Beach volleyball competition set for Sunday, Oct. 10

The Dominica Amateur Volleyball Association will be holding a beach volleyball competition at Layou Beach on Sunday, 10th October, to select eight players who will represent Dominica in the first round of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach Volleyball World Championships to be held in Antigua from November 18th to 21st.

Eight member federations affiliated to the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) are expected to participate in the regional competition with each country fielding two male and two female teams.

The FIVB and the NORCECA Confederation will be meeting the airfare, accommodation and meal expenses of all players at the Antigua event.

In addition, the players selected to represent Dominica will receive a number of prizes, including mobile phones, Monster drinks and bags as well as T-shirts and beach volleyballs.

The Dominica Amateur Volleyball Association will be making a presentation of volleyball equipment and rakes to the Layou Improvement Committee, in an effort to promote beach volleyball in that community.

Players interested in participating in the competition are requested to contact the DAVA Beach Volleyball Coordinator, John “Bristol” Lawrence (614-7561 or 265-9672) to register for the event. A registration fee of ten dollars ($10.00) per player will be charged.

Local sponsors of the activity are: LIME, representative of Monster beverages, Signman and Dominica Brewery & Beverages Ltd.

The World Championships will serve as a qualifying event for the London 2012 Olympic Beach Volleyball event.
