Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit publicly congratulate the new Kalinago Chief Lorenzo Sandford for being one of the youngest men to be elected in this position.

“I want to congratulate Mr. Lorenzo Sanford, who has created history in the Territory by being one of the youngest men to be elected Kalinago Chief. We expect that he will bring fresh ideas and a new vigour to the Territory,” he stated.

The Prime Minister said the Government will work with the new Kalinago Chief, and other local community leaders, to continue the efforts at improving the quality of life and expanding the economic opportunities for the Kalinago people.

He identified some new projects that will be implemented in the Kalinago Territory in the 2019/2020 financial year.

“The projects to be implemented in the Kalinago Territory in the 2019/20 financial year will include: The continuation of the small business development fund which will provide grants to new and existing small businesses, the establishment of an agricultural centre to provide the farmers and households with seedlings and other planting materials, the development of the craft industry through training, marketing and financial support to those engaged in its production,” according to the prime minister.

He added that the rehabilitation of several community roads and construction of 100 new climate resilient homes will also be undertaken.

Our own kalinago people brought and allowed party colors to interfere in our past Kalinago Chief election. They know who they are and they know what they have done. National politics have no place in indigenous peoples elections. I am so disappointed in key people I saw as good examples in Kalinago society. Now all you need to take the time and help the young man to articulate himself, provide him with some level of diplomacy and stop forcing him to be loyal to the DLP party. His loyalty need to be to the Kalinago people. He should not see party colors but when you all ( his campaign team) put him in power in the territory I guess now you all want to ensure you keep him in his place. Free the man up so he can at least try to do right by the Kalinago Territory. His not ready for the position but what can we do. No one seems to care that this election was not fair. No one seem to be doing something about how key DLP people interfered in Kalinago elections.

So did the Opposition leader. He congratulated the young man. Lennox said something very pertinent in that if the UWP wins, he will seek to have the Kalinago Chief represent the kalinago people and territory and not have a parl rep as it seems that the parl rep has more power than the chief, which should never be. The chief will remain in office for the allotted time period regardless of if government changes or not, he/she will be representing his/her people in parliament, not any parl rep. Lennox also spoke about a number of infractions that the DLP made where the indigenous people of DOmincia are concerned.

Congrats Chief. Remember to always put the welfare of your people first, before any political party. Put your people first, and you’ll do just fine.

The truth is this young man wasn’t voted in based on ability. He was voted in because BATACA people thought it was time for a Chief to be from BATACA. He was voted in because key political people were on his team telling people are vote for Lorenzo is a vote for a particular party. Your votes were based on family and party loyalty. Your campaign team made this election about party politics. The majority of Kalinago people is very much aware of the truth of how this election was won. Now your chief…now what…you going to wait now for your campaign team to tell you what direction to take, just like they told you not to take part in the debate. This was a time for us the Kalinago people to uplift the office of Chief, we actually believed we had a chance for real change, not just a another puppet to a political party. If this young man was voted Prime Minister right now would you all have all this faith in his ability? Kalinago Chief is like the Kalinago people Prime Minister.

We agree with Skerrit. Therefore you are saying unlike you, this decent young man will not be engaged in the meddling of FUNDS and resources of the Kalinago Councl and its people. No thievery on this and Skerrit you are no role model to this decent young man.
Lorenzo, please Mr. Chief, no devious behaviour, no Bin Bobol, No Fertilizer Bobol, NO Red Clinic Bobol where our struggling people went to this failed corrupted behaviour for handouts from Skerrit by the so called “Red Clinic”. You see Mr Chief Sanford, Skerrit has stained his name for life and that of our Dominica including the Carib (Kalinago) Territory. Please be guided and transparent and trust your Clerk, members of the Council, the District Development Officer (DDO) and field Officers.

If Skerro think he will win the next election by cheating as sen in Salibia , he has to wheel and come again. This technique will not work for the general elections. NEVER!
I know you and your advisers used this gimmick as a dry run , but we have our measures in place to LOOK OUT for the tricks.

But you don’t know is they that put him in the Chief position. You didn’t hear a vote for Lorenzo is a vote for Labour. They man was not at the debate. He cannot articulate himself. My poor people what have some of us done for the sake of party.

