BASKETBALL: United Insurance Sharks and Gloria Shillingford Raptors shine

Friday night saw the beginning of the LIME National Basketball League playoffs with two games at the Lindo Park, resulting in surprisingly easy victories for United Insurance Sharks and Gloria Shillingford Raptors in front of a large crowd with both Minister Gloria Shillingford and Senator Bazil supporting the Wesley team present.

Game 1 – Gloria Shilligford Raptors 58 points to DCP Original X-Men 40 points; top-scoring for Raptors were B. Sanderson 25 pts  and Devon Barton 13 pts, while for X-Men Daryl Thomas 11pts and Renick Guiste 10 pts. Gloria Shillingford Raptors will meet the Juggernauts of Salisbury in the first of two semi finals starting on Wednesday next week.

Game 2 – The defending champions Blazers were expected to win easily with the arrival of former national team player Donny Robinson to strengthen the team but were surprise by a resolute United Insurance Sharks team of Scotshead, beating them 57 points to 48 points. Top-scoring for Sharks were Neverson Jnobaptiste 20 pts and Royce Ceasar 11, while for Blazers Ricky Toussaint had 14 pts and Darius Nichols 12 pts. The loss of the Blazers mean there will be a new national champion in  basketball this year. The United Insurance Sharks will meet the regular season champion the Glam X-Men in the first of two semi finals in the premier league on Wednesday next week.

Games will continue tonight (Saturday) weather permitting at the Lindo Park from 7.00pm.

Game 1 – Solo Auto Starz verses Kelvar Darroux Hurricanes

Game 2 – Marigot Pakya Sonics verses Lime Pros.
