The 2011 CBN/WINLOTT Windward Islands Schools Games ended on Sunday, July 31, 2011 with a closing & prize giving ceremony held at the Cruise Ship Berth in Cabrits, Portsmouth.
After nine (9) days of intense competition in track and field, basketball, football, netball and volleyball, Grenada emerged as the Champion Team with 33 points, Dominica came 2nd with 31 points, St. Vincent & the Grenadines came 3rd with 27 points while St. Lucia with 21 points was in the last position.
The Games saw a few but significant changes in its format in 2011 to include:
• increase in the number of teams members (a maximum of seventy 70 persons) per country,
• the utilization of the minimum number needed to have “pure teams”,
• the use of two (2) venues for the housing of the teams due to the increase in numbers and
• the attempt to decentralize the Games.
The Games began with a grand opening ceremony at the Windsor Parks Sports Stadium on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at 10:00 am under the distinguished patronage of the President of Dominica His Excellency Dr. Nicholas J.O. Liverpool and Mrs. Liverpool. Speeches came from Mr. Trevor Shillingford, Sports Coordinator; Hon. Norris Prevost, Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau Central Constituency; Mr. Murray Bullock, Chairman of WINLOTT; Mr. Stuart Gooding, Managing Director of CBN; Hon. Patrick Simmons, Minister of Youth Empowerment and Sports – Grenada; Hon. Kevler Darroux, Acting Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports – Dominica and representatives of the Sports Ministries of St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Performances came from the Hebrew Boys, Mr. Keyshon Florent and reigning Calypso Monarch – Miss Tasha Peltier. The Games were declared opened by Hon. Ambrose George who was the representative of the Prime Minister.
The track and field event followed the opening ceremony and for the first time, football was played on the same night of the opening ceremony – St. Lucia took on Dominica at 6:00 pm.
The Sports Division wishes to thank CBN, WINLOTT and the Government of Dominica for their invaluable contributions in making the 2011 WISG a success.

I enjoyed the athletics
I agree totally with the previous comment. I wonder how many people even knew that these games were being held in Dominica. Who knows maybe with more media coverage, there would have been support and Dominica’s home court advantage would have given them the edge.
THAT’S JUST TO SHOW HOW SPORTS IS NOT GIVEN THE RECOGNITION IT DESERVES. ALMOST 2 WEEKS AFTER THE TOURNAMENT HAS ENDED IT IS PUBLISHED ON DNO. THE INTER SCHOOLS GAMES WERE NOT EVEN HIGHLIGHTED IN THE OTHER MEDIA PER SAY. SHAME ON DOMINICA AND THE MEDIA
