Skerrit calls for cessation of verbal attacks on Barbados and its PM

PM Skerrit with the Barbados leader

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has called on those responsible, to stop the verbal attacks leveled at Prime Minister Mia Mottley of Barbados following the relocation of the Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) to that country.

“I wish to call on all who are accountable, to cease and desist from the unwarranted verbal attacks on the Government and Prime Minister of Barbados and by extension on all Barbadians. The decision to relocate to Barbados was a decision taken solely by Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM),” the prime minister said in a statement issued today (Saturday 11, 2018). “The relationship between Barbados and Dominica is longstanding and amicable. The people and Government of Barbados have always stood with us both in good times and most recently in difficult times.”

Mia Mottley has come under fire by her own Barbadian people and some across the region, for “poaching” RUSM from Dominica, forcing her to issue a response in which she stated that “the hands of the Barbados Government are clean in this matter.”

One of her harshest critics has been Herbert Volney, former Supreme Court Justice of Trinidad, who has Dominican and St. Lucian parentage. In an article published on August 6, in Caribbean News Now, Volney condemned Mottley’s decision for allowing her country, according to him, to be used as a pawn of imperialist capital for maximization of profit for Adtalem. He labelled Mottley’s move as “cruel and a declaration of war against Dominica adding, “It runs against the grain of everything that is CARICOM.” Seeking to stop the move, the former supreme court justice sent a public letter to Caricom asking for intervention in the matter.

But in her response, Mottley made it “absolutely clear” that Barbados came into the picture, only when, for Ross University, returning to Dominica for the start of the January semester in 2019, was not an option.

“This is not and has never been a case of poaching or enticing anyone away from Dominica,” the Barbados prime minister stated emphatically.

Prime Minister Skerrit, in the release, reminded Dominicans that Mia Mottley was part of the Barbados government that first assisted Dominica with a US$10 million loan on concessional terms in 2002 “when we were at the mercies of the IMF.” He recounted the tireless involvement of Ms. Mottley, then in opposition, in relief efforts for Dominica after Tropical Storm Erika and Hurricane Maria.

“I do not think it is right, neither do I support any attacks on Prime Minister Mottley and the Government of Barbados,” Skerrit declared. “I reiterate my call to all Dominicans, including those who support me, that these attacks are not in our best interests nor to our benefit. It is not the Dominican way. It is not who we are!”

The full release from Prime Minister Skerrit is posted below.

Read the Bible. God appointed Saul as King and removed him because of wrongdoing. God appointed
Moses and Put Joshua instead to reach promise land. God never appoints any man forever to lead. The wriitng is on the wall for the beloved Pm. His time has come to step aside. Why? The country is regressing and going to the dogs. Imagine Whitchurch cannot pay their workers and Nep is paying their workers. Just go and ask for yourself. We are heading for a precipice and if we don’t change course we will end up killing each other. Take it from me. My beloved PM I like the fact you help the poor and needy, however it’s time now for you to step down and give to someone else in your party to lead and I mean step down today. Pa waste pou moon jete ou dejon.

For once in your lives, my fellow Dominicans, can you see this outside of politics – red, blue, I dont love you? Post maria was a prime opportunity for Ross U to show appreciation, love and respect for Dominica. If after 40 years of business, not friendship, it couldn’t invest in the rebuilding efforts in order to restore the school and continue operations, then it shouldn’thave been there in the first place.
It is all about $$$$(MONEY)! My grand mother used to say, “Largen, ka fet zounbie dance.” Ross U, was not a friend.
Today is Barbados’ turn, they have the money; tomorrow, Dominica’s.
    God bless.

“Oh what a tangled web they weave” when the Punjab PhD and his Intellectually Dishonest Cabal continued to “practice to deceive”; and lie to the Dominican people and the world by extension. In trying to spin the RUSM debacle they ended up like a train wreck with the political carriages all tangled up while crashing into each other. As usual they just ended up doing what they do best Deception, Lies and Propaganda which no person with basic commonsense is buying except the “Low Life and Low IQ” DLP supporters; They went after PM Mia Mottly knife ,hook and sinker; threw the kitchen sink at her and the coward Punjab PhD did not have the testicular fortitude to call them out by name. Leadership is everything bro; shame on you Doc-tar.

Ross’s departure was a business decision and not a personal attack on the Pm and the people of Dominica. I expected to hear the rant all these empty vessels make the most noise. We need to address our natural impediments more seriously than that, bottom line.

