Bishoo wants to star on homesoil

Bishoo

Georgetown, Guyana – West Indies leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo has had a great time of it so far in the Digicel Series against Pakistan.

He has bowled with superb control and troubled the Pakistan batsmen with turn and bounce. So far he has taken 10 wickets – the most in the Digicel ODI series – for 163 runs.

He was also brilliant in the Digicel T20 International with 4-17, for which he won the Man-of-the-Match award. The 25-year-old will play before his home crowd in Guyana for the first time in the West Indies shirt on Thursday when the two teams meet in the fifth and final Digicel One Day International. He said he is eagerly looking forward to the match.

First ball in the fifth Digicel ODI at the Guyana National Stadium is 9.30 am (8.30 am Jamaica Time).

“I am really excited about playing for the West Indies in my own country for the first time. For me personally, it will be a good way to end the ODI series.  There’s no place like home, and my mother will be there. This will be her first time seeing me play for the West Indies,” the Windies Number 70 said.

“I don’t have any brothers or sisters, and my dad passed away when I was only eight years old so it is just me and her. I know she is so proud of me and it will be really special for her to see me play at home.”

He is a confident young man and has fitted in really well in the team set-up. He is fully aware of what he wants to achieve and is prepared to work hard to achieve it.

“I have heard that the commentators are saying that I show no fear and that I am not afraid to bowl to anyone. That’s true. I’m not. I believe in myself 100 percent. I stick to the basics, and go out there and do what I do best.  I’ve been playing cricket since I was 11 and the secret is simple: never stop training. The way I look at it, there are no holidays in cricket. I never stop training… rain or shine, I’m playing cricket.”

West Indies Squad: Darren Sammy (Captain), Dwayne Bravo (Vice Captain), Lendl Simmons, Kirk Edwards, Darren Bravo, Marlon Samuels, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Carlton Baugh (wicketkeeper), Anthony Martin, Andre Rusell, Kemar Roach, Devendra Bishoo, Ravi Rampaul.
