glam did exceptionally well this year. Hmmm, Miss Piper, please make sure your information is accurate before speaking to the media. It was not so at all. If you are speaking of the Glam then I understand, but please don’t measure your success and assume everyone did well like you.
This year was not excited as last year’s Shop Dominica.
Was this story made up? Last year’s Hype was way better.
Seems that Miss Piper is speaking of her own business. I don’t think the information she gave is accurate at all. It seems that the “Shop Dominica Deemed Successful” is maybe from a Glam’s point of view? Hmmmmmmmm. Furthermore a list of participants was forwarded to the media houses and participants were at 90. How did she reach 160?
