Skerrit urges DLP supporters to embrace ‘new look’ candidates

Skerrit addressing DLP delegates conference

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has called on his party supporters to embrace the new candidates.

He was speaking during the party’s Delegates Conference held in Londonderry on Sunday.

Skerrit announced a new slate of candidates that he describes as the ‘new look’ Labour.

“We have presented to you this evening the fresh faces of change in Dominican politics,” he said. “The other side has little that is fresh and has made no meaningful change.”

He continued, “I appeal to the family of Labour this evening to embrace this fresh group of patriots.”

Describing the new candidates as success stories, Skerrit remarked, “None of them is looking for a job. None of them is seeking economic opportunity.”

He said none of the new comers can be regarded as failures, adding, “These are young, bright Dominicans in whom all can be pleased.”

He also urged the ‘family of Labour’ to unite around this group, “embrace those who are returning to add experience to their slate.”

Among the new comers is Prime Minister Skerrit’s wife, Melissa, whose potential candidacy in the Roseau Central Constituency was the subject of much speculation over the past several weeks. Now her place in the race has been confirmed at the expense of Roseau Central incumbent, Joseph Isaac and hopeful, Robbie Tonge. Isaac has been transferred to Roseau North and Tonge is out.

The other new candidates are Dr Adonis King – St. Joseph, Edward Registe – Grand Bay, Marva Williams – Petite Savanne, Anika Charles – Marigot, Kent Edwards – La Plaine, Cozier Frederick – Carib Territory, Chekira Lockhart – Roseau South, Dr. Irving McIntyre – Roseau Valley, Greta Roberts- Riviere Cyrique, Octavia Alfred – Castle Bruce, Fidel Grant – Wesley.

Skerrit called on supporters to thank and congratulate those who are stepping aside as parliamentary representatives and who shall remain in the service of the people of Dominica in one form or the other.

“This is a glorious day in the history of politics in Dominica,” he stated. “This is a red letter day for the Dominica Labour Party (DLP).”

Firstly, this number of new candidates means that elections are a few months away at minimum as the dust must settle. A few more changes could happen.
Will the 80% of Dominicans who would like a political change feel that this is sufficient or the right change. If the calypso “praise God for Skerritt” has encapsulated the Dominican sentiment.. it means that all the good AND all the bad is Skerritt….alone.
No one can really blame the outgoing candidates as they will most likely not remember them doing anything more than sharing money for the big man.
It will be an interesting election.
My only question is do people view LL as their next pm….. and that my friends is where the cookie may crumble

Who is going to follow L. L. (La Lie; Low Level) The 20 % minority uwp want an educated leader not some one who insulted teachers , fought multiple times in school AND WAS EXPELLED. Who wants a man who shamelessly and bold facely crashed a Heads of Government CARICOM Conference. I wonder which is the biggest sin, this crashing or the blasting of Dominica on CNN. There are other examples of misbehavior but later for that.

“We only see what we want to see; we only hear what we want to hear. Our belief system is just like a mirror that only shows us what we believe.”, Great quote, a quote that I often apply to the media. Assume not that everyone in society understands the science of every aspect of life and the media throughout the decades have capitalized of that fact. The media plays a big role in seeing what we want to see, hearing what we want to hear and is a mirror that manifests perpetuates what we believe. And I say the same to you admin, that you live by this very well. I often look at how you structure your articles and the phrasing of certain stories. The specific quotes of whoever the story is covering that you choose to put in the story. A story that you would rerun under different headings in intervals, the types of stories you post. Hey, media outlets do what they do for their own purpose but I am just saying that yours is apparent.

“Skerrit urges DLP supporters to embrace ‘new look’ candidates”. Dominicans, please be aware, that there is nothing new to expect from failed Skerrit but continued disaster and deterioration of our economy and our beloved island paradise. Skerrit is a dangerous PM in office with no hint, let alone the qualification to be a Prime Minister (Odd Minister) of any island, let alone to be chair of a village council. This man has demonstrated openly his weakness and lack of Knowledge and decorum to be head of a country much less to be Chairman of a Village Council let alone chair of a Board. Look at where we are in Domininca, under-developed, poor dilapidated roads, no production of produce and agricultural products. All that has been killed and pushed aside to travel the world to meet ugly nefarious people selling our diplomatic passports to them and other funny looking people who travel to Canada with our passport, now the Canadians had enough and impose visa restrictions on us. Skerrit…

So Skerrit doesn’t respect the constitution of the DLP? Shouldn’t each of these new candidates have been selected and voted in by the constituency delegates? And wasn’t this supposed to be a delegates conference? Wasn’t he supposed to have been voted back in as leader, even if he had gone in unopposed? Who is the DLP party executive?