Don’t shift the focus from you to the Bagan PM. YOU are solely responsible for the departure of Ross. The Bagan PM proved that she is a good leader who is looking out for the best interest of her people. She sacrificed what she could to gain a 1% GPD of her country’s economy, while you were derelict in your leadership by losing a 30% GDP contributor to Dominica.

If Skerrit is not a Fool, then He’s Certainly a Con. How can he say we were ready by July 9th in his letter to Ross and Mia Motley says the Gov’t advised her we would not be ready even by January, 2019.
Then he says don’t blame Mia and don’t bash Ross..Dominicans open your eyes, this man is hiding something or he’s shooting in the dark.

The cats have been let out of the bag. It was, and all Dominicans know that, Skerritt’s supporters, spokesmen, Members of the Cabal who let off their venom on the Barbados leader. Such arrogance and blaming others for whatever wrong they do, concocting up stories after stories, falsehoods after falsehoods, are backfiring.

Skerritt and his incompetent DLP Cabal are confusing themselves in the melee of continuous lies.

Whose fools are you for you not to see through those lies and deceit? That’s in their DNA. They thrive, day and night, on doing the wrong, then blaming someone else for the wrong they have done.

Clearly, Skerritt and his DLP Gov’t FAILED and continue to fail the Dominican people miserably.

I really do hope lennox make an example out of them this time. Mr PM, it is your supporters who is crying down the barbados PM the last i heard Dominicans were putting all the blame on you and your ministers/friends and rightfully so. You are the ones who caused this and got us Dominicans and especially the people of portsmouth into this mess and now you’re jumping up and down with your hand on your head because you have no clue what to do.
You always say you know things….you kneq about who set the fire atvthe airport yet still no arrest…you knew who you said tried to over throw you and yet still no arrest….now you know how to get us out of this mess?……come on….you really think we are that dumb…or are we?…hummmmm.

He need to give Dominicans a chance to vent instead of coming on the defense. After 40 years a University just pack up and left, because the Management, (shareholders), funders, student, and parent support the move. After 40 years Dominica should have owned 60% of the shares. You sit and allowed this University to leave just like that, because you are not a business man. Dr. Ross must be crying in his grave.
As Prime Minister I would have invested in this University big time. I would have bought most of the shares invested in an amusement park, zoo, night life etc. This whole area would be a little American city to accommodate students and their families. It is all gone. Ponder on this for a minute. It could not be easy for any business establishment to transfer business to a neighboring country after forty years. It had to be for very profound reasons. My problem with Skerrit’s kleptocracy is that they blame everybody (Linton & supporters, Ms. Motley, Barbarians, Ross) and everything (Erika & Maria) and have not done any self analysis. Mr. Skerrit, his Cabinet Ministers, his Senior Counsels, his highly paid foreign Advisors, none of them has not even taken 0.1% of the blame for the RUSM fiasco. Everybody else is at fault except them. How could they be spotlessly clean when they are in control? This clearly shows the haughtiness and extreme arrogance of these nakedly corrupt troglodytes.

  21. August 12, 2018

My concern is Skerit weakness as a leader an educated man,(1) We have opposit leaders underminding him causing them to incite violence in our country all these caused Ross University to leaved Dominica as well (2) Linton shouldve taken to custody when they had the destruction in the city for investigation ,And he threaten to stoned the police this opposition leader has cited multiple violence,Now my advice to Mr.Skerit if linton try this again take him to custody he will humble him self,Because he wouldnt like to taken to custody again ,Mr.Skerit stop your weakness be a strong leader to protect the citizen of this country.

Skerrit likes food just like Esau and when I see him on table eating with world leaders or rich person I get so frightened because I k ow for a plate of food the man can sign any contact against Dominica, just as he did with NG Lap Seng in 2015. Ms. Mottley said she was first told about that Ross thing by Ross on May 31 but knowing Skerrit and remembering how he said on May 28 that he was the first leader to meet Ms. Mottley, I would not at all be surprised to hear that it was at that time Skerrit finalized that deal with Barbados

@Tobby – When one door is closed many more shall be opened? But where all you does get these cliche statements from nuh? Do you know that these sort of statements, though nice sounding, do not necessarily apply to every situation in life. What if the proverbial house of opportunity in this instance has only one door which should never have been shut?

There are some opportunities once lost that can never be regained in any form.

When God provides an opportunity for someone to excel and that someone takes that opportunity and willfully squanders it, do you think it is fair to say, don’t worry man God will provide another opportunity?