How did these mature adult people allow this to happen, electing an inexperience boy as chief :?: Have the people not learnt from their mistake of having an inexperience boy who has become a one-man corrupt rogue regime holding the office of Prime Minister :?: First of all, he’s not a Kalinago, being born and raised in the Kalinago Territory does not make you a Kalinago! Isn’t his mother a Black African Woman :?: The Kalinago laws should be written in such a way that once you are of mixed ethnic background, you are not allowed to contest for such position. A Kalinago Chief should be of pure Kalinago bloodline.

@KJ…the second part of your contribution is pure “RACIST” and insulting. You actually sound like Donald Trump. Its like black people saying if you are mixed with white then you are not black. We now live in a global village and the purity of ethnicity is a thing of the past and racist in this modern day. Adolf Hitler of Germany killed many people because he wanted a pure German race while he himself was Austrian. The nerve of you and others talking about “pure Kalinago”.

Like the chief, people like me are mixed Kalinago so are you telling us we should not be proud of and claim our Kalinago ancestry? Also, what about all the mixed Kalinagos in Pte. Savanne, Pte. Soufriere , Good Hope, Concorde etc? Your statement is insulting to say the least. Go get educated on issues before you insult others. Long live the Kalinago and ALL its descendants.

I’d like you to define to me who and what makes one a Kalinago :?: Why do you think that a woman is not allowed to bring her male partner/ husband to live in the Kalinago Territory :?: For your information, when a Caucasian/white person has a child with a Black/African, this child is considered Black. Therefore, how could a person of Black/African decent and Kalinago be a Kalinago :?: I am one who believe in purity of ethnic groups without being a racist. However,if I am being a racist, it’s simply a matter of loving my race without hating anyone else!!!

Why don’t you shut the hell up! Is bitter people like you who complain about youth not being positive in their community, but yet still, will not give them fair opportunities to grow and contribute! Age or not having prior experience does not mean he cannot be successful in the position! I am sure he will have people training him and showing him the ropes!! smh

Don’t let Skerrit mamaguy you with more promises. If you truly represent your people, the first item of discussion should be the US$10 Million gift which was given to them by the Government and People of Venezuela, through the Dominica government which has not been accounted for.

lol he will not do that. His loyalist is to a particular party and not the people. How can you ask the people who put you there for thee money.

I wish the young Kalinago Chief every success during his tenure at the top. Everything Skerrit does is meticulously planned to gain political advantageousness, I mean every, every thing. He hasn’t given a definitive account of the US $10 000 000 earmarked for developments in the Kalinago territory, a gift from Venezuela. After twenty (20) years of political dominance by the DLP, the Kalinago territory suffered enormously. Lack of proper housing, roads, economic activities, health, social, entertainment and recreational facilities have deprived these people of a normal and fulfilling life. Don’t be misled by Skerrit’s electioneering tall tales. Shun him.

This is a very interesting development, the first People have elected a young Warrior to lead them into the future, moving forward, he will be the voice and face of the first People, the Warrior is going to need all the help he can get while he continue to learn and grow. The African and Kalinago’ history is forever intertwined, both have experience genoside, ethnic cleansing, slavery and all the divisions that followed. On this Emancipation week we all must wish him the best , also hope that he can become the face of youth discipline which is lacking in all aspects. Tell your Peoples story young Warrior, it’s your time now.

“The Prime Minister said the Government will work with the new Kalinago Chief, and other local community leaders, ….”to continue the efforts at improving the quality of life and expanding the economic opportunities for the Kalinago people.” What!!!??, after 19 years, hypocrite Skerrit. The latter part of Skerrit`s statement is a fake and a lie and it is just to buy and win friends over. Skerrit is not that role model and I will strongly recommend that young people and others stay away from Skerrit and his dirty, unprofessional politics. People we need decent politics, and a trusted government. Boot Skerrit out, he has failed.
Ohhhh My God. What foolish Pride. Skerrit is that opportunist and will use the benefit and circumstance of people to say nice things to attempt to embrace them closer to him and his failed corrupt Skerrit. Skerrit is this an with nice words and to appease you, promise everything to lure and win you over. Carib Chief, abandon Skerrit, he`s not role a role…