So many questions, but to point to the obvious- Skerrit is the Dictator of the DLP. It’s not his personal party or property. Vote this guy back in, along with his wife then now he will boldface act like Dominica is his backyard.

So PM you really think that Dominicans are dumb therefore believe that big fat lie about the candidates being financially solid n are not looking for a job. First of alll, they must have come from millionaire families ,which is highly impossible. You need to let your supporters how much you paid each candidate and was it in cash only. Its very strange that people who couldn’t buy a good pair of shoes nor eat a good meal at the city restaurants are now super rich within your organization. They all drive expensive cars , own houses, businesses and so forth. Honestly, not one of those so called candidates deserve to run. As for you, Ian , blackmore n mr Reggie you alll are injury prone in the election race. Mr Skerritt, you can’t campaign in 21 constituencies. You call those new red shirt folks competent yet they can’t even speak properly….. and your madam, how could Dominicans sit there n allow her to even run for a seat… Mr Skeritt you making history alll da time,..

After pondering on all this, i have a few questions and maybe there are lawyers out there who can answer. Or DNO can do a piece to educate the public. Is the political party structure defined in the constitution? What rules govern how a party biology is set up? Example: i knew party delegates pick representatives for constituency. If that is in constitution it may have been to ensure a democratic process. If the way we select candidates are outline by the constitution i dont remember when it was changed in parliament to allow the PM to hand pick who he wants. If the rules of how representatives are selected are outlined in the constitution i think we may have a breach of law and an assult on democracy and the constitution. If however the rules for party representation depends on individual party rules then its perfectly fine but a problem and needs to be abolished because it is not a Democratic process. I would like to see a legal response. Admin can you guys share any light?

Why such massive changes… is that a lack of leadership?
Did the Party President ..minister of education of la plaine fail skerritt or skerritt usurped and took his oxygen in his constituency as he did with all the constituencies..playing PAPA ,instead of Leader of a party …the man wanted to behave like a dictator or US president over all constituencies…..ego Tripping as a supremo ….we need to hear from the real doctors Darroux and Darroux etc..Skerritt who barely has a first degree seem hell bent on being a doctor as well without working his way through universities like the Real Doctors in his cabinet…showing no respect for honest real work in academia….

“None of them is looking for a job. None of them is seeking economic opportunity,” he remarked. He said none of the new comers can be regarded as failures”.

As an employer I will never hire someone that is not looking for a job because if he/ she is not looking for a job there is no way they will want to work to ensure the business grows. I rather someone that is looking for a work because they will understand that in other to keep their job they will have to help develop the business and in that case Dominica. Another thing is, if they are not looking for a work how in the world world will they care to work? Well Skerrit is on record saying “Dominicans don’t want to work”. So he must have been forced to hire people that must have told him they don’t want to work.

If they don’t want to work they must be there for economic opportunities. So Skerrit, how much did you pay them to run? What’s the package?

Skerrit are you implying that those 13 you rejected are FAILURES?

Skerrit know what he saying?? Apparently he didn’t vett the young blood from Marigot. I just wish to point out that this is the type of disregard and carelessness with which Skerrit has ruled for the last nearly 15 years. No wonder all of those dodgy diplomats were caught with Dominican passports or that Ross has decided to abandon millions of dollars investments in infrastructure after 40 years and painstakingly moved to a more expensive country..
Skerrit can only fool those people who don’t take even 5 seconds to think critically of the mess he has made of Dominica over the years. But this may be the opportunity that Dominicans have been waiting for, to be finally so dreadfully disregarded and disgraced, to become upset and react by voting that corrupt DLP out…

In the fresh look labour we have 4 public officers on that sheet. I wonder if they have resigned or retired from their jobs. As public officers they cannot even take part in political activities based on the Act. Secondly, public officers cannot hold public office, therefore declaring them is also against the law. But I guess not law no constitution cannot prevent our prime minister from dong anything. So my suggestion would be for the Head of State, HE the President to step in and give some advise (he is also very knowledgeable of the Public Service Rules and regulations. The head of the public service, steve ferrol and the chief presonnel officer should also caution public officers, and finally the chairman of the commission and the Public and Teachers Unions should step in.

In the first place Mr. English major, “none of them is looking for a job!

“Them” means you are talking in plural, therefore I think you should have said none of them are looking for job.

Now your idea that all are successful, none are failures; that depends on how we measure success. One can be successful educationally, have a job getting a small pay cheque  living from pay cheque to pay cheque; however, that could not be considered successful!

Take for instance the Wesley contender, he is an accountant by profession, he is the accountant as far as I was told for your failed geothermal so called electrical generating plant. Now I am not piking at this guy; for obvious reasons, nevertheless one cannot overwhelmingly count him being an accountant successful.