God does not reward gross incompetence, laziness and willful foolishness.

It is foolish to blame Mia Mortly for anything related to Ross. A die bard blind supporter of the labour party was first one to send me the article from Mr. Volney and i asked him why would this guy say that. Volney is stuck in the 1940s and part of the old Caribbean mindset that failed us the young folks in bid for federation and Caricom unity. Mia Mortly has an opportunity and obligation the help Barbados and she is doing just that. Barbados has positioned itself to attract foriegn investment and growth. The only fools to blame is the labour party specifically skerrit and his ferible economic and development policies. No one else. He has been 18 years of failure. Only lazy and idle people make soo much excuses for thier crap. Skerrit have used the beggar and helpless mentality to get aid and money from all sorts of characters presenting Dominica as helpless. After erika he cancelled WCMF so the world would not see us having fun so he could get aid. His own words. What is better

These men are like radioactive potato, they contaminate everything they touch. Imagine, they know the gospel truth about the departure of Ross U, yet they ascribed blame to innocent persons just to deflect culpability from their Money God, Mr. Skerrit. This insincere letter should be verbalized by the PM to his cabal, Astaphan et al. They are the ones perpetuating this storyline by distorting and mangling the facts. There is a saying, “let Politicians do politicking and Soldiers do soldiering”.

Clearly, what I’m about to say is deep. It is my believe that we should ignore the politics of this Ross issue. I think the most important thing to concentrate on at this time is how are we going to move Dominica forward.

I say let bygone be bygones. The truth is that Ross had been planning to exit Dominica for years. If not Barbados it would be some other island. Globally, corporations migrate for profits.

Now, I am not an economist or a genius, but what I do know is that countries are more successful when they trade instead of living on aid.

I suggest everyone research the legal. but global benefits of hemp.

Instead of begging institutions and countries for our economical empowerment. With this momentum, let’s prioritize our economic rights. Utilize what we have (rich fertile soil) and lets trade some hemp and medicinal marijuana.

No matter what Dr. Skerrit says the fact shows that Caribbean leaders are outsmarting him and that is rather frightening to say the least. First it was Grenada’s prime minister Ralph Gonsalves that tricked Skerrit our international airport from us, just as Jacob tricked Esau for a bowl of soup and took his birthright from him in Gen. 25. Then it was Trinidad and Tobago that betrayed Dominica in March, when they took objection to Dominica’s request for a waiver of it’s OAS fees and voted against Dominica. Then in St. Kitts and Nevis Dominica is in the middle of passport controversy when somehow Skerrit blessed him with our Diplomatic Passport. Go to Bridgetown Barbados it is the new PM of Barbados that just walked in and grabbed Ross from a veteran Pm like Skerrit. Let’s not forget St. Kitts also took Ameijet from us. In St. Lucia the future of our Kubuli factory is in trouble. Ross must have looked at all the above and said Dominica is unsafe with Hurricane Skerrit

“I reiterate my call to all Dominicans, including those who support me, that these attacks are not in our best interests nor to our benefit. It is not the Dominican way. It is not who we are!”

Only those supporting you are using Mia as their scape goat. Speak to your supports directly. You ashamed of their behaviour? Tell them so directly. Don’t mask it!

Your supporters are the ones finding excuses for your failures. Not all Dominicans just your support base…call their names say “Tony…simeon…..Herbert….and the others.

Well Skerrit to be honest, I NEVER accused Barbados or their PM of anything. In fact I profusely praised Mia Motley for looking out for Barbados.
!!! You are the Caribbean weakest PM,out of your depths among educated people so you are taken advantage of because of your laziness and incompetence.
There are many ways of calling a man lazy,or joker or incompetent. Here is one way.
“””We went to Barbados, because the government (the Bajan government) has a bias to getting things done””‘.This means the country I am leaving has a lazy leader.A Joo Joo, a Mar jee leader,a mackak wee bunch of MISLEADERS.

Why would DNO publish such garbage and on the other hand refuse to publish some sensible comments.
The world is reading from this website.

        August 12, 2018

Born Dominican, many of us are asking the same question. Many people stop reading D N O because of this slant. But I guess Dominica will always have its challenges. What does not kill us will make us stronger and our resolve more urgent. I notice that many strangers are sympathetic to our difficulties but our own people insist on dragging us down. But we can learn from these negatives and clear a path forward. People, organizations and foreign governments helping us are insulted for their generousity. THIS IS ALREADY GIVING US BAD NAMES. “UNGRATEFUL and UNAPPRECIATIVE”.
We do not have any foreign enemies. All our problems are home grown by opposition forces who have nothing to offer but hateful words. And D N O is enabling them.

