Cricket lovers and Windies fans in Dominica will once again be treated to another Test Match in Dominica and local authorities say all is in place for the games.

The home team is expected to take on Zimbabwe at Windsor Park Sports Stadium on March 20th-24th, 2013, in one of two Tests scheduled for the 2013 international home series.

Speaking at a press launch of the Test on Friday, Marketing Liaison, Sobers Esprit said that events such as these are important in order to sensitize people about the joy of cricket and to position the Windsor Park Sports Stadium and Dominica as a premier cricketing centre in the Caribbean.

“It is important for us to ensure that Dominica retains its status as an international venue for cricket in the Caribbean and promote the many diversities in Dominica both as a cricketing venue and a tourist destination,” he said.

He encouraged the public to come out in large numbers to support the event.

Tickets for the Test will go on sale within the next two weeks. Esprit said persons 60 years and over and students 16 years and under accompanied by a paying adult will be allowed free entry. He added that tickets are limited and thus urged everyone to get their tickets early.

Season tickets for the match will cost EC $80 while day 1 and day 2 of the match will be EC$20.00. Day 3 and day 4 will cost $25.00. If the match continues until day 5, a special announcement regarding the cost will be made.

Meanwhile President of the Dominica Cricket Association, Emmanuel Nanthan, pointed out that Dominica has rapidly become a favourite venue for cricket because of its unique carnival cricket spirit.

“we need to continue to showcase Dominica as the best venue but we can only do so if we as Dominicans tie hands across the country from north to south, east to west and taking the center to and bringing all Dominicans to the Windsor Park,” he said.

Event Manager Gifford Walsh stated that the key concerns of fans have been addressed and he is looking forward to a successful event in March.

International Cricket Matches have been played in Dominica since 2009 at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium. It has been the venue for West Indies Cricket team matches against Bangladesh in 2009, South Africa in 2010, India in 2011 and Australlia in 2012.

This is great and I would love to be there. Are the organiser’s going to deal with they way they
sell tickets though ?? I have no wish to be trampled to death thank you very much. It’s not rocket science to organise one way in and one way out, with an orderly queue.

An opportunity for the various festival committees to showcase our talent: calypsonians, queen show winners, bands, steel pan music, national wear – should all be on display. Keep the carnival spirit alive all year round.

Good luck with the planning and organisation and execution of the game. Please encourage the TV production company, covering the game to showcase D/ca and it key sights more – often they don’t do that and what a miss opportunity to market the best og D/ca globally.

I would like somebody to tell me why was Billy Doctrove not a pivotal person at this media lunch? Billy is much more high profile that any of the speakers and he would pack a more meaningful punch that any of the speakers. It is high time that we use Billy’s expertise and Distinguished International image to promote not only cricket but other Tourism Products to Dominica’s benefit

@da renovations – Were you on an all expense paid vacation to the planet Neptune from 1995 – 2000?

Wasn’t the construction of a stadium by the UWP already going on when the Labour Party unfortunately came into power in 2000?

        February 25, 2013

here the kind of nonsense…something had always been started under the UWP and never finish..

I even hear they had the planning for the Zimbabwe game already

@IPO (Below) – Are you deliberately pretending to be ignorant and unaware of the facts?

When Dominica’s most backward thinking government ie the DLP unfortunately came into power, they met work already going on the construction of the Windsor Park stadium. They proceeded to stop that project and redo the entire thing.

When Dominica’s most backward thinking government ie the DLP unfortunately came into power, they met serious plans and the embryonic stages of the construction of an international airport already in progress but they proceeded to abort the project and rather waste $100 millions dollars on “upgrading” Melville Hall – a $100 million dollar upgrade to accommodate apparently “10-20 seater toy planes that haven’t got toilet” – while other right thinking Caribbean countries looking to accommodate larger 100+ seater jumbo jets.

You ain’t see something wrong with some of all you in dat country dere………………

While I am happy for this, I’ve got to ask – what about the ODI’s? T20’s? These are far more exciting and entertaining than the test series – we need that! nou pa moun den

    • Kamchatka
      February 25, 2013

@warma – Test matches gives a country the most mileage in terms of economic benefits since the visiting teams, supporters, officials, foreign media etc remain on island for much longer, greater international TV exposure for the country etc.

And where did you get the idea that test matches are not exciting? Apparently you don’t follow cricket very closely. Test match cricket and ODIs are the real forms of cricket. T20s aka lick-it-cricket is exciting but can never really satisfy the appetite of any true cricket fan.