He has a job in Government; that’s it!

No matter how hard the Spin Doctor tries to put a positive twist to his party’ political woes, any body, with even a modicum of common sense, knows the DLP is in HUGE TROUBLE. Dictatorial rule doesn’t usually end well. The electorate should resoundingly reject Skerrit and his many neophytes at the upcoming election for his nineteen years to abject failure. -Decide what the name of your party is – Team Dominica or UWP.
-Decide whether we can expect you to stand on principle, so that when someone is charged with sexual misconduct with a minor and you throw him out on the pretext of caring for the minors he will not be reabsorbed with an even greater public profile.
-Decide if Anika Charles is tainted by association with her husband, whether you are not tainted by appearing brazenly in public alongside an alleged wife abuser obviously defending his alleged behaviour.
-while you are at it, tell us how you plan to govern the country, complete with sources of revenue and development plans for the sectors which will be better than what exists.
      – Give us a firm position not the flip-flopping, on Dominicans living overseas.
-Reassure us that your action/inaction after Maria is not what is expected if you win.

Damn Right, no one takes note of this blind clown of Skerrit. Your views are ill advised and be reminded that Skerrit Must Go. Skerrit will Go. Skerrit has to get lost and get out of our Domininca states business. Leadership has failed within this Corrupt Labour government. No wonder the leader has failed. His political acolytes in Cabinet has also failed as they are fearful to address Skerrit of his failure and high incompetence.
Dominica is a failed state with a highly corrupt, incompetent, political and developmentally incompetent, immature 18 ministers. Skerrit must go, he has ruined our nature isle enough. Too many blind people follows this political incompetent PM clown who serves, unfortunately as Prime (Odd) Minister.
Skerrit must Go. Get Lost. Get Out…Go away. You have a big failure and you should take your failed 19 useless ministers with you and go repent for the damage you all have done to our people and to our Dominica. Skerit Go and do not come back. Shame on you -…

Wow 51 “dislike” about some one that is not “taken ” seriously and so many negatives. Because I once made a joke about my imagined political candidacy. Because you cant find any dirt on me you revert to name calling. Gather more names because at election time I will be campaigning for the DLP. I will be taking my cue from your dirty politics. I am learning with bullies like you all, one has to fight fire with fire. I have learnt that when you stand up to bullies and fight back they lose their will to attack , because in real life they are really weak cowards who like to pic on women and children.
Just see how they picked on the Speaker, Mammie ,Mis Charles ( Marigot ) and the PM’s kids. …………………………………….. …………. So we will be talking. On the day our awesome PM, the visionary, declares election day…all hell will break loose on you opposition gangbangers. No hold bars. You all will regret what you all now started.

Skerrit announced a new slate of candidates that he describes as the ‘new look’ Labour. It has been Neo DLP since 2004 after Pierro & Rosie passed even after the no choice union with the gang of 5 DFPites .
Now Neo _DLP has once again morphed into a 9 female inclusion a stunt that might be having lots of females fooled and filled too( laughter I can assume!)
When I look at it I have to remark that the inclusion of the ladies is identical to the shell companies that that peeps like sr Counsels are opening up in the middle east etc.
are these candidates or shells. Where is Lennox Honeyman to comment about the new candidates. In 1995 he assumed the candidate who would maybe Cuban trained individuals. why hasn’t he comment on the shell ladies and gentle men. Gentle to the point of easy manipulation by Kaka doc

May the forces of success be with you all. This is really a Red Letter Day in the history of Dominica. The Dr Dr Rt Hon Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is leading in the right direction. Joseph John, be advised that: “The Ductored Wrong Dishonourable Odd Minister Skerrit is leading the worse and most corrupt government to the wrong direction.” That is where we stand with this failed Skerrit. To be on radio talking a lie like a liked man is “Fake news”. That Tramp, Trump would be advised to guide failed Skerrit.
Skerrit is not a role model and in no position to give anyone advice on decency in politics and decency in public. Skerrit be advised and remember: “Go to Hell, Go to Hell, None of our Damn Business. You failure has been “Damning” and “Disgusting. You are the beacon of corruption, failure and nepotism in our Dominica. So Skerrit we are focus and we want you out of our Public Service. We need to go. Your corrupt party language has been disgusting and nuisance and go listen to your Austrie where he says about “Cow meat” to a UWP female candidate. There must have been some element of truth to the rumors for such an immediate withdrawal. I now believe that the ‘Supreme One’ ordered her to withdraw due to the statement that was proffered. Given that the only thing skerrit could say about his wife is how many things she give people and school feeding – thats her accomplishments…I hope all the beneficiaries realise that all the time they were thing she cared is build she was building her platform.