ADMIN: Your comment is very much appreciated.

It is always easier to point the finger and blame someone else for the problems we face. Remember DNO publishes comments from all perspectives. In that way we serve as a mirror for the people. Sometimes, when people look into a mirror they may not like what they see.

All you guys need to stop apologising for a PM who has proven to be totally incompetent in office. All you need to open your eyes and face the facts: your PM is a liar and a thief and has all but destroyed our country!

There goes Skerrit again. He let loose Vince Henderson and Tony Astaphan on Kairi trying to make the Barbados prime minister look like a liar, he let loose the singing Herbert Volney, and after the newspaper in Barbados criticize him and tell Dominicans it is Skerrit that is to blame for losing Ross, he wants to come out looking like a hero with a shameful statement on a Saturday. Shame.

To Skerritt.A noble gesture of response but to quote these most noteworthy words in the bible
No man can serve Two masters He will hate one and love the other
To you i say choose which master you prefer to serve
The people of Dominica or the PM of Barbados and its interest
The voices of your people are crying out not because of hate but because of a level of disgust in seeing their economy once again delivered a heavy blow by a friend

Skerrit, I’m really really getting fed up with you. It is only your supporters that head this smear campaign against Barbados in order to distract from YOUR responsibility in this matter. If you was as man you call these people by their names. Admit that you have failed Dominica in a big way. There is more to leading a country then selling it’s passports and emptying it’s bank accounts. You need to step down otherwise we will take you down.

Judging by the comments on DNO that criticism did not come from their readers, who overwhelmingly condemn mr. Skerrit rather than Ms. Mottley. Our Prime Minister should look among his own supporters first if he wants to castigate blame.

P .M. Mottley said something and its hard for me to believe when she said she knew Ross choice Barbados in May 2018 to relocate from Dominica to Barbados.People have the right to speculate because people dont know the entire story, Ross University spent 40years in our country and grow itself there there were no clue Ross would leave to relocate to Barbados, I believed Ross didnt only leave Dominica because of the devastation of hurricane Maria did to it campus ,

“I wish to call on all who are accountable, to cease and desist from the unwarranted verbal attacks on the Government and Prime Minister of Barbados and by extension on all Barbadians. ”

Shut up Roosevelt; nobody is attacking Mia because Ross University moved to Barbados, and let us not term it relocate because they did not leave Barbados and came to Dominica, and eventually return to Barbados.

We are blaming you because you a lying idiot who continued to lie to Ross about building International Airport, knowing you and the Labor Party do not have any intention of building an International Airport in Dominica.

Running to Barbados for a photo opportunity with Mia Mottle, is not going to change the fact that you are an incompetent idiot!

That lady did not call Ross University and ask them to leave our country, the same as Dragon Windows left you high and dry and went to Barbados to to do they same business business they did in Dominica.

Mr. Volney now has raw egg splattered all over his face. Anyone with a modicum of commonsense knows that the baseless accusations against Mia Motley and Barbados are a diversionary attempt to shift the blame for Ross U departure from Dominica to Barbados from the real culprits, Skerrit and his subservient bunch of misleaders. Accreditation issues or lack thereof that the Dominican government failed to resolve, were at the heart of the matter. The inadequacy of air access, bad roads and bridges, insufficient social, recreational and shopping facilities added to the disaffection. Dominica will soar like an eagle when the electorate flog the current ruling regime with their votes.

But why is it , no one answers the question, as to why Ross would not be able to be back in Dominica come January 2019?

