The Dominica Cricket Association (DCA), in collaboration with the Government of Dominica, will begin a cricket academy for 17 young cricketers around the country on the 1st of October 2014.
Speaking to the boys and their parents on Sunday, president of the Dominica Cricket Association, Emmanuel Nanthan, said it is very important that the parents play a major part in the boys training.
He noted that the boys will not only be training to play cricket but they will develop as young men and will play in the division one cricket competition as a unit, next year.
The boys will be attending sessions from 5.00 pm on Fridays and will return to their homes on Sunday at 5 pm.
Dominica and Windward Islands player, Liam Sebastien, has been appointed director of the academy.
The participants will be coached by various coaches around the island as no full time coach has as yet been appointed.
The meeting was attended by DCA president Emmanuel Nanthan, secretary David Johnson and Ag. second vice president Charles Walters and most of the boys’ parents.
Wish Dominica great success – about time they take part in regional and international sports.
Wanted to make some comments, but I have no idea of the ages of these 17 young men. Wish the journalist was a bit more thorough. Does anyone know when they will commence the ‘Cricket Academy for Girls? Remember the West Indies ladies have been doing better than our men in cricket over the years. Keep them in mind . Do not allow them to get demotivated.
Great. Let’s get some work and some results…
I see it had to take Glen Joseph and the staz cricket academy to wake those guys up. I have nothing against Liam Sebastien but how you appoint him director of a cricket academy when the man should not even be on a cricket field. Cricket will go nowhere in Dominica if you continue to let the same set of people run the show. I hope something good comes out of this but with past experience i can tell the outcome. Dominica have way to many talented kids for us to be so far back in cricket.
Good move but no consideration for persons who attend service on Saturdays or even Sunday mornings. Why not regular weekday afternoon trainings?
Excellent idea ! the key will be funding. Good luck !
Great …finally
Its a good thing but what about the others all should get a chance
My boy is at church on Sunday 9 to 1:30 no cricket for him?
It should be a association for all young boys who are interested
Too many paro on the street
But i like it
Great move DCA…long overdue if i may add! Which your guys success!
I do hope that it includes, speaking in public, dress code, etiquette and all the other things that being in the public requires, so that they are well rounded players and we don’t see whats happening in the NFL happening to our boys when they are out there…Sports is NOT all!
yes is one set
Great initiative. Positive
one word.terrific!
Congrats gentlemen, this is the way to go. Best choice as Director, I support the appointment of Liam and also congratulate the boys chosen to be part of this great initiative. Its the beginning of better things to happen in Cricket in Dominica/ Big Up Mano.