I would be good at setting up a school feeding program to occasionally give children at the local “upper class” school if I had access to other people passport money. I would also be excellent at dressing up and going around give little care packets, school bags and baby toiletries, providing that i was using other people money.

“None of them is looking for a job. None of them is seeking economic opportunity,” (Roosevelt Skerrit).

you know I am not an English Major like Roosevelt, who claimed graduated with a degree in English, I did not major in English, but in my pursuit to achieve in order to graduate, I had to take English as one of my prerequisite before I move onto my actual major which Electronics, and Electrical Engineering.

I graduated with a “B” in English, when I majored in Health Science, I had to do another semester taking English again to improve, went from a B to be plus nevertheless, I passed the class, continued until I decided to drop out of Med-school.

That in the quote above I would like some English Major to correct me if am wrong to say Roosevelt English vocabulary is wrapped for one the say taught English in Dominica.

Mr. Fox what grade level did accomplish in School. In what grade level of class did you graduate?

I was once told that Dominica English is different, in that English words in Dominica does not mean the same as elsewhere. Maybe you are one of the who believe that lie!

How can someone speaking about a series of people (more than, more than three) and is expressing himself as if he is talking in the singular term. “None of them is?”

Guy go and get an education in English before you humiliate yourself trying to contend with one who’s  better educated than you!

My scholastic, and academic education; acquired from college, and university, hence  not Google and a smart phone! Know you place because you are beneath me educationally, and  intellectually!

      • Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
        February 18, 2019

I am not a linguistics major, but how do you define them?

“Them” cannot be singular, since them is more than one, so that means he is still wrong, his English grammar stinks. It is the same he said Obama must do something regarding Cuba before he demit office.

The term demit implies a person withdrawing from something: i.e the candidate who withdraw as the Marigot candidate has demit. Obama was ending his tenure as president of the United States, therefore he couldn’t have demit his office office!

      • February 19, 2019

None of them is, is correct. Francisco, you are no more than a fool. None of the children is playing and not, none of the children are playing. Francisco, you bought your degrees some where else. Self-praise is no recommendation, my friend.

Francisco, Could you tell me where about did you get your degree certificate or certificates? I need to have a couple technically speaking 2 as we all know in the US one can buy anything they wanted.

      • Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
        February 19, 2019

Man bite dog, don’t worry about where I got my degrees, all you need to know is that I began pursuing my education in the city of Harlow in Essex England at a community college, and finished in the United States. your only concern should be Francisco is college and University Educated, whereas you are not.

        Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaah!

Many have challenge my educational background in the passed, I am not obligated to disclosed which institutions I attended, just keep on reading me yourself and others, judge me from my conversations the topics I respond to; pose a question and see how I respond, from that you might discover if I am college and university educated or not!

If I said I am Dr. such  with a Ph.D there would be no question ask right? Well, I am not Dr. anything, but I have a BS in Electronic & Electrical Engineering respectively, an AS also in Electronics, compounded with an AA in the Liberal Arts. I also majored in Health Science.

        That’s all!

      • Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
        February 20, 2019

Here you are calling me a fool when I can tell you  the word “them” is normally singular, however it is a normal word with plural and singular form!

If  there are more than one people sitting at a table and you gave something to someone to take to “than” meaning more than one person: In my case I would say take this to them; hence them could not be used in the singular, but must be in the plural sense! Fact is Roosevelt spoke about more one person, therefore “is ” must be incorrect. If you want to get technical and believe I am dumb; watch this!

        .them singular or plural
        .any is singular or plural
        .is it singular or plural
        .all is singular or plural
        .their plural or singular
        .its singular or plural
        .most singular or plural
        .everyone is singular or plural

      • Joseph John
        February 20, 2019

‘ Of them’ is an adjective . None is like zero which is not a plural subject and which is followed by the verb to be “is” . Two or more is plural. So two of them “are” . But none of them or one of them is singular with a verb “IS”. “So none of them is, ” is grammatically correct.

You have quoted Skerrit verbatim. Those words precisely describe the Skerrit-led administration for the last fifteen (15) years. These ministers of government ,soon to be former ministers, including Skerrit, are nothing more than economic opportunists. They have done a hatchet job on the country’s finances. After these bandits demit office there should be a thorough forensic audit of the State’s finances for the last nineteen years

        ???????
i totally agree with you ”monies cannot leave the treasury so”
You see , first the monies have to come in , be deposited , placed , stored in the treasury for it to then leave , but if it is first diverted before reaching the treasury,
if it is sifted before even reaching the treasury, then of course there will be no audit , no account ( yet to be traced) . so i make you right indeed . But hear that, these days all monies that are not buried in de back garden can ,and will be traced .
money always leaves tracks especially when its other peoples monies being syphoned , albeit recovery of all may be impossible .
