9-year-old of Dominican parents creates waves in the world of soccer

Jaffi Elexis (left) with World Freestyle Champion John Fanworth

He may be nine years old but Jaffi Alexis is already creating waves in the world of soccer. Born in the US of Dominican parents, Jaffi has been doing so well in the sport that he has been selected as a marquee player representing the US in the prestigious Mundialito Tournament in Portugal in April.

He was personally invited to the tryouts by Phil Brogan, Former Manchester United Youth Academy coach who saw him playing in a game in the US.

The Mundialito Tournament is essentially kid’s world cup soccer.

Jaffi is the offspring of an old rivalry between Santos and Cocoa Town soccer clubs of Portsmouth. He is the son of Julien “Concord” Alexis, a legendary soccer player who played for Santos and his mum, Aldith Aaron Alexis from the Cocoa Town area of Portsmouth, is a hardcore fan who also came from a family of talented sportsmen and sportswomen.

Jaffi started playing soccer at the tender age of two and has impressed everyone who has seen him play. He has been playing and training with Brazilian Soccer Schools/Bronxville (BSS) for the past two years and his coach Horace McFarlane said he embodies what hard work is all about. “I believe that Jaffi will continue to work hard with the hope of achieving his dream of becoming a professional soccer player,” he said.

Jaffi does not only play with BSS but practices with team in New York and New Jersey. He and his father are constantly on the field practicing.

As recently as last year Jaffi and his father attended the Brazilian Soccer School coaching course in Leeds, England, and he was so excited by what he saw that wanted to try the new moves with his new friends.

In the summer of 2011 Jaffi will travel to Frankfurt, Germany to train for one week with the prestigious Eintracht Fußballschule.

Jaffi is a soccer player everyone should definitely keep an eye on.

Dont bother to say that Aldith is from cocoa town cause i clearly remember santos playing cocoa town and she was cheering for concord. lol.. But seriously speaking yea goes something to be proud of… not just Portsmouth or Dominica but for the USA and the entire caribbean. Our prayers and suport are needed. May he continue to excel and become a reknown figure in field of foot ball. To J and AL keep up the great work and continue to make us proud.

Congratulations to Jaffi hope he keeps doing his best and looking forward always. Only in Dominica that young people’s talents don’t bring them anywhere and it’s a shame.

At the mundialito the big name soccer clubs have scouts looking at the talents. According to the article Jaffi’s coach is a former Manchester United youth coach. This guy rolled with the big guns men. Manhchester United is the Richest sports franchise in the wolrd. That kidd has great opportunities ahead of him. I hope he can get into one of those soccer academies in Europe. I would love to go to one of those premier games and claim Jaffi for dominica. After all it seem like his talent did not come from America but started in dominica.

      • U stupid?
        April 18, 2011

If he doesn’t get an education and he recieves some kind of injury and he is not able to play anymore what else is he going to do. Allu just think that playing a sport is all that matter he needs the smarts to be able to take control of his money so ppl will not steal from him and he has no clue what is going on.

Way to go. Julian and Aldith it is good that your son is following in the footsteps of his father. I am proud to know that Dominicans are excelling in sports and keep the Island of Dominica on the map. Last week was the girl of Dominican parents from Woodfordhill and Wesley who is doing good in basketball. As the article stated that the rivalry was between Santos and Coco town but he forget to mention that Joba City was also part of the rivalry in football in Portsmouth. Way to go Jaffi and all the best to you and your family.

    • Joba city
      April 18, 2011

Joba City and Cocoa town was the Mecca of football but the Cocoa Town Santos Rivalry was huge.
If guys like concord and Moe , Bernard , Trevor , quart – had these guys been exposed to opportunities in those days . No telling where these guys could have gone.
Little Jaffi we are behind you and when you hit the Pros we will be flying the Dominica flage together with the US flag. Congratulations to the family.