  54. I must admit
    August 12, 2018

Skerro you think you are not the cause of the divorce boy? You think you were not unfaithful ? You think Ross don’t know you dirty and you fraid they exposed you? I find it very strange that Ross and DA are now divorced after 40 long years on happiness and somehow you are quick to defend Ross and to arrange in secret how fruits of that marriage are to be distributed. Isn’t that the job of the Court after hearing both sides? Doesn’t that sound iffy boy? If Ross is not at fault, Barbados is not at fault, the opposition is not at fault then Dominica, through you seems to be at fault. Why the cover-up? What are you hiding from us? I know they are not the same and not connected but that entire thing reminds me of the ongoing saga between Trump and Russia, where Trump seems to be covering Russia. Do we call that DIRT? If yes then let’s clean the dirt

  55. I want to know
    August 12, 2018

So a 40 year old marriage between Dominica and Ross ended though according to pm Skerrit they renewed their vows 3 years ago for another 25 years. But in any divorce one party or both parties are usually at fault. But we know Ross is not at fault because PM Skerrit told us from day one that Ross still loves Dominica and tried everything to see if the marriage would continue. Do Ross is no at fault period . Then since Barbados took our spouse from us friends of Dominica like Herbert Volney, called out Barbados even if is in false pretense. But again Skerrit clears Barbados and makes it clear that Bardos was not at fault. Then the next set of people to blame is the opposition. But although Reggie accused them of interfering but again Skerrit embarrassed Reggie by saying it was Erica and Maria. But you notice the other spouse, Dominica or Skerrit has not been blamed? Could it be that Day or Skerrit is at fault! You think Ross might not have some bad dirt on Skerrit so he defending them

It is YOU Roosevelt Skerrit & your incompetent government who are to be blamed for Ross departure after 40 years. It’s under y’all fellas watch this tragedy occurred and history will record all you names for this.

Why didn’t Ross leave Dominica in 1995 after Dominica was affected by 3 storms that year ie Hurricane Marilyn, Lewis & Iris? After all is the “hurricane-hit-us-that’s-why-Ross-left” excuse y’all fellas trying to push.

Why didn’t Adtalem Global Education permanently relocate American University of the Caribbean (AUC) Medical School from St Maarten? Adtalem also owns AUC. St Maarten was ravaged by Hurricane Irma last year which forced AUC to temporarily relocate its classes to England. AUC classes have since resumed in 2018 (guess where?) In de same St Maarten that was mashed up; in de same St Maarten that in the same hurricane zone as Dominica.

We’ll see what amount of black, white & grey propaganda y’all fellas going to attempt to save all you self.

The attack on Ms. Volney and Barbados was well planned by members of team Skerrit. They knew very well that Skerrit’ boobooed, so their plan was to see how they could shield him and find a way to make Linton look as the bad one as seen with the leaked information of Skerrit’ and Feb 7, 2017 Roseau fire. So 1. Reggie says uwp wrote letter 2. When they understood Ross was going to make announcement a day later, captain Skerrit ran ahead to prepare us and convince us that Ross was not at fault it was Erica and Maria. Really Skerrit? 3. Friends of Skerrit’ with a legal mind like Tony, Volney and Vince Henderson blamed it on Barbados to the point that Volney even wrote letter to CARICUM as a cover up. But Linton did not take the bait and remained focused on the issue and pushing for an inquiry, which we must get and will reveal a lot of who put the cookies in the cookie jar. 5. Since that didn’t work Skerrit now calling on all to clear Barbados and Ms. Mottley. But Skerro is ur boys wii

  60. My little take
    August 11, 2018

What I have a problem with is the hypocrisy and untruthfulness of Mr. Skerrit. I have been following this Ross thing from the moment Skerrit announced the departure of Ross and at no time have I heard Mr. Linton or any member of the UWP attack PM Mottley. It is friends and members of Skerrit’s inner circle like Herbert Volney, Vince Henderson and Anthony Astaphan that raised questions about Ms. Mottley. After all Skerrit if you have a problem with what your friends and spin doctors are saying why not call them by name and tell them they are wrong. You told the nation that Ross is not at fault and Barbados is not at fault. Did you tell your friends and spin doctors something different or, they just decide to use Ms Mottley as the problem so people don’t focus on the real cause of the issue which seems to be getting uglier each day? Mr. Skerrit why were you so busy to defend Ross as if you know think they might have some dirt on you. You remind me of Trump and the Russians man.

Even nature….. has turned against you, Bro. After Cabrits, if my own people: Possie people…do not open their eyes to see maybe even God is slowly turning his back, as I have turned my back on Labour after the Ross debacle, then I do not know what more has to happen for you to see.

But, if instead it is not nature and it is HAARP hitting Possie and DA like this because of (Dominica Economic Citizenship Program ), I can tell you, we are in for a long long hall, and there is going to be lots more sufferings.

There was a time when the forefront of the push back against oppression came from Portsmouth, what has happened to us as a progressive people who did not stand for nonsense.

Earthquake in Roseau, the Heaven(s) is sending a message, and we had better take heed and listen.
